OK. My understanding of the basic idea of separate drives is one can be writing, while another is reading, etc. Does this method of "moving samples", still "go at it" or work that way?

I really appreciate your patience.

The C drive is accessed to read the directory junction. Once the OS resolves the directory junction, the data is retrieved from the drive the junction points to, in this case the sample drive. Using junctions has the added benefit of handling installers which don't read the registry for redirected multisample paths. Some of the expansion packs always install in the default locations. Because the default location still exist (but it redirected to another location), the data always ends up in the correct location.

Another thing to keep in mind, if you don't like the results, it is very easy to undo a directory junction, just delete the directory junction itself and move the data back to the original folder or use the registry edit method to point to the new multisamples folder. To my knowledge no one has ever gone back to registry edits once they start using mklink. I have been promoting mklink for some time. Searching the forum should come up with numerous examples where they have been used for moving Cakewalk sample folders, for example http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3086804. And directory junctions work the same for moving data for other application too. No need to know anything special about the applications, the OS handles the redirection for you.

That was very clear. Thanks a lot! By George, I think I've got it.

Actually, I understand it is the best method I've read, but having never done anything like that. It is intimidating.
I am just going to re-read your posts till I get it enough, to plow in there and cross my fingers!
