That is a velocity midi indicator, so if it's in the red, alot of velocity. Nothing to worry about though.
Hi, A1 - Actually, as has been said on this thread, it's a MIDI activity indicator, not a velocity indicator. You can have the barest whisper of a velocity level, or you can just push a button on a controller - do Anything in the realm of MIDI, and this fire engine red brick of light goes off up there at the top of the fader. That's where we see clipping shown in an Audio meter. But here it is in the MIDI strips just to indicate, "Yep - ya got yer MIDI goin' on there, pal." - It's redundant, we don't need more MIDI indicators, and it's silly that it looks the same as when an audio strip is peaking.
Also as has been pointed out on this thread, it's been like this in Sonar for some time. Only now the default color is the same red as for clipping. In Sonar 8.5, this was a light blue - and I literally never noticed it before. It was low key and subtle as it should be. - Who needs a MIDI fader at all, really? It's what's happening in a synth's Audio channel that we should be concerned about.
I can easily predict that newcomers to Cakewalk who have X1 as their first version will be confused by this. They'll be posting in here, "Why are my faders always peaked out????"--
