@Zargg   I really like my D5's. I've had Yorkville YSM-1's, JBL 4311's, Mackie HR824's and have nothing but praises for these. I'll get the D8's at some point, though I really would love to check out the JBL 708P's.

Thanks, Michael.
Want to try out coax speaker design.
I've been wondering about these and the Fluid FX8. My room is too small for 8" I believe, so the D5 might fit the bill.

My room is small, but I also monitor quietly. I was impressed when I got 'em and almost 6 years later, I still am!

I really like my D5's. They are the first version and have held up well. I added a mid-price sub to augment them a small amount on the very low end. Works well.
The monitors really reproduce most of the spectrum very well. I listen at a lower overall volume than I did for many years. But they can really crank it up when you want.

Very impressive gentlemen! Some of your studios look better than many a music store!
No image from me I'm afraid. Just imagine some wannabe with headphones squinting at 2 computer screens in a tiny apartment, scratching his head, and index finger playing a musical keyboard - and that's me.

I think I'll hold off for now. I have a carpet problem that my Yorkies kinda caused. I need to get that cleaned up. I mean , it's only stains, but it looks bad right now. I keep procrastinating on dragging out the carpet cleaner. I have a bunch of "stuff". Most of it I don't use as much as I thought I would.

Amazing how much you can do with only a computer, recording interface, monitors and instruments. Looks are optional. I'm in a bedroom now with all my stuff. It is tight in there but it works for me. My guitars almost have me crowded out of there.

If all goes well I'll eventually have a decent sized studio. I've started the permit process with the township and submitted drawings. I have a carpenter.I moved my underground electrical service. I'm set to start. Details can bog progress down. Started out as a sunroom addition. I added an additional garage /shop *studio* to the plans. I figure it will be easier to do it all now instead of starting the process again later. I'll take pics when it's done. I'm not sure when that will be

Good eye there Ed.
I just put it up there like that so you would notice :)

505 owners can spot 'em a mile away.

I lived in mine for about two years also.

Then I stepped up to the HR16 and HR16B. Later added a Alesis Drum Module (can't recall now what the model was but it was rack mount).

Was it the DM4 or the DM5? I had the DM4 but found myself not using it nearly as much as I thought I would when I bought it.

I do most of my recording on location at churches, concert halls, etc.  But here is what my post-production/editing studio looks like.

Re: post your "studio" picture 2017/10/11 15:28:51 (permalink)
Looking at these I'm really surprised no one has dealt with the reflection from monitor -> desktop -> ears. When I ran REW in my room (untreated 11x10x12 carpeted bedroom w/curtains and sofa) this was by far the worst reflection (other than the 100Hz bump due to room size). This reflection is independent of room size and wall treatment so I assume it will show up in most people's setups. Yet, it is not being dealt with (and it's hard to do so - acoustically treating the desktop surface makes it hard to move a mouse around or place a keyboard). In my case, the reflection caused a comb filter with a notch every 1.3kHz. This is caused by the destructive interference of a ray 5" longer than line-of-sight, if my math is correct. Covering my desk top with foam removed the comb filter. I guess I'll have to rely on Sonarworks/ARC to remove the effect around my head space. I think that'd be better than dealing with the comb filter. I have plots of the frequency response here.
