I don't really know what you just said.

But having your own site is the best. Of course. No argument here.
BUT..... Bandcamp is great because it gives us sales versus having to have someone build a payment module for our site and provide security for us, plus make the payments necessary to work through a Authorize.net to allows us to process the actual payments going through our own site. Pain in the ass to build your own payment module for your site and not worth the cost.

And sometimes you have tunes you're trying to get feedback on but aren't "on your album" yet so you really don't want you unfinished stuff released on your site, so a place like SoundCloud or whatever is great for sharing without it being a "released version" the song.

Trust me, they all have their uses. The key is finding out what your needs are and finding the one that fits it.

Well, I stuck to some specifics ... from my experience ... so if the specifics bother you ... sorry about that, and ... of course ... good luck.

In the end, you have to assume/take responsibility for your own, specially if you want to get bigger ... and better ... and (of course) that is not my decision ... it's yours.

My comments were a bit further up and away on a chain of events than yours btw ... I kinda thought that yours was suggestiong that most people are so new and such beginners that they need the input badly on how to get better ... whereas when you are more established you know the secret ... a lot more intimately than you might be giving it credit for?

Again ... you decide!

No How

I've got a few songs up at Last.FM and i love the site because it has a vast spectrum of music and a vast spectrum of listeners.   IMO soundclick is all (90%) musicians trying to be heard and 10% people actually listening - if even that.  Last.Fm is much more oriented to listeners.
Like everywhere, if you want to hustle it can get a lot of play ( I don't hustle unfortunately) but even so, it's a cool site.
Hey Rick that site looks cool :-)   I've added it to my bookmarks.  Thanks for suggesting Last.FM

Funny, last night I was thinking exactly the same thing; that SC is mostly a musicians hangout, and most listeners are musicians. So yeah I agree.

I don't like to hustle either, and I've always preferred to be outside the spotlight.  When ever I performed live on stage I never felt comfortable because the music biz felt like utter complete madness  {Security! Security!)  No joking, and I been stalked and set on by young women.  One of my female vocalist kept getting creepy obscene phone calls {ughhh} that really freaked us out!! We reported it and eventually that freak stopped calling.

Nowadays I'm happy just writing and music production and if I'm lucky I might get offered a publishing deal to have a known young egomaniac, starry-eyed hyperactive teen get all the spotlight they want!

Julie,

Thanks! I'll check that thread out again.

Storm,
I agree that having ones own site is a good idea, it's only a start, from thereon other sites need to be utilized for marketing and retail purposes such as; CD-Baby, Bandcamp, Amazon, Facebook and/or similar social networking (fanbase), and sites that assist with promoting and submitting to radio stations and labels.

Moshkiae,
I understand what Storm is trying to explain! Bandcamp is setup to help bands sell their music and making that process easier. I've added Bandcamp to my bookmarks, my only slight crit is the player audio quality.

Timidi,
Thanks, will check that site out! But I'm not sure it be what I'm looking for. Not just another forum for musicians? (musicians hangout)

:Update:

I just joined Last.FM.  Great site!  Thanks for the suggestion Rick :-)

Last.FM gives artist/bands the opportunity for radio play and get paid (royalties) for the plays!  You get MP3 @128 or better and you can also build up a fan base and chat!  And like other music sites you can post media content such as video and updates (shows/events).  This is the sort of site I've been looking for :-)

Wanting to branch out, I recently searched for similar sites and came across; Jango

Then there's another site; Bebo  unlike radio sites (Jango and Last.FM) at least it seems to be an improvement on MySpace.

I've decided to hold on to my SC account, mostly for it's player which is OK and handy for easy-use on other sites, although it occasionally has loading issues I suppose it's good enough considering it's free.

Anyway! I hope other sites will follow the same trend as Last.fm and Jango.  The idea of merging radio with artist/band music hosting is cool especially considering these sites pay royalties to the authors/writers.
