problem configuring sound module

I am running a version of Sonar 1.0 and have just bought a new Roland JV 1010 sound module, which I have connected through a USB port.

The problem is I can't seem to get any sound out of it.

Please can anyone help.

    Let's cover the basics:

    1. Midi out from PC to midi in on JV.
    2. Midi out from JV to midi in on PC.
    3. Audio out from JV to audio in on PC.
    4. Proper track assignments -- midi port/channel, plus audio
    5. Are you using any type of midi controller?

    ???

    Thank for the reply.

I am using a midi controller.

Currently I am using a interface midi USB, with one cable going to the midi in on the JV, and the other going to the midi out on the controller.

You do have the audio out cables attached somewhere yes?...Switch the MIDI-USB thru to the off position on the JV...also make sure that your midi device inputs and outputs are assigned in Options>Midi devices.

I am not sure what you mean by this statement .....

"Switch the MIDI-USB thru to the off position on the JV"

in the midi devices in Sonar, it shows up as........ USB MDID 1X1

I use an XV2020 which is similar to the JV1010...if it is the same then on top of your unit there will be a diagram. On that diagram there may be a selection which says MIDI-USB thru, if so, select this while in system mode and see if it is turned off. If it is not turned off then turn it off so that your JV transmits and recieves data through the midi in and out which is hooked up to your interface.

Although you may run into probs not having the midi in and out connected..just re-read your initial post? Not sure if the interface your using will cut it using the controller and the JV at the same time.

    sorry if this didn't help

Currently I am using a interface midi USB, with one cable going to the midi in on the JV, and the other going to the midi out on the controller.

If the midi interface has a thru mode you should be able to get sound out of the JV when playing in realtime.

in the midi devices in Sonar, it shows up as........ USB MDID 1X1

Have you selected this for the input and output on a MIdi track?

THE SOUND MODULE DOES NOT HAVE A MIDI THROUGH SWITCH ON IT, SO I DON'T KNOW IF YOUR ADVICE IS RELEVANT.

BUT THANKS VERY MUCH FOR TRYING.

THIS IS BECOMING A BIT OF A MINEFIELD FOR ME.

Press and hold the JV1010 Volume button for a few seconds. That triggers a short musical phrase using the current patch. If you can hear that, you have the audio routed correctly from the JV1010 to your mixing desk. If not, the problem is in the audio signal chain.

If you hear the audio as described above, the problem is in the MIDI chain somewhere.

In my setup, I have the MIDI Out of the controller going to the MIDI In of the MIDI interface. Then I go from the MIDI Out of the MIDI interface to the MIDI In of the JV1010. In SONAR, I create a MIDI track that outputs to the Port that's connected to the JV1010. And Input Exho is set to Auto Thru. In this way, I can simply select a track and the MIDI coming from my controller is automatically routed to the external synth connected to the right MIDI Port and Channel.
