I just followed the formula in msg #1.
After re-opening the project, double-clicking on the step sequencer clip opens an step sequencer with the map applied (I am using AD2 map supplied by CW but it should not matter), double-clicking the clip again populates the step sequencer. I am running 64bit Cambridge on Win7 but this should not matter either.

Yes this is what I am doing also....but it "unreliable" sometimes that works and sometimes it does not.

Thanks for trying it though

I may have found a superior workaround for this. I find that if I first open the clip in the PRV by choosing Piano Roll from the view selector in the corner of the clip, close that view, and then re-open it in Step Sequencer by the same method, then it opens correctly with only used rows showing as it should, and it will continue opening correctly from then on, including after saving the project with Step Sequencer closed.

I just quite using drum maps in Step Sequencer, and I have a laminated Word doc page with a table showing the kit pieces for each note number/name, but I long ago just memorized which notes are assigned to which drum kit pieces, so it isn't an issue for me.

I had posted about this issue going back as far as either 8.5.3 or X1 (can't remember which), so this has been out there for quite a long while and I don't think they are going to change things anytime soon.

That would be too bad since it's such a fundamental function.

1.  first open the clip in the PRV by choosing Piano Roll from the view selector in the corner of the clip
2.  close that view
3.  then re-open it in Step Sequencer by the same method

I think I'm doing this the same way....but I don't get reliable results.

thx for the suggestion
