"Brown" - a collab with ohGrant!, psalmist35, & Beagle & now with Guitarpima! new mix!

I've already let someone hear this and the comments I received back were that it made her chuckle and that it's "out of character" for me...

so I hope this makes you chuckle, too!

A little over a year ago, Grant (ohgrant!) sent me these 3 guitar tracks and told me to do what I wanted to with them.  Wow, they were incredibly good, too!  excellent 12 bar blues in A.  fantastic lead on this!

so I added organ, piano, bass (keyboard/MIDI/kontakt), drums by Superior Drummer.  Then I added some lyrics and scratch vocals and sent it to Rich (psalmist35) to and enlisted him to add some tasty tenor, alto sax and trumpet.

then Grant also added some blues harp!

I think this song is a treat!  I hope you enjoy it!

Brown

Well I'm sitting on this stoop, just a lookin' around
I see that girl a walkin' toward the north side o' town.
what a doll she is as she struts down the street
pearls round her neck
heels on her feet
I see my baby walkin' a lively and proud
dressed to the hilt is my lady in brown!

Oh what I'd do for just a minute of time
How can I get her to give me a sign?
she glance my way
my eyes start to pop
moving towards me and my heart it just stops!
then HE drives up in his '69 Crown
takes her away, oh my lady in brown!

Grant:  electric lead, electric rhythm (2), blues harp
Rich:  Alto sax, Tenor sax, trumpet
Beagle:  piano, organ, bass (keyboard), vocals
SD2:  drums ;-)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NOTICE!!!  NEW MIX UP NOW WITH ROBERT BOHMAN (GUITARPIMA) ON (WALKING!) BASS!

Robert did a great job adding a walking bass part to Brown!

link is the same as before.  click on it to hear the new version with the new walking bass part!

Hey Reece,

Dude, you're the "missing link" third Blues Brother, and we never knew it!

You, Grant and Rich did a dynamite job on this!  Great playing by all three of you, cool blues vocals and lyrics that are right on the money for the genre, and I really like how the organ, sax and harp add some extra "grit" to the entire production.

Great work, guys, cool stuff!

I like it.

It sounds like a room full of folks having fun all at the same time.

I think the collaboration worked out real well.

I dig the sax solo... it's under stated in a "cool' way.

best regards,
mike

Bob - well, apparently I got the right response from you!  not only a chuckle but a good solid laugh!   Not only did I sing this but the lyrics are "all me" too!  When Grant sent me the guitar tracks he had called the song "Brown" and that inspired me to come up with these lyrics, no other prompting was done to come up with them!  glad you liked it!

Bob O - haha!  I got some blues in me!  yeah!  Rich was incredible on the sax and trumpet!  I absolutely loved it.  and yes, the harp was a wonderful addition from Grant to go along with his excellent guitar tracks!  glad you liked it my friend!

Janet - so glad we can amuse you!  very glad you liked it and yes, I am honored to have Rich on this project.  he's fantastic!  (so's Grant on the guitar!  I love that lead!)

Malcomb - haha!  love doing stuff like this myself!  I don't get a chance to do it often and it might be a whlie before something like this comes along again.  glad you liked it!

Daryl - thanks very much!  we appreciate it!

Frank - haha!  well, I'd like to say I did that on purpose just to see how many people would complain about it!  but it was a mistake and I've added a little more pianny to cover the 3rd.  besides...I thought you guys liked fifths???  especially open ones????

Lynn - thanks so much!  we appreciate the listen and very glad you liked it!

Warren - good stuff to wake up to eh, Warren???    haha!  I love singing this fun stuff!   it was a blast!  I'm SO glad that Grant thought of me when he sent it to me to do something with!  he's da man!  so is Rich, in my book!  I love those horns!  yes, I left you hanging, but I've uploaded a new version with a little piano to cover the 3rd so you guys don't "hang me!" LOL!

Mike - thanks so much for listening and for the great comments!  yes, I agree, I loved Rich's sax solo very much!  it's fabulous!  and yes, we had fun with this and it would have been cool to have done this in one room - of course it would have been difficult for Grant to play 3 guitars, me to play organ, piano, bass & sing and for Rich to have played all those sax and trumpet parts at the same time....but hey - we can dream about it!!!

bapsi - glad you liked it!  I thought it was a "hoot" as well!  thanks very much for the listen and great comments!

great tune chaps, there could have been some becan references though surely? only nit is the drums are a bit underwhelming, in this kinda dirty blues they need to be big, raw and in your face!

Bruce - yep!  it was a "hoot" to work on!  thanks for listening and thanks for your comments!

Bill - thanks man!  I don't know when the next blues one will come, I've got several more "in the pipe" but no more blues are on the horizon right now.  glad you lied it, tho!  thanks!

John - thank you my friend for listening.  but what did I "not" forget???  [embarrassed]  I appreciate the listen and kind words!

Robby - thanks for listening and the comments.  yeah, I know there are a few minor timing issues.  I left them for "character" because - we all have warts...  if a lot of folks think it's a problem I'll fix 'em, otherwise, they're just part of the atmosphere of the song.  thanks again.

Chuck - thanks very much for stopping in and havin' a listen!  I am glad you enjoyed it!

baps - +ya!  and I'm sure the guys will see the comments as well, I've pointed them to the thread.  thanks again!

Mark - yeah, it's kind of like one of those Waylon perfect songs, eh?  nothing about trains or momma or becan...don't know what got into me!  thanks for the constructive comments about the drums.  I did struggle with the drums on this project quite a bit.  I don't know if I'll change them at this point, but your point is well taken!  thanks!

Jan - +YA!

Freddy -
so glad it made ya smile!  I know this is kind of "your territory" so if you enjoyed it then I am WELL pleased!  thanks!!!

Clifford - thanks so much my friend!  yeah, this was a blast - I never thought about doing anything like this until Grant sent me the guitar tracks and then it just "took off"!!!  thanks for listening and the great words!!!

ametuer - sp.ice of life is right!  I like being versatile!  it's what I strive for!  thanks man!

I have to offer kudos to Reece and Grant.

Reece thanks for being so patient with me.  I never anticipated that restoration to my home would have impacted me to the degree that it did.  Even after all the dust settled.  For that, I owe you my sincerest thanks for being so understanding, even when it took me so long to get you the completed tracks.

Thanks to Grant for the ideas on the sax solo.  Grant played the original part on guitar and I only took the idea to the sax.  This was great tool to help me break out of my constricting box.

This was a fun tune to do!  Thanks for the opportunity.

Nice job guys!! I think my ear buds are boosting the midrange too much since no one else has noticed a harsh midrange. The arrangement is good Beagle as are the other elements of the song. It sounds like something you had fun making. Enjoyed the listen.
