In X2a you cannot use Drum Maps with the Step Sequencer. Probably not a good idea to mix X2a issues in an X3 thread.

edit - wtf???
okay - yeah, so i have been just forgot the trick since i've not been using ss in sonar for the last several months...
on the midi track, assign a drum map.  for this project i was using battery 3 and the wicked kit.
( i usually keep step sequencer open when i'm working on it, so this is one of those swiss cheese brain moments).
edit a new ss clip. close ss. expand take lanes for the midi track.
(this works better if you have ss undocked)
double click the ss clip. it opens ss with no data.  double click the same clip again and you have data mapped on the right drum map.
so they do work, it's just one of those annoying things like snap settings in prv not following global till you turn snap off then on again.

and here i thought i was going nuts...

fwiw, the sonar x2 reference guide http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/kb/reader.aspx/2007013290 on page 1829 and the x3 reference guide http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/kb/reader.aspx/2007013322 on page 1963 give detailed instructions on using the step sequencer with drum maps.  just curious if tech support is telling users one thing but the reference guides have not been updated.

Now THAT would be interesting.

I had posted several times in the past on this subject, and the Cakewalk folks never came in and corrected anything.

I just heeded what they told me and stopped using drum maps with SS.  For me it wasn't any big deal anyways, as I just printed a cheat sheet I made in Word that listed the kit pieces and the note names and numbers, for each custom kit I set up, and that works just fine for me.

I WILL attempt to see if perhaps the earlier information I had been given was incorrect, and if so, I will immediately go back to using drum maps and will start recommending folks use them in future posts.

Dan Gonzalez [Cakewalk]
Hey guys, sorry for not responding to this thread quicker! I am going to try and reproduce this issue today.

meh

Steps to replicate....
New Project
insert audio track
insert MIDI track
assign Addicitive drums (or Session Drummer) as my soft synth
(optional)Assign a drum map to the MIDI track
View Step seq.....all is well
enter a couple of events
Close Step Seq
Reopen Step Seq
No Events in step seq???

Is this a bug?

TIA

Confirmed on my end.  The Step Sequencer is opening a new Step Sequencer instead of the existing one. The sequence is still there, but you must open it within the Step Sequencer from the top right of the clip. I look into this further.  This only seems to happen with Drum Maps.
