RE: SONAR FAQ

Is there any little tutorial or FAQ which would allow a user to do use two sound cards (or more exactly two sound output hardware devices)? What I am trying to do is use one soundcard for all MIDI etc, and a separate (USB based) headset to monitor everything. I want the sound to go out the back of the workstation AND to the separate USB headset. I am trying to avoid having two sets of headsets on the workstation, if possible. The soundcard audio outs are going into a separate PC which does the hard disk recording. I want to use the USB headset to listen in on the originating PC. I need the USB headset for VoIP applications. Does this make sense?

I have been building up my little studio with "older" equipment that I have been purchasing from eBay and such. I have several MIDI modules: Proteus 2000 Yamaha MU-80 Emu E5000 Ultra Sampler Zoom MRT3 <Drum Machine> A MIDI interface: Music Quest 8Port/SE <Purchased the WinXP driver from EarthVega> A Digitech Harmonizer A Behringer V-Amp Pro Audio Technica AT2020 mic All running through a Behringer Eurorack 1604A mixer Into the computer runing Sonar 4 Producer This information is illustrative as I recomend all this equipment. The sound card is an St Audio C-Port === WITH THE LATEST DRIVERS provided by ESI The sound card is a great peice of gear with tons of options and the price for all of this, so far is just over $1200. Not including the software, computer and monitors.

Hi, Rousseau....Love your faq page. I'm new here but was hoping you could help me with something. I just got sonar 4 and I'm trying to hook up my Korg Triton to work with it. I also have the Digi 001 and I'm using that for audio and as a MIDI interface. Here's my problem: I got the MIDI in's and out's of my triton connected to the digi 001 and I have the audio connected from my triton to the digi 001 audio inputs. I also setup the Triton instrument definition in Sonar. When I open up a MIDI track I can control the banks and patches from sonar but I don't get any MIDI codes recorded and I don't hear any audio. What am I doing wrong? I have the Triton on ch.1 and I have my sonar MIDI track on MIDI Omni. Can you help me? It would be greatly appreciated if you can.

bluescreen with ASIO drivers
2005/07/15 02:52:04
(permalink)
Hi guys, Why didnt I find this forum before? I've been using Sonar for around 5 and a bit years and I've been up through the versions. Originally used an ISIS card, and then updated to a Tascam US428 on a P4 2.8 with 1 gig of RAM. Everything has been fine using WDM drivers and playing with buffer sizes depending on the number of tracks running to control latency. However, when I got hold of Guitar Rig and found what it could offer, suddenly the latency was way too high. I went to ASIO drivers (the latest update) and this has solved the problem. Occasionally I have to drop from 128 to 512 to do a live vocal with a few real time effects but latency isnt an issue. What I have discovered is that I get a bluescreen roughly once per session, that doesn't seem related to any particularly function. Fortunately I save things regularly and haven't lost anything. Does anyone know whether its a glitch in the ASIO's or have I not set it up properly? ab

I am having a conflict with the service pak 2, when it is added to my system I'm getting a stutter. I am using Sonar 2.2 to produce a radio program for the past two years will no problems. I tried turning off the security but was not sucessful. I restored to an earlier point before update and was able to do last weeks program. Today i updated my system with sevice pak 2 and the stutter is back. Any suggestions? Alan Stevens Bel Aire Baptist Church Gulfport MS 228-832-1966 alan@belairebaptist.org

This might be an overly simplistic question, but how do you stop the view sticking with the Now Time cursor? I'm used to Ableton Live and have just moved to Sonar 4 Producer and I've looked all over the help files and these forums. I'm hoping its possible to allow a larger section of the track to be playing in a loop while I'm editing a small section of that loop. So I set up the loop, zoom in to start editing the MIDI notes, press play, and as soon as the Now Time cursor moves out of where I'm zoomed in, the whole view jumps to keep the Now Time cursor in view, when I don't want it the view to jump, the Now Time cursor can move on by itself while I'm zoomed in editing notes at the beginning of the loop. Can you help? Is there any setting in Sonar that will allow me to remain zoomed in where I want and stop the view moving itself along the score to keep the Now Time cursor in view? Or do I need to change how I work?

Thanks for the advice! adam I got mine from http://8portse.earthvegaconnection.com - Tom Hi BigSugar and Tom: This driver got an extra life time for the powerful 8Port/SE MIDI interface. Many Cakewalk products users are still using it because of this driver. I also bought the driver and it is working very fine under WinXP Pro+SP2. And if you not know, the developer is working in a 64bits driver, which must be finished until the end of 2005 (good news for the emergent MS 64 bits OS users). Greetings.

LotusLotus (don't klnow if you'll look back to this or not), but good for a FAQ post, nonetheless. Can you help? Is there any setting in Sonar that will allow me to remain zoomed in where I want and stop the view moving itself along the score to keep the Now Time cursor in view? Or do I need to change how I work? Press your scroll lock key. This prevents Sonar from scrolling the track view with the Now time. Just don't forget to press it again when you DO want to follow the now time.

Hi. I am new on this metters, so please excuse my probably mistakes. I am starting working with tha sonar 5 producer, and everything was going allright, until i came to a midi file, where the drums sound like a piano, and the rest of the tracks, seems to be unchangeble. Then i put tha same file to play on my Roland MC 80, and the drums plays ok, but tha bass on track/chanel two, sounds like a piano.Help me , please, to configure the sonar, so everything comes to the normal.I also tried with format 0, and 1 , but comes out the same. Thank You
