I have been unable to replicate the problem. This was a problem in X2 addressed in X2a (see http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/kb/reader.aspx/2007013301 ref CWBRN-11274). Was the project created in X3?

try importing them as mono clips. Also, make sure you have no tracks selected when importing. I have never seen that behavior fwiw.
 
Give a step by step of your process with all of the details in each step. There has got to be something causing this behavior.

I am sorry, my bad. I am using X2 at work and X3 at home and the problem was only with X2 because of missing patch. Downloaded it, and problem solved. Thanks for all the replies!

I am sorry, but everything you guys suggested turns out to be the same result. No matter what I do all audio files end up in the same track!



When you use the drag & drop method, you need to drag the files onto a blank space in Track View rather than onto an existing track.

Import your tracks in 8.5. Save it then reopen it in X3
