Internet Explorer 8 causes Machfive to hang Cakewalk plugin manager

I have discovered that Motu Machfive and Machfive2 will hang the cakewalk plugin manager during validation if Internet Explorer 8 is installed. This happens on both XP SP3 and Windows 7 x64. Trawling through the internet I have found similar problems being mentioned with Motu Symphonic Instrument, and Digidesign Pro-tools (not with Sonar of course).
 
Hangups occur in the installers of these products as well, or whenever any attempt is made to load as a VST. DXI's don't register properly.
 
As all these products use I-Lok dongles I suspect the problem lays there somewhere.
 
There are 2 solutions:-
 
1) Uninstall IE8 and use something else.
 
2) Make the following registry change:-
 

a) Using Regedit browse to HKEY_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Currentversion\Internet Settings
 
b) In the left hand pane right click and choose add a new Dword.
 
c) Name the Dword   AllowCookies
 
d) Doubleclick on it and enter a value of 1
 
e) Close Regedit.
 

There may be implications with cookie handling with this, but it does solve the problem.

I intend to pass this on to the relevant Tech Support people.

When IE8 first came out it broke a lot of things, including Pro Tools (and in some cases, SONAR). There was a thread about it. Digidesign offered the registry edit you quoted as a workaround.

However, this particular problem isn't really Microsoft's fault, but rather the result of the plugin vendor's oversight.  If the validator requires cookies, it should first test if cookies are allowed and if not, tell the user to enable them and retry. Just letting it hang is very bad form.

I was never really blaming Microsoft, I-Lok seems to be the culprit. I've wasted several weeks over this since I migrated to Sonar 8.5 and Win 7 x64 Ultimate. I thought it was a problem with new OS, it was only when I created an XP SP3 system and got the same problem that I realised the problem was deeper than that.

Before then I nearly ended up junking Machfive2 and spending a lot of money on a new sampler, I'm glad I didn't. Just wish I could get on with making music instead of wasting time on issues like this, but I guess that is the price of installing new technology.

Overall, so far I've been impressed with the Sonar 8.5 windows 7 Ultimate 64 combination.

Beejeh don't sweat it.

It's a good reminder, if folk are having weird issues it may not technically be IE8's fault but having it on my system affected my USB modem, several old apps that I regularly use and an audio driver installer.

I don't have any of these issues since with the simple removal of IE8 being the remedy. (Simple removal meaning I ended up having to re-install the OS)

Nothing else has impacted on my system ever as badly as IE8 did whatever the underlying cause not having it installed makes for a happy system here at least.
