[CWBRN-33019] "GAIN" Dial On Instrument Tracks Should Adjust Audio, Not MIDI Values

The "gain" knob on instrument tracks Inspector only adjust the MIDI volume value, which basically does nothing.  It should work the same as a gain on a normal audio track adjusting the actual audio signal.

Do you mean in track View, as you can choose to have both midi volume and console volume in the same track.
Go to Track Control Manager, tick Volume under Instrument Strip and OK. You'll see a new Volume bar and if you have Track Inspector open at the some time, when you move the Volume bar in the Instrument strip, the rack Inspectors Volume moves with it.

Or have I missed the point?

Sorry, no.  I am talking the gain knob in the track Inspector.

With you now, but oddly when I move it in the Track Inspector, it modifies the Velocity in the Track View, not Midi volume, so seems miss labelled too. Seems it should be called Velocity and be in the Track Inspector and available when you select Midi in the Tab at the bottom and be actual gain when you select Audio.

I just split the Instrument track to check what moved what.

Thank you very much for the screen shots.  I was going to do it later but I am at work :)

Moderators, can this thread be moved to the "Problem Reports" area?

The inspector has separate MIDI and Audio tabs for a Simple Instrument track. I reported a long time ago (c. 2011) that the Gain knob on the Audio tab should be audio gain rather than MIDI velocity offset. The report was closed - working as intended.

geez - that is terrible!  perhaps they will listen to this thread.  Do I need to do anything else to get the bakers to review this?

I reported this issue a while ago.  Someone from CW replied and said it was a known issue.
