Anybody checked out "The Vinyl Kings"?...Superb musicians (studio & stage) performing original songs...Lotsa Beatles influence (intentionally) with a touch of the Beach Boys tossed in once in awhile...

I love that band!  Wish I had the vocals to make my own projects sound that good.   I'm aware of two other overtly beatle-obsessed groups, The Red Button, and the Sponge Tones.  The later in particular were great song writers.  Worth seeking if unfamiliar.

Thanks AT.

BTW, the Fab Four product page led me to Ken Scott's web site and some really good interviews with him.

An excerpt from a 2004 Mix Online interview:

Can you describe your methodology when you mixed a track in analog?

The way I worked for many years was to do a short section at a time. For instance, I'd get the intro right and then go onto the first verse, get that section right, splice it onto the intro and move on to the next section. I used to piece everything together like that and it enabled me to make some drastic changes between sections.

This process evolved from the Bowie sessions. Up to that point, there'd be the producer, myself, a second and quite often an artist, and if we needed to make changes, there would be hands everywhere on the console as we'd go through an entire mix. When it came to mixing Ziggy Stardust and Hunky Dory, it was just me, and quite often there wasn't even a second. The only way I could do what I wanted was to do it in sections. The knack was having it so the edit didn't sound like an edit. You had to have the very beginning there, and there had to be enough “hang-over” from the section before to make it sound right so it would all fit together. I would mark everything on the desk and then change it to the way I wanted it to sound. Then I would go back and put it where it had been and quickly I did it — bits and pieces.

I still think that my best work was done that way. These days, with computerized boards — and not necessarily going on to analog — I don't like it as much.

Speaking of Ken Scott - I'm really looking forward to the new "Epik Drums - A Ken Scott Collection" that Sonic Reality are working on, the videos they have on their site with Ken Scott and others involved, including the likes of Bob Siebenberg, Billy Cobham, Rod Morgenstein, and others, are pretty interesting.

Links to the videos: Sonic Reality - "Epik Drums - A Ken Scott Collection"

It's a huge library by the sounds of it, but will certainly be an interesting one.

Oh yes I forgot cos it's plugged into my USB permanently.
There is an iLok dongle - which adds a few bucks to the total. ($30.00)

The 'only' reason to own PT M-Powerered - ya get the dongle!!!! Bring on the Fab Four...

iPod / iTunes / iPhone / iLok = I Poor.

Is this with the Play engine or still the Kontakt Player? I parted ways with buying any new stuff from EW and soundsonline because of the Play engine, which if memory serves uses a dongle, which I ain't nuts about. I'd post over on the forums, but Doug Rogers banned me for criticizing some aspects of their marketing (I kept it civil, no foul language).

The Rickenbacker is a 12 string guitar, not a bass (although I did see a 12 string bass which had the 4 regular strings tripled like a 12 string guitar would have the normal 6 strings doubled at a Guitar Center a couple of years back. It was an OLD bass). Alembic did make an 8 string bass (4 strings doubled in octaves) - had one and it disappeared sometimes years back in the 70's.

Ditto on "hate those dongles" Love the beatles. Grew up with them, Jimi, Cream, Mike Bloomfield, Buffalo Springfield, etc, etc.
What a great way to grow up :-)

Probably a Hamer. The guy in Cheap Trick played a 12 in courses of 3 strings.
Saw them in a very small venue in the UK years ago with Dave Edmunds putting in a guest appearance.
That 12 really thundered.

FloridaMusicCo has it for $355.00. That's the lowest I've seen. I'm watching the 3rd video now. Talk about memories (and yes, I'm old enough!

I hate the idea of a dongle too but since I already have to put up with the stupid iLok for my waves plugins I guess the Beatles sound is worth trying out.  I just purchased it from Sweetwater for $197.50.    That's the best price I've seen anywhere, even with the academic discounts.   I had to look at it several times to make sure that there wasn't some gotcha that I was missing.
EDIT:  I just got a call from Sweetwater because the sales rep wanted to make sure that I understood that the software required an iLok to operate.  I mentioned how ridiculously low the price was compared to everywhere else and he said it is a special promotion price that is good only through May 31.

$197.50 is the 50% discount that a few are doing.
