Summery of Notation fixes and features.
This has to be the number issue. Thus it was submitted by almost all.
1. Resolve the handling of triplets, including rests and ties.
Submitted by
Pbognar;
2. The ability to print with the triplet handling issues resolved.
3. The replaying of chords each time a note in said chord is moved to a new pitch (ala Logic).
4. A MIDI edit view where one has the option to view data simultaneously in notation, piano roll, and controllers (or any combination there of) (ala Samplitude).
5. The translation of articulation symbols into MIDI data (ala Cubase).

Guitarpima;
6. More than triplets. 5's, 7's, ETC.
7. If were going to print these, proper markings would be nice. For that though, there would have to be a page view with the ability to put in repeats and codas and things like that.
8. More subdivisions up to 64th notes.
Subitted by
Marce and others;
9. Synced Staff View with Piano-Roll and Controllers lanes: Show the controller lanes on the SV. Make the controller lanes editable with in the SV.
10. The Mapping of expressions is already in Finale, Sibelius, and Overture. Cubase extend from the Staff View to the Piano Roll. (and is a brilliant idea!)
11. Quantize per staff/track: separated settings in a same Staff view (already in samplitude)
12. StaffView&TrackView: The only original idea/thing i hasnt seen in other host, is to sync the Staff View with the Track View. I dont know if is a good idea, but i would like to see something like that.

12. Activate vertical scrolling - surely that can't be too programmer intensive?
13. Fix what you broke in the transition from 7 to 8. In 7 there are track status boxes (Mute, Solo, etc.) on the right side of the screen. Clicking on a status box made that track the "active" track. That functionality was lost in 8. Now I have to switch back and forth (again) from Staff View to Track to View to select a new active track and then back to Staff View to see where I was and what I was doing.
Submitted by John:
14. I would like to have stave wrap. As in word wrap.

15. Program a MIDI command that allows the musician to lasso (select) a group of notes in staff view and then apply contrary motion (with a checkbox for diatonic or chromatic).
Fix the bug in which the right-hand pane of instrument tracks doesn't conform to the order of the staves in the notation area.
16. Investigate if retrograde works correctly when selecting groups of notes, particularly groups of notes across bar lines.
17. Make it simple to change a given pitch's (or group of pitches) enharmonic equivalent. For example, in Sibelius, to change an F# to a G-flat just click on note and press enter. Something like that.

18. Include note values alongside "ticks" in right-click PROPERTIES/DURATION and PROCESS | LENGTH
19. Include (customizable) dynamic levels (p, mf, f, etc.) in right-click PROPERTIES/VELOCITY and PROCESS SCALE VELOCITY
20. Include interval names (m3, M6, P5) in PROCESS | Transpose
21. Staff View Editing tools akin to recent PRV enhancements -- some identical (glue, split, etc.), some specific to notation (one-click enharmonic respelling of single note or multi-selection, etc.
22. Quick change-duration -- drag a note left/right while holding a certain key/click combination (a la PRV tool enhancements) and have it scroll through smaller/larger note values (obeying snap-to) -- ideally with toggles for "adjust display only" / "adjust display and playback." (nondestructive, display can be reverted to original)
23. Quick-adjust dynamics -- drag a note up/down while holding a certain key/click combination (a la PRV tool enhancements) to adjust a customizable MIDI value (default velocity) -- customizable per project, per track, to accommodate mixing of sample libraries.
24. Quick-adjust inharmonic spelling - "respell" button and key-click combination for instant respell of C# to Db, for example. Add a modifier key for double-flat/sharp. Some kind of multi-select or find-replace option to perform the same operation on all C#'s notes in a selection or project.
25. When drag-copying/moving a passage of music higher or lower to new pitches, include option to copy it diatonically (new pitches within the same key) or chromatically (same exact intervals, with accidentals if necessary). I used to be able to do this with some combination of CTRL or SHIFT and my right mouse button, but this seems to have disappeared)
When drag-copying/moving notes, show shadow-notes snapping to new locations in real-time during the drag (instead of just a square cursor). With the current method it is difficult to pinpoint the exact destination in a drag-copy unless you watch the location readout at the top of the staff view -- and even then you have to translate from ppq in your head.
26. Customizable (per-project, per-track) Symbol-to-MIDI links-- User can set ff symbol to alter velocity or CC7 to 127, can set staccato symbol to trim a certain % of length, can set a crescendo symbol to draw a linear CC connecting two points. All nondestructive and over-rideable per-instance.
27. MusicXML import/export for improved transfer to/from notation software.
28. Rudimentary Sibelius/Finale import/export which IGNORES but DOES NOT DESTROY Sib/Fin-specific data. This way a user with a marked-up Sib/Fin score can import into SONAR for tweaking, then re-export without losing all of your Sib/Fin markings, layout, etc.
29. Some kind of "External Editor" option, similar to Tools Menu integration of external audio editors. Within a SONAR project, choose "Open Score in External Editor" to open up Sibelius/Finale -- "Update Changes in SONAR" when finished editing. Ignore but retain Sib/Fin-specific data (markings, spacing, layout) for later export
30. Rewire-ish bridge for hosting Sibelius/Finale within SONAR. Note events are linked so drag/move/copy/paste in one application instantly performs the equivalent operation in the other application. App-specific data remains attached to the notes (markings/articulations in Sibelius, CC data and PRV fine-tuning in SONAR). Playback of linked tracks can be handled by SONAR I/O or by Sibelius internal sounds, toggled by user per-track.
31. Complete and total 2-way synchronization between SONAR and Sib/Fin, perhaps with a new hybrid file format -- all application-specific data is retained so files can be transferred back-and-forth between the programs without losing Fin/Sib visual edits or SONAR MIDI tweaks. Checkbox matrix in "Preferences" listing all musical/MIDI elements (dynamics, markings, velocity, cc data, etc.) with individual toggles for "Handled by Sibelius/Finale" or "Handled by SONAR" -- non-destructive, can switch freely between the two toggled choices.
32. In terms of display options, it would be nice to be able to select the display color of the notes and the background color as well in the staff view, as is possible in the other views in Sonar.

33. An articulations lane
34. Ability to map articulations to expressions
35. Ability to bind the mouse wheel to the selected (or multi-selected) note pitch. E.g. click on a note, mouse wheel up raises the pitch, down lowers.
36. Select-and-tie function
37. Ability to bind mouse buttons to drop pre-selected note types. E.g. My mouse has 5 buttons. I bind one to quarter note, one to eight note, etc. Combined with the 'bind mousewheel to pitch', you could learn to 'touch-type' your mouse for notation.
38. Triplets (you've heard that before :) )

39. Make it easier to enter notes with a mouse. As it is now, entering an accidental with a mouse is a very clumsy procedure.

40. QWERTY KEYBOARD NOTE ENTRY : By default, typing A in the keyboard would input A below middle C, and on upwards for the other note names. To input a chord, one can press Shift and the corresponding notes. For example, to input CMaj7, one would press Shift>C,E,G,B on the qwerty keyboard. To change to a note to a different octave, press Control + Up/Down arrow.
41. Pressing the key "X", would input a rest of the corresponding note value chosen.
42. UP/DOWN ARROWS TO TRANSPOSE NOTES: Select a note, a chord, or group of notes, and use the up/down arrows to transpose chromatically up or down. Pressing Alt + Up/Down arrow would change to the equivalent enharmonic spelling. For example, if we have the note C, and we transpose that a half step up, if Sonar displays C#, then the shift would let Sonar display a Db.
43. CHANGING NOTE DURATIONS VIA RIGHT CLICK. Right click a note, or a chord, then a drop down box will show other note durations possible for that note. If increasing a note's duration value causes a measure overflow, Sonar will give us an option to delete the extra note values in that bar or carry them over to the next bar.
44. BAR SPECIFIC DISPLAY RESOLUTION: Aside from the global Display Resolution setting, if we select a bar or group or bars and right click, the options should include changing the display resolution for that section of music. Good when writing music with swing eights and triplets.
45. VELOCITY LANE VIEW. Display the velocity values of the notes shown in Staff view in a controller lane (similar to PRV) so that we can also draw velocity curves in Staff view.
46. CHORD INPUT: Click to just type in a chord symbol. Sonar should not automatically input the previous chord.
47. EXPRESSION MARKS, AND MORE: Please add legato, slurs, staccatto, tenuto, attack, etc. to the expression marks available. It would be great if adding a legato marking to a group of bars would increase the midi lengths of those notes by about 5-10%. LIkewise, a staccatto mark would decrease midi length by 20%, etc. Or adding a slide marking between two notes would input a portamento effect.
These expression marks and corresponding midi length changes should be user definable.
48. DYNAMIC MARKS, AND MORE: Input dynamic markings for note, notes, bar, or group of bars with corresponding midi velocity values. For example, if we choose a section of music and designate fff for that, Sonar would change the velocity values of all the notes to 127. Likewise, a section with a dynamic marking of ppp would have a midi valu of maybe 50.
These dynamic marks and corresponding midi values should be user definable.
49. COPYING CHORDS, EXPRESSION, DYNAMIC MARKINGS, ETC.: It should be possible to copy just chord symbols, expression and/or dynamic markings from one section of a staff to another section of another staff or staves, either by Contol+C, Control+V, or by drag and drop.
50. TRIPLETS/TUPLETS input and editing: This feature need a lot of improvements.
51. STAFF STYLES FOR TRANSPOSING INSTRUMENTS: Midi playback of transposing instruments remain in concert pitch, but there is the option to display the staff when transposed or written for that instrument.
For example, for a Bb Tenor Sax, the concert pitch middle C4 would appear in the staff view as D5 if the Bb Tenor Sax staff style is applied to the Tenor Sax staff. This would be a great feature when checking that the score is within the practical range of that instrument. Also great for printing out the part for a live performer.
52. PRINTING: We should be able to change the spacing between staves, and the number of staves to be printed on a page,

Susan G 53. Hide muted clips in SV (same as the option in PRV).
Please go over this list for errors and corrections. I must make a comment here. Outstanding ideas. Thank you all. This list is in the order of posting only.
