what is this error please?
Hi, Sometimes I wonder why things can't get simpler? Can anyone help here? Can not preview any of the files on the bottom at all ... and get this error if I try anything. You would think that a program would be smart enough to not have arguments with Windows at all! Hi, Can not get MC5 to show/preview any of the stuff listed on the bottom of the screen. Upon clicking on any of them, I get this, and I am not able (later) to take a look at the Dump file listed at all. Please advise, thx http://www.pedrosena.com/images/creatorerror.jpg

Hi, I can't get anything to show on that "Preview Synth" and the Cakewalk TTS is not listed either. And the "Auto Preview Bus" is blank and not showing anything and I can not click on it because that whole preview title bar is gray'd out. I can, otherwise play music through this, via the Midi, so I have an output listed somewhere! The sound card is the M-Audio 1010LE. My midi keyboard is an Oxygen 61. What makes it harder is not being able to take a look at the Dump file to be able to tell where the problem is. But I'm already guessing that the program is not loading something up or is missing a parameter. Nothing on that bottom part works at all or is usable at this point! Btw, thx Beagle ... now you know why I get so frustrated with geek'ry ... no one from Cakewalk has bothered even with an email, and you are the only one that has replied!

If the preview title bar is greyed out, then I'm not sure what is causing that problem unless it's something to do with a bad install. what OS are you using? this might be something that cake tech support has to help you solve. if they haven't responded it might be that your spam filter is catching their replies, or also they have acknowledged at times that some servers get rejected by their spam filters and they never get the message. I would send an email directly do willy jones, cakewalk tech support. (use his first and last name with no spaces and then at cakewalk.com).

Hi, I just removed it from the computer. And I want to thank you for your class and care! Some things work and some don't. I can get my Jupiter 8 software to work fine through it, but it is adding pops and clicks to it like crazy. If I just open up the Jupiter 8 software and play it by itself without MC, it has no issues whatsoever. On top of it, half of the VST's don't play via the keyboard/midi at all ... which suggests that the generic driver they have (they don't have one for M-Audio/Oxygen) for the keyboard is not very good. Just feeling kinda low right now. Spend some money in good faith and pretty much get nothing for it, and you are the only person that has even helped. At least you tried. This stuff is just too frustrating and it works in someone's head. Unffortunately that is not a computer that most people can not use. I think I'm going back to Ableton Live (have 7LE), since at least in it I could preview ALL the VST addons, and the keyboard worked !!!!!!!!!! MC has to "load" them, and I can not get them to even play half the time ... the keyboard is dead on them. The whole thing with software these days ... it just feels like such a rip off it's not even fun.

I understand your frustration, Pedro, but personally I think you're giving up too soon. I'd email Willy. he's a good guy and he can probably help. as far as the keyboard playing some things but not others - that's not the keyboard's drivers causing that - that's probably something wrong with the installation of MC. the keyboard sends MIDI or it doesn't - the drivers won't have anything to do with choosing this softsynth or that one. that has to be a problem with the softsynths and/or MC and the installation and the errors you're getting there. you're welcome - I'm glad to help. just hope you can get it working!

Hey, Mosh. I'd like to help but this is the kind of thing that I usually ask for help on! Didn't I read in the CH forum that you also have a version of SONAR? If so, SONAR has phone support available. Maybe give them a call?

Yeah, Pedro, don't give up yet! It takes many of us quite a while to get things working right. But don't let that discourage you. Keep at it. And this really is the best forum ever...as you can see, though, not too many of us know how to fix your particular problem. (if Beag doesn't know, then WE sure can't!) :-) But for most problems...this is definitely the place to come. This MC forum rocks!!!

I get dump errors too from time to time. Screen dumps.... I've been told it's a driver issue.... But hang in there. MC is a pretty basic but it is also a decent DAW...and as such, it has a learning curve so stick with and work through the problems....we all had to work through problems to get to where we are.

Good luck Pedro.... We're still here if you need help. You didn't tell us what OS you were using. Very few have had issues loading up MC5 on the proper platform. I'm sure yours should not be an exception. Some suggestions c/o DLL's. It's very possible that the MCF80U.dll is loaded is incorrect or corrupted. Similarly, if you loaded the Software for the Wrong OS ie on a WIN7-64 bit without loading it in 32-bit compatible? mode, things like this could happen. If the DLL is missing, it could cause this, but I believe the error code would have told you it was missing.

Hi, XP Pro up to date I haven't re-installed MC5 yet, and have not made up my mind. (I always thought that band's music wasn't very good, btw!) Have done technical support for Inet for years and am familiar with the errors and how to deal with them. The bad part is that the Dump file can not be read, making it harder to figure out what the issue is. There also must be an issue between MC, the sound card (MAudio 1010LE) and the midi keyboard (Pxygen 61) ... if I play the Arturia Jupiter 8 software directly with the keyboard I get great sounds .. and no issue whatsover. But if I do it via the MC5, the keyboard is full of scratches and pops and other bad issues. I have made a report of it to Arturia and am awaiting more information on how they want me to scope out the issue, which would suggest there is something in MC that is not talking somewhere for it to interfere with the process so badly ... it has to be wrong if it messes up with the programs output. I'm almost thinking that MC doesn't like ASIO, and is the first time I have seen anything like this. Even Ableton Live 7 LE didn't mess up with the software like that! And Willy, at home says I had an email from you and it is not showing on my inbox in the private messages!

I think I can help you solve this problem. this is likely due to your latency buffers. when going thru the host (MC) you are likely to get more popping/clicking and even dropout where you wouldn't get that normally with the standalone program. in ASIO driver mode, you change your latency buffers in the m-audio softpanel. if you have MC open, click on the ASIO button at the bottom of the screen in the OPTIONS>AUDIO window. that will bring up your m-audio software (you MUST bring it up using the ASIO button inside MC and NOT directly from the systray!). then go to the HARDWARE tab and change the buffers to something higher than what it has.

Agree with Beagle. Sounds very much like a latency buffers set up problem.

Really, I am no expert on some of this stuff but you have to be willing to hang in there to find out what is causing the problems. Throwing your hands up and uninstalling the program doesn't solve anything. To me it sounds like compatability issues that simply need resolving. Get the techs from cake involved too. Try the latency buffers settings. MC is designed to work well with ASIO drivers so I would use them.

Pedro, did you do a dumpcheck on that dmp file? I was having a similar problem in Vista and with Sonar HSXL6 several months ago.... crashed and crashed and crashed, and I never did figure out why.... but the .dmp files were pointing to fatal errors in Sonar. In the end, though, I'm positive that it was my old system (it was Vista, btw, not XP) and/or a corrupted drive. But still, this and/or a related article on XP dumpcheck may help troubleshoot:( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315263) Don't give up on us, Mosh... :)

Also the fact that stand alone synth software plays means nothing for MC5, which is a sequencer and there fore brings several elememnts together that can conflict.

MFC80U.dll appears to be a Microsoft Visual Studio library. What might be worth trying is to download CCleaner and use it to scan your registry and correct any problems. (It will prompt you to create a Registry backup.) It's donation-ware so try it and donate if it works. http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download At the worst you'll have cleaned a load of c... out of your registry anyway. Phil

This computer had a fresh install of XP-Pro, and it doesn't do browsing or email and has no programs in it whatsoever except about 10 to 11 vst's that I usually download off another computer on the network and bring it over on a CD or via the network. The only install it has had and then taken down, was for Abelton Live 7LE and then IK Multimedia's Miroslav Classik. This last one was bugged senseless and had half the features in it disabled. Abelton LIve worked great, had no issues with the ASIO or any of the VST's at ALL! I basically took it down because it was way too big and I could not manage it yet and the two people that I hired for instruction could only show me how to do the dj thing on a saturday night bar half drunk which I was not interested in! They did not know how to use the program as a musician or artist at all! I thought I would try something simpler, and finally settled on MC5 after so many folks here on the board. And Cakewalk folks ... like all the others so far .. non-existant, no replies to emails ... nothing. The only thing I have gotten is the help from the finest folks in any board I have ever seen ... the highest class of folks around! And lovely too! And the Cakewalk folks are not even reading these boards, and checking out what is going on with their very own software! Cakewalk has been around for a long time and successfully i might add. For someone who claims to do tech support you sure are quick to toss out any suggestions. If you are really a computer guy you would know that software acts differently on almost every computer. Since no two systems are the same it is a fair assumption that it takes special care to install something as complex as DAW software. All research i have done on this shows it to be a system problem that relates to one or more files that are conflicting, so you have to be willing to do the work to solve it. The fine support folks at Cake are willing to help, but you have to give them something to help you with. You from your post count you have been around here a while, so you know the drill. The problem is a documented problem, and it can relate to many different programs, so it is not a cakewalk bug or issue. Just because you recently re-installed windows does not exclude the possibility that you had a virus or worm that is still hidden on a newly formatted drive. Or maybe you have a bad install of Windows, or it could be a bad plug in. MC5 installed and ran flawlessly on my system. As it does for most everyone i have ever spoke to here. 95% of the severe problem we see here are pilot error. Why don't you 1. post your specs on your system, and 2. follow up on a few of the suggestion here and see. This way we can all pitch in and see if this won't get better.

To be clear, these forums are for Cakewalk users, not a support platform for our customers. To all the very wonderful forum members who help everyday - thank you. Our technical support team is very busy and does everything they can to provide assistance to all customers. I'm not saying we're perfect, but we are certainly doing our best with the resources (read: number of people) we have. I am sorry that you are frustrated, and that you feel as though we're not giving your problem the attention it needs. If you have an email thread with Willy please be sure to send him the crash dump file (if you still have it). I feel your pain Samara, it is difficult to respond to every issue when the users does not want to put forth the effort to resolve the problem. When we really get down to it think of the amazing thing we are asking this and any DAW software to do, and we want it flawless. All software has bugs, nothing is perfect, and in this environment it is critical that we understand the complexity of what we do here. We can not expect miricles from people who are not seeing our screen, nor do they have any idea what else we do with our computers. I remember a guy a few months or even a year back who had serious issues with his system, and could not get it to do anything. After several of us tried to help he became frustrated and angry. I offered to use crossloop and log onto his computer from mine and go carefully thru his setup and see if I could solve his problem, he declined and went away. Sure i understand the reluctance of someone letting a stranger have control of their computer, but really what could i do? All he has to do is click on quit and i am logged off. Sometimes (and I am not directing this at the OP of this thread) people want to fuss and worry more than they want to record. Pedro, if you are still listening don't be one of those. What ever software you use persevere and see it through. There is a world of enjoyment in this for use music junkies.

When we really get down to it think of the amazing thing we are asking this and any DAW software to do, and we want it flawless. In general, from software/hardware support, most errors are pretty much a part of one OS only, not 2 or 3. Rarely will you see the same DLL error on 3 or 4 versions of Windows for example, because the DLL file has been updated. changed and renamed! If that is not done the continuity and further development of software gets hung up on a file version that is not compatible with that version of the program! ... and any DAW software to do, and we want it flawless. .. It feels like a suggestion that I wouldn't want it flawless. I might as well not post and take the software back to the store? It's pretty simple the whole concept. If you want customers on a store, Safeway, or steak for dinner tonight, you don't wait for 5 days before you say anything! ... or your significant other, or you, is going right down the road and get the steak that you want for dinner. So, if support, is not capable, of handling, or at least be polite and helpful enough to state what more they want in specific, they are probably prioritizing things, and I'm on the low end, because I did not spend 500 dollars for Sonar XTCSEX version! I don't mind being last on the order of things. I do mind when there is not enough responsibility or respect to say ... hold on please, I'll be with you asap! ... and you know it, and you would expect it also! So, drop the ****! ... Pedro, if you are still listening don't be one of those. What ever software you use persevere and see it through. There is a world of enjoyment in this for use music junkies. I do, and I beta test some software now and then. But it's difficult when some of these admins spend their time advertising instead of making sure things are right! It's the customers that make you the money, and you have to make a decision inside if you want the business or you want your ideas. And not all your ideas are market'able ... well, in this day and age some advertising helps, but you know all about that! Based on good will alone, I am not even sure I want to re-install this thing again and try it. Even Willy has not responded! I'm sure he is busy, not a doubt there, and you think that he or anyone else would bat an eyelash and say what a pain he is, if it were your child or daughter or mate? Sometimes we have to grow up. Sometimes we have to own up. Sometimes we have to swallow our pride. Sometimes we win. Sometimes we lose. But there is one thing ... that matters above it all ... and it has no excuses whatsoever, and will never be reproached ... your effort, your love and your care. And how you deal with it is what makes you the best you can be! You decide! Or in this case ... Cakewalk, where do you stand? ... yeah ... I can hear some CSR's moaning and groaning and saying things under their breath ... after all, I also work in a call center for a cable company! In the end, it's what is inside you and how much you care ... and I can tell you, that you won't find a better person in helping customers than me, when I get to talk to them! No excuses, no talk ... or as what's his name used to say ... show me the money! You have to perform! It's really simple!

Hi Pedro, I can't find any record of you contacting either technical support or customer service with the email address associated to your forum account. If you did contact us can you please send me a private message with the email address you provided so we can look into it? Also - please check any junk or spam mail folders as often our replies do get eaten by aggressive filters. Even Willy has not responded! I'm sorry - but I never received an email from you. I was only alerted to this thread by another forum member. My apologies in advance for any inconveniences.

Pedro i certainly mean you no disrespect, and i would love to help you get this solved. Now it is obvious that you are not a newbie, you have good solid equipment, and software, and you have been around for a while, but still with your time here and experience you should know how things are here, and understand the system by now. I have been helping and and hanging around here for over 6 years, and i have seen hundreds of different people come thru here that had all kinds of sundry problems, and i have to say very few of them were because the program was deeply flawed. I would say, and i believe all the other regulars here would agree 95% of them were due to problems that the poster had with their personal computer. Most were solved rather easily, but a few took a lot of work to solve. Every now and again someone comes thru with not only a problem, but an attitude that makes it hard to help them. You came in here complaining, but had already removed the software from the computer. How do you expect anything to happen that way. I understand the complaining, and i am not saying that MC or cake for that reason of any flavor, does not have a few bugs and issues. However do you expect anything to get better without a little patience. Literally hundreds to thousands of folks load this software up every month around the world and they do not have the issue you have. I have been thru 4 different computers over the last 10 years, and 5 different versions of cakewalk, and after 6 years of helping folks on this forum, never seen your issue. So i have to come to the conclusion that it is not a cakewalk MC5 bug or problem. Something on your system is in conflict with cakewalks MC5. AS the research i did shows that problem can exist with just about any software, and just about any OS. Add to that that Cake has no record of your e-mail request, for whatever reason, it is clear you need to be patient and see things thru. In all my experience with this program, and the other programs i either use, or have used, that patience is the cornerstone of this hobby, or vocation. I had to suffer for almost a year when i started due to my computer not being up to the task. I had to rebuild, upgrade, and endure until i could put together a system that was up to the task. The biggest jump in ability came with the purchase of a true recording sound card. I also found that if i had an issue with one program it very likely would translate to other programs as well. My final point is that if you dial down the anger and frustration, and dig in and listen, show patience you can have a running system and a ton of fun. Or you can stay mad and miss out. Really it is your choice. We welcome you to join us and hang in there.

I'm talking to M-Audio first ... there appears to be an issue with the ASIO that might ... might ... be an issue with MC5 ... we're logging it to take a peak at. There is also something with the communication in MC5 with VSt's that is a problem. On my Jupiter 8 software I have keys setup on it, and mapped with the Midi board (M-Audio Oxygen 61 - the VCO's and FLO's and other functions) and it looks like MC5 doesn't like the key settings at all ... if I take the key settings out, I can play on the VST, but not on the midi board, and that would suggest there is an issue with the generic drivers that MC5 is providing. This, I seriously doubt is an issue with the OS ... to give you an idea. The preview thing I have not had a chance to check it. It's beyond me why something like that can not be automatic and has to be adjusted. I hope that when I use a different VST I don't have to change the settings again? At which point I would say the program is the issue and is not completely compatible with the M-Audio sound card. Might be an issue with Arturia's software, and I haven't checked that yet. Thx. I'll try it again this weekend (I work 9 to 6 West Coast) and hope that we can figure this out. One weird thing ... why does the MC program have to "load" any of the previews? It's just a simple midi file and doesn't need to be "loaded" by listing the module/file on the above section? That seems a bit weird ... when previews should not have to be a part of the program at all ... and that section on the bottom would suggest that it would do that, but it doesn't! It would make much more sense to just be able to double-click on one of them and you can hear it ... but you can't. Error time and the program locks up! All in all, what I am not happy with is the fact that compatibility is an issue and I can understand why ... too much out there ... but it's not like M-Audio sound cards or midi boards are made by some small company out there in the South Pole south of Argentina? And there are not exactly 1575.249873420981349087 midi keyboards out there to write drivers for! (Had to borrow some Bapu here!) I know I'm weird, but at least I know I am not the only one!

if I take the key settings out, I can play on the VST, but not on the midi board, and that would suggest there is an issue with the generic drivers that MC5 is providing. but MC doesn't provide ANY drivers of any kind. it only reads drivers from windows. Might be an issue with Arturia's software, and I haven't checked that yet. that's more likely than a problem with m-audio drivers. there are MANY people (including Robo and myself) using m-audio drivers with MC without problems. I haven't seen it loading anything in the preview except the VSTi's. It does have to load the VSTi's in order to allow the MIDI files to be played. but at least I know I am not the only one! but that's what we keep telling you - there aren't others having these problems you're describing, so it must be something to do with YOUR system or your useage.
