"BLISS" another Venus tune featuring R.Son and us!

OK, I was thrilled by the response on Flutter.  Thanks all.  This song is just a tad different.  I was involved coordinating musicians and playing bass.  The "rapper on this is R.Son (Richard Ceo) a very talented guy.  We would appreciate your feedback as always.  This has been sent to be mastered also.  You'll recognize some of the usual suspects on here.  Thanks in advance for any feedback! OH, it is another Porras/Stratton tune.

Dena Porras (Venus)- Vocals
Will Stratton-Guitars(except lead)and Beats
R.Son (Richard Ceo)-Rap verses
Mark Cline (CLEAN)- Lead Guitar
Darren Matthes (Dmax)- Drums
Warren Willingham (evadianepug)- Bass

Nice, that's got a cool vibe to it. The female vocal seemed out of key in the early phrase and actually from time to time. Not sure why. Not out of tune, out of key.

When it started I was like, WTF?

I have to say, this is not at all what I expected... So A for creativity and stretching!

I really liked everything about this Warren. And while I'm not a rap/hip hop fan, what was good about this was that it fit in with a real song? And I like the "heated" vibe... "oh oh oh..." In fact? Half way through? I closed the blinds...

    I'm very impressed sir.

I really like the song and performances.  Production is top notch.

I could do without the rapping.  This feels like a song that wants to be strong rock, but keeps getting derailed by the rapping, and so is neither rock or rap.  Of course just my opinion.

The Wrap on Rap: I knew that rap was not usually accepted here, but having a rap as a featurette on a song has always been a mission of mine. When I sought out a rapper, it was not as easy some would think. I've known several. My only request was that profanity be restricted but the artist was otherwise free lyrically. Not only was Richard happy to oblige, but he was very professional. For anyone who listens to rap, it should be known that there is also a melody...the vocal fluctuates but should also be in tune and his lyrics accompanied mine PERFECTLY. Although I still think Bliss's engineering is incomplete, I consider the process of this collab a great achievement.

Yes, I'm back ...with minions. Luv, D

I love this tune. I'm not much of one for rapping, but I would agree with Venus - this fit the tune perfectly and sounded great with her voice.

And, I would agree, the production is far from complete on this tune.

But, this is certainly a great tune, and was a lot of fun to play on.

Thanks for including me, and thanks all for taking a few minutes to take l listen.

    Take care.

Robby- Well, thank you!  Hey, remember that tune"Cause no one knows what goes on behind closed blinds".  Or something like that!  Ha.

Shawn- Thanks for listening and for commenting.  We appreciate it!

Mark-  You know, I have never listened to a full rap tune that I can remember.  I usually don't understand what most of them are saying and don't want to hear what some are saying.  I did, however, like this guy from the beginning.  I have gotten into mixe genres and believe that there is room for that.  Remember our "Jazz The Funky" tune with my "square dance rap".  LOL!!  Anyway,  we appreciate you listening and understand that some won't like this.  Hey, thanks for saying it though.  Gives us something to think about.  You know, I don't think much.  :-)

well after the absolute masterpiece which was Flutter, you show your versatility and skill by putting this out there. the tune is excellent, kinda like the Aerosmith meets Run DMC of a few years back, mix sounds pretty balanced but is quite narrow, wanna hear this mastered. great vox all round.

Frank- Will Stratton has someone who does his mastering.  He did this mix in Afghanistan with a rifle next to him and working on a laptop.  He is back home safely (thank God) and is ramping up his studio.  The mastering guy is John Vestman.  I'm hoping his work fills out the sound here.

Mark(MGH)- Wow, you have been very kind on your critiques.  That is greatly appreciated!!  "Aerosmith meets Run DMC" What a nice thing to say.  As I said before, I am NOT a rap fan.  However, when I heard the basic arrangement of this I was drawn in to the tune.  R.Son has a great way of doing his thing.  Thank you, Mark!!!!!!!!

Tom da Pogue-  You silver tongued devil you!!  Thank you for the very flattering comments.  Dena and Will write some neat tunes.  This is the only song on this whole page I didn't write or co-write.  It is a bit different bass line for me and it was fun to do.  I listened to RATM, both songs you listed.  I would LOVE to see thoae guys live.  So tight and so loud.  Works for me.  Thanks again!

Alan- Thanks for listening, buddy!  We really appreciate it.

I agree about the Gwen Stefani sound. Also reminds me of the female vocalists from Baby Namboos, a side project related to Tricky and Massive Attack.

My only crit would be the rap vocal sounds a bit thin. I know it has lots of efx on it, but maybe just  a bit less of the telephone/radio speaker feel would be good for me.

Guitars have an excellent grit to them.

Re:"BLISS" another Venus tune featuring R.Son and us! 2011/03/12 02:21:49 (permalink)
It's been so long since I played drums on this track that I'm not sure if I can pick out any of my acoustic drums in there anymore, but I like the electronica vibe, regardless. I like rap, metal, dixieland, whatever... I'm one of the biggest advocates of letting go of "genres" so this is a great tune for exploring that space that lays outside the aforementioned. Anyway, when's the after party???!!!
