As a Sonar Pro 8.5 user but about to go to X1 Expanded (as I got the free upgrade ages ago but also bought X2 while it was cheap, to stay in the upgrade path), is this a no brainer or a waste of money at what seems a steal at $59?

I know loads of producers used to swear by the Renaissance series but are these better than the standard plugs that now come with the X-Pro series of Sonar?

I'm asking because I've been debating all weekend and the offer is about to run out and I don't have time to try before I buy?

What do you think?

I'm very happy with my Waves plugs. I looked at the same package and was really tempted but I have need of only a couple of the plugs in that package. For the money, it's tough to beat that deal if you need the plugs.

Thanks John for your input.

Well, the thing is that the Waves EQ seems to have a feature which allows you to specify how steep you want your EQ curve whereas the one in 8.5 doesn't.  Also it has some vintage settings which apparently do make a difference, again unlike the standard EQ in 8.5.  According to others, they say it's a gem!

Then there's the multitap delay which I can't seem to achieve a decent multitap with the Sonitus delay in Sonar (or one that sounds just like my hardware anyway)!  The Waves one appears to have the settings I need but without trying, I can't know for sure and I've also not seen any posts about it, hence my questions.

As for the compressors, obviously 8.5 Pro came with a great vocal and drum compressor but I'm not convinced by the Sonitus one for general usage.  The Waves one (according to others) for the vocal and general compressor work really well and you can achieve fantastic results quickly without too much fiddling.  Compressors aren't my strongest area I will admit!

How do you find they compare to what's in the box with Sonar?

I got the Musicians 2 bundle about a year or so ago. I still use several of those plugins. I think the price is very good for what you get.

I bought it when it was on offer a while ago, I find the plugs very usable - and you can can also get the renaissance bass plug free!!

How about for $41.30 at Everyplugin?

Wow!  Shame as I'd already bought it by the time you posted that.  However, I've noted that URL for future reference, so thanks.

I wonder though if I'd have had to pay UK tax on top of that price as the Waves price was all in?

Thanks guys for your input - I also got the RBass plug-in for free so quite happy with the overall bundle.  I'm also happy that it doesn't use that iLok dongle anymore as software using that method of protection puts me off, especially after that incident where loads of users got their software locked out after an update!
