Thanks for your input, Where are you hearing the phasing? The vox are double tracked with 2 different mics a 55SH S2 at -12db and a SM58 LC at -24db the effects I used were a Waves H-Delay and a Sonitus Reverb with the main vox bussed to a flanger that is hitting -38db.
First of all, let me say that I hope I've not offended you with my mix suggestions/comments above. I posted what I heard as food for thought if you were interested (since you posted here in the Songs forum). That being said, I'm just hearing a bit of sizzle on the vocals that sounds like it's modulation/phase related. Maybe it's intentional and you're trying to fatten up the sound of the vocal.
Anyway, I guess you probably already know all this, but each of the three things you mentioned in your reply could be a contributor:
1. If you're double mic-ing a single performance you could get phase distortion depending on the exact physical configuration of the mics with respect to each other. You probably do this all the time and have the mics taped perfectly together. Still, it's a potential source of phasing. I assume you probably checked this visually in Sonar after the take.
2. Maybe it's the flanger you mentioned, although -38db seems pretty quiet, but then again it probably doesn't take a lot of volume for a flange effect to be heard. I've never been a big fan of flanged vocals except as a special effect, but that's just a matter of personal taste.
3. Or it could also be the delay if you are using a short modulation setting on the H-Delay as opposed to something longer like a slapback. Again, a matter of taste.
So the bottom line is that if you like it that way, then it's already perfect. :)
