Lack of hierarchical parameters, that's what's been making my mixes so lame!

I have a feeling having them will just make my mixes even lamer.

I know I don't have any VST3 plugins, but after reading Noel's list of items improved with using VST3 ("Sample accurate automation, silent buffer CPU savings, sidechaining, plugin resizing support, automatic VST2-3 migration, hierarchical parameter organization and plugin categorization are a few that that we did."), it's an excellent step forward.

This from the man who BERATED VST 3.....awww...ain't that sweet...

Not you, Mesh, ...Noel...

As is often the case (not just with Sonar obviously), as long as a feature isn't implemented, it is of negligible importance. When it is, it becomes an integral part of the sales pitch.

On the reverse, the opposite can happen on the user's end - that is, a feature that appeared of monumental importance before it got implemented turns out to be of very little use in reality.

And I was thinking last night that this could very well be the case w/ VST3, in spite of all the above, which was regarded as hype on Steinberg's behalf upstairs until yesterday.

I have absolutely no idea if any of my VSTs and VSTis come in VST3 flavour.

Is there a list anywhere?

So far I've only installed the ones that McQ recommended to me.

I always mix with protection so I've never picked up any VST's.

My BX-Shredspread comes in VST3 - YAY!!

What about stuff like PSP Vintage Warmer, Superior Drummer, Nomad Factory - anyone know? I can't seem to find out anything on their websites, so I'm guessing not.

The Maillard Reaction
It does all the cool things Noel said it does.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but IIRC almost all the Waves stuff runs in VST3.

All the FabFilter stuff runs in VST3.

The first DAW manufacturer to use ARA with Melodyne chose to use VST3. Celemony says that it's possible with VST 2.4 too... but it's likely most devs will use VST3 when they have the choice.

There are probably a couple more developers making VST3 plug ins. For example; One of the affordable film sound ADR plugins only works with VST3.

My point was that I found it humorous that a group of users that couldn't use VST3 in SONAR have lined up to post their observation that they don't use VST3 plugins.

It's kind of like if I suddenly realized that I never speak Swahili with the cashier at the Walmart in Tallahassee and then announced that I never speak Swahili.

Au kitu kama hicho.

:-)

best regards,
mike
