I'm trying to control a sound module with the a500pro controller and I'm not having any luck. I have the apro plugged in with an ac adapter as instructed in the manual. I have both units on the same midi channel. I'm not getting a midi signal to the module. I'm not sure what ports I should have checked in the controller properties. A little help would be great, thanks.

The ports you need to check in Sonar are the MIDI ins and Outs of your MIDI controller.

I also see no mention that you connected your MIDI controller with USB or 5pin MIDI. Just plunging it into an AC unit will not connect it your PC and Sonar.

You also might need to install drivers for the windows architecture your running. It might not be a plug and play. Most need drivers

Yes, it is connected to my interface via midi in and out. I use the apro to control my soft synths. Now, I want to use the apro to control a hardware harmonizer. I connected the harmonizer via midi to the apro and into my interface.  I want to be able to play a chord on the apro to trigger the harmonizer. This worked when I had the harmonizer hooked up to my Microkorg. I can't get it to work with the apro. That's why I asked what the in and out ports should be that are listed in sonar.

Use USB midi if you can. Assuming you don't have USB midi, the harmonizer midi out should go to the midi in of your sound interface and that is that.

The APRO just plug into PC via USB.

Then route the MIDI in cakewalk making sure you set the correct channels. APRO defaults to channel 1.

Cheers.

Hey CakeAlex, The Apro manual states you need to have an ac adapter and not usb to use the apro with a sound module. The problem is when I did that I lost my midi connection. What I mean is, with a usb connection I can play my softsynth. When I plug in the ac adapter and unplug the usb I no longer have midi to my softsynth. I'm wondering if I have to configure the Apro from scratch using the ac adapter and reinstall the drivers. I'm not sure.

I have a A300 Pro, it does not come with a mains adapter because it actually powers off the USB. I turn it on using a flip switch next to where you plug in the USB.

I'm not sure your A500 Pro is the same or not, it may/may not require external power with USB. You can easy tell if it's on or off of when the display lights up. Try the switches near the USB in anyway (or check your setup manual).

Windows should also make a sound and indicate that the A500 is connected with USB (The USB goes from A500 Pro to your PC).
Once there you can install or update to the latest drivers:

Let us know if you get this far.

The  A-500pro powers up fine. The midi cables are hooked up. I can play a soft synth with the keyboard. What I can't do is use the A500pro to trigger my harmonizer. You sing a note, play a chord on the keyboard and you have harmonies through the harmonizer. Like I said, I used to do this with my Microkorg.

Do a factory reset and then...

A-500PRO (no AC adapter required) -----(USB cable only)-----> PC -----> SONAR's Preference [MIDI->Device] (tick all A-PRO ports in both Inputs and Outputs) -----> A-PRO Editor/A-PRO Control Surface Plugin (choose "A-PRO2" for input port and "A-PRO" for output port in both cases) -----> SONAR's MIDI track (choose "A-PRO1 Omni" for input and select EITHER of these for output: "A-PRO Midi" if you're connecting the harmonizer to A-PRO's MIDI Out, or your interface's MIDI Out if the harmonizer is connected to it)

@Alex:
So you're using A-Pro as well... Do you have A-Pro Control Surface Plugin selected in Preferences->MIDI->Control Surfaces? Maybe you could try this again for me?

Hey Jlien, I did exactly what you said but still no harmonies. It's like the harmonizer isn't getting midi to it.  This has really got me stumped. Thank you for your help. I'll keep trying.
