@dan I'm not disagreeing, contrary to common perceived opinion in these forums I'm pretty open minded, I just don't see how it could be done with Cakes cooperation in the real world. I do remember this but from I saw they were hacks, and pretty good hacks.

For me I don't really care too much about colour, it's always the sound and workflow, but I do understand and appreciate it matters to others.

So here's a question for the Sonar developers:  Why didn't you put 100% full color customization into X3?  Personally, for the most part, I'm fine with the way it is and the options that we have, however, it's not like this is a new conversation.  With just about every new version that has come out with different color customization than the previous version - especially when X1 came along and removed a lot of the options - people have complained that they wanted the old options back or even more.  Why not just put someone on the dev team on this and add back the customization we used to have.

Sure, it would probably be hard to open this to the outside, especially after it has already gone to market, but why not develop it into the code then?  Your customers obviously want this and have for several years/versions, yet there still isn't the same level of customization as there used to be (even there are now things added we didn't used to have).  This kind of goes along with most features that get taken out for some reason (do I need to bring up layers vs lanes?).

Can someone from Cakewalk explain why this is the case?  Or at least give us an idea of the roadmap as to whether this is going to be put back in or opened up for some 3rd party to deal with?

I can answer that, it wasn't on the roadmap. Are you complaining that colour customization was introduced in X3 or would you have preferred that it never happened?

Of course later versions of Sonar bring enhancements and improvements (and occasionally things need to be cut out for coding or design reasons), but to say that X should have priority over Y is just your opinion, and by the look of it there are a lot of different opinions out there. My opinion is fix the bugs first. Cake should listen but in no way are they accountable to us.

Cheers...

Huh?  Neither.  Of course I'm glad they added some color options back since X1.  This alone should tell you that Cakewalk had it on the roadmap.  It used to be in Sonar, then it went away, and since then people have complained that they wanted more color options again, pretty much constantly and in pretty large numbers.  Simple.

And for the record, I'm not complaining.  I'm trying to help put forth the message that so many others are.  If you are satisfied, that's great, but your satisfaction isn't really helping anyone get the message across that there is a desire to be able to customize the interface more - and in ways that used to be available.

I think you misread, I wrote earlier that:

Nobody is ever satisfied (inc me), I just try to be realistic... I say again I totally understand this is important to some and of course enhancements to improve anything are nice. Don't let me stand in the way of your views though, good luck!

I'll never understand those who say, "why worry about the colors, just make music. Your wasting too much time with customization." That's all fine and dandy but it makes it seem like all we're doing is customizing out colors and that's it. It only takes an hour, if that, to make it look like you want if we could make it look the way we want. I used to just import the previous color scheme as well and guess what, that only took a minute or so. So please refrain from saying things like that.

I have a 27 inch monitor and I have presets for custom brightness and contrast settings.

I searched the whole thread, I didn't see one person who said that. Most opinions seemed pretty respectful. And where opinions may have been harsh I certainly clarified this later. There may be difference of opinions and people are entitled to them (as are you).

If you want people to talk about the specifics then supply the specifics, otherwise expect generalisations and football team mentality. BTW there have been a lot of good posts here that have done just that (been specific - Jlien and Paulo).

Pretty much my argument too..

Having an opinion or a counter-opinion is fine, we all like to banter about how we feel about something. However constructing adjectival statements peppered with generalizations and extreme descriptives simply comes off as as a rude (and crude) attempt to influence one.

It's like listening to the 'Sham-Wow' guy.

Of course, my observations comes can come off as condescending, but the alternative, bare-faced commentary, is far worse.

I like the new colours in X3 very much, and I also very much appreciate and use Panu's mods.

There is one difficulty I have with colours: identifying the track(s) armed for recording at a glance. The little white area is just too, well, little for me to see without taking the time to look quite carefully. I would wish for the whole track or tracks to change to a pre-chosen (by the user) colour/text combination as soon as record arm is selected, the same combination to be used on any track that is armed for recording. The user would naturally avoid having any other (non-selected) tracks use a similar combination.

For example, let's say my colour selections are all fairly pastel blues for percussion, yellows for keyboards, greens for guitars, etc. Well, then I might choose a bright red background with black text for any track currently selected. So, if I select a green guitar track, it would instantly turn red and I'd see the text in black.

Maybe being able to keep the same colour as originally chosen by us for each track would be better, if we could dial in a different intensity of colour to be used when the track is selected. For example, if the shade of green for my acoustic guitar is of medium intensity (say 5 on a scale of 1 to 10), I could choose to have it change to an intensity of 1 (almost white) or 10 (extremely dark).

Anyway, that was my two cents' worth. I'm very, very happy with Sonar X3d but my oldish eyes do struggle with that one area.

#33 was and to an extent, so was #30. When X1 came out, that statement was all the rage.

What I fail to understand is why some people just don't get it. I CANT F***ING SEE THAT WELL!!!!! Why are some of you so upset by that? "Oh, I like the colors", or "I manage just fine" but still my complaint is unfounded? The best is when one says, "(paraphrased) Well Cakewalk can do what they want. It's their business". If you haven't noticed, "we" are their business. I realize that I'm one of the few that wants the color options back the way they used to be back in 8.5 but go ahead, keep arguing with me but stop putting words in my mouth. How would you like it if you were going blind and there's nothing that can be done? My eyes hurt looking at that god damned color scheme and if that bothers you, then bully for you. Hopefully I'll get to help or annoy some of you for a long while but it seems they're getting worse and this is what I love to do.
