It'll be 15 years this fall. Last thing she told me was "play music". After all the years of worrying and telling me I should get a real job, I finally had her benediction. I'll turn 40 next year and my only "regret", or more like a sense of urgency, is to not have done enough yet to "immortalize" all that I have learned from her - like, sharing with the world part of the wonderful person she was, through her values and beliefs. I refuse to see all that she was to just end w/ me. In a way, I feel closer to her as the years go by - more and more I see how just much of her I carry with me. They live through us.

I tried to say more earlier but my mind froze and went in to shutdown mode when I saw "mom passed away". It's 13 years for me. The worst part of the whole thing believe it or not, for me, was coming home after the funeral. I still lived at home at the time. I guess walking in and not seeing her there and knowing I'd never see her again forced it all in to reality all at once you know? Just try to stay busy to keep your mind off it and eventually over time you start to get kind of numb. I threw myself in to video games because I didn't have the money or space for a recording studio back then. I would stay up for 4 ~ 5 days at a time and still make it to work every day for months. Stay close with your brothers and sister if you have any. It's real easy for families to fall apart in times like this. It happened to mine.

I always shudder when I see or hear news like this, our mothers are so dear to us all. Her memories will stay forever, and I genuinely believe that is what is known as our 'spirit'. Kept alive in the hearts of loved ones who are left, and the people they interacted with throughout their lives. Likewise when we pass on, our memories or spirit will live in our own sons and daughters. Sad news, and I hope you and your family will come through.
