Sonic State - SONAR X1 Exclusive First Look Enjoy! Robin Thanks for that, Robin. Every tidbit of info helps at this point ;) I think the extensive work done on the features you all have divulged so far are truly exciting! I am lowering my expectations a bit in general as we now know that some areas have not been 'touched' YET. That's ok. I think this is the start of a brand new Sonar saga, and one that will have a good future. I know I'll be upset about a few things (like no Matrix updates yet, etc) -- but I want to make clear that I am very excited and look forward to 12/8 release date. Usually I want time to slow down ...but in this case, 12/8 could hurry ;) Kudos.

Nice vid, still waiting to hear the ProChannel in action being tweaked
Sadly very reduced studio equipment as it is... ASUS G750J, 8 gb RAM, Win8, Roland Quad Capture.

The video was cool :) Gotta love the track n bus Pro-chns (Producer exclusive), and FX'chains along with the enhanced workflow. Now about those new key-commands ~ maybe you could shed some details on that soon? The Skylight color looks more blue on that monitor in that video compared to the brownish/gray (as seen on CW website), I much prefer the blue/gray. QUESTION: Does X1 (Producer, Studio and Essential) include; quick adjustment of the overall UI appearance such as; Hue/color, Brightness and Contrast controls?

ba_midi I am lowering my expectations a bit in general as we now know that some areas have not been 'touched' YET. Oddly, I am too. After seeing the UI in action I think it's great and eagerly anticipated but there's no major under the hood features so I'm downgrading to "enthused". I hope they zapped a few of the little things we've been kvetching about, that would be sweet.

I'm curious, is Brandon wearing his T-shirt inside out because it's stylish, or because the image on it was not suitable for the video? I'm looking forward to the upgrade too. I'll be installing a a brand new system that will bring me up to speed in both hardware and OS. I hope the change from WinXP to Win7, and upgrade from my humble Core Duo desktop and Pentium-M laptop, will start the new year off with thrills. Thanks Brandon, you're a great guy! (You too, Robin!)

dburns I'm curious, is Brandon wearing his T-shirt inside out because it's stylish, or because the image on it was not suitable for the video? Actually that's the way the shirt is made. Figured I'd clear that up. And thanks! There's a few more of these type video interview things coming next week so stay tuned if you're interested. I don't think they'll be entirely redundant as I show some different various little tidbits in each one. So the content of each is a bit different (I hope!). We'll also have some new SONAR X1: Get Started videos showing up in the next week or so. My hope is that once all of you actually receive your shiny new SONAR X1 that you'll have some videos to turn to for initial assistance and maybe a dose of inspiration.

Will there be some demo audio files for the ProChannel? The GUI is pretty, but that won't be enough, we need to hear it. Thanks. PS: It was nice of you to listen to the users. No more bloating, but focusing more on workflow, stability and functionality. Continue in that manner.

Apparently the project file and all recordings of that Cori Whatsherface song from the promo video come with Producer edition. Not my kind of thing musically, but will no doubt be a very interesting project to take a look at.

That market may be important to CW (and I guess it is) but the "energy" in the market (to use a political term) is moving away from that.

I don't think that's really the point. She can sing properly, has good mic technique, and has obviously been recorded well, as has the rest of the backing. And if you've got the full project, with plug ins and settings, rather than just a final mix, there's a lot of great stuff to study. Even if you're a pure electronic music person, I reckon there's there's more to learn about mixing from something like that than a folder full of loops. It's all still the same stuff; low end sounds, mid range sounds, vocal sounds, use of reverb, use of compression, etc etc. But if you've got a DAW project file, you can examine all the decisions that have been made in detail. When I did my engineering course many many years ago, the two core study mixes were Son Of A Preacher Man and Billie Jean. And the tutor made the point form the outset that views on the songs themselves were irrelevant in his classroom. One of many very useful things he taught me, that.

Yea, it's like in the UAD videos they always (at least to me and my taste) use the lamest sounding bands and vocalists. But that's just me. They get their point across. And you hear the plugs working. I don't think there is any one genre or style that Cake or UAD or anyone else for that matter could put in their videos that EVERYONE would like;-)

But I must add that there really is a difference in the methods used for different genres, but I think none more so than electronica (using that term broadly). However, yes I agree that being able to study the 'decisions' within a project does present an opportunity to learn regardless of genre.

But the decisions made about which to "present" or put out as the "face of" the product does signal a marketing direction. If the preview video contained a number of styles/genres I think that would make a different statement.

Yes that would be quite impossible to do. I guess they chose a genre to demonstrate some things and I think it does that very well. Very interested to see the Project within X1. That should be interesting.

It does tend to showcase most of what Sonar is capable of, unliike other genres like metal for example, where only a small subset of features could be demonstrated properly.
