I've sent it back Beagle, build quality was the worst I have ever seen in a synth...shocking

Funny you should say that. I was trying out the Roland V-synth GT the other week and whilst I liked the sounds I thought the sliders were very flimsy for something in that price range. Very disappointing, but probably just as well 'cos I probably would have lusted after it otherwise.

Whilst the GT is a very nice sounding board, and is (other than the feel of the sliders...I mean) of high quality (apart from aftertouch...Roland...aftertouch...let's not go there!) it fills a very niche zone and I felt that £2600 of synth not contributing much to my music was a bit of a waste so I traded it in.

The GT oozes quality in the keybed, the buttons and knobs, it is solid.

I thought the Kronos would take centre stage and it did sound wise but I can't put up with a rattling creaking board...the keys felt nice but it made so much mechanical noise it was off-putting.

So now I'm leaving centre stage to my softsynths ( see sig ) and I want a board with competent sounds but above all great keybed action.

the Virus has a Fatar action... very nice.. you could always trade up from the Snow to a TI 61?

that is shocking!  I haven't ever had one, but assumed they were solidly built.
I have to echo Paulo's experience with Roland.  They have great sounds, but some of the build seems second rate - like they were trying to save too much money.

I've never had a Nord because they're expensive - but I've played them in the stores and they seem very well built.  and they seem to be "the" keyboard for gigging.

I've also been very happy with my yamahas.  I've had an XS before and sold it, but it was solid built and the sliders and buttons and knobs were all very good quality.

Yeah. I know what you mean - it's not a one synth does all type of thing really, but still, sliders aside, I did like it a lot. I'm also glad in a twisted way to hear that the Kronos is not all it could be as it looked awesome in the demo video I saw and even though I don't really need anything like that any more, a part of me still thought.....hmmmmm, niiiiice, me want one !!

Ham N Egz
Nord user owner /here presently the Stage 2 73, Ive had electro 2 and 3 73 keys.

The Nord uses a Fatar action. There is a lot of debate on the velocity action for Acoustic Piano on the 61 73 and 76 keys , I cannot speak to the 88 since Ive never played one.

There is rumored to be an update for the stages(the piano just came out) that addresses velocity issues.

AFA the FEEL of the keys, I like them myself, and find the AC piano control OK , the electros work fine and you can get the Wurli to bark if you lay into it.

Organs have a hi lo trigger point setting so you can obtain the B3 triggering effect.

I would try to find a music store with one to see if you like it.Keybeds are like drawers, some hug you and some fit loose.
