Some crashing -- probaby my system, but ...

ALL I did to get this crash was to load up the 'normal.cwt' ... then I used the browser to load a tutorial file.

It is a bundle, but I decided not to do that yet, so I clicked on CANCEL.

BOOM ... crashola.

I see this is gonna be fun ;)

And, you still have to open SOMETHING before you can open something LOL

IOW, you can't just start using the new Browser until you at least have SOME project/template open.

That's kind of old thinking isn't it?

    Hi Billy,

Sorry you are having trouble. Been running Sonar X1 for about 8 hours now with not one crash nor problem. Can you reproduce?

X1 has been fantastic thus far minus a few minor graphic glitches.  its taking a bit to get use to but I am really liking the changes!

    best,

Billy, don't worry, after the normal 2 updates to fix your crashing that won't fix anything, you'll be able to upgrade at this time next year to X1.5 for the super low rate of just $99 + $99.99 if you want the DVD's shipped to you. I'm basing the DVD rate of increase off what it was this time around. $8.95 to $29.99.

Just kidding Billy. I'm sure it's nothing wrong with X1, it has to be something with your hardware. You may need to upgrade or get a professional system from Studiocat.

    LJB ... that was hilarious!

    All in good fun.

Well I'm not trying to be a debugger yet.  I'm just trying to learn my way around it all.

There are no experts here yet, if ya know what I mean ;)

Bapu was right in the "This changes everything" groove.

Not everything has changed, but the way we will interact with X1 is very different in many ways than 8.x so this is going to take time.

Crashes are crashes though.  I rarely crash in 8.5.3.  And I mean rarely.

And one could say this is to be expected in a 1.0 version of a new release.  It's just not cute ;)

Well, I'm now up to 6 full crashes in a 24 hour period - even though I've only been using the program (meaning running it) less than a total of 4 hours.

Not a good start in that regard.

I'm trying to learn the new things and not doing anything esoteric at all yet.  Looking at tracks, clicking on things, etc...  but 6 crashes already?

I haven't had that many crashes in a year with 8.x.

    I'm worried now.

I don't think it's system related, but here are my specs anyway:

Intel Quad-Core 2.4GZH CPU, 4G RAM (dual channel), Multiple SATA drives, MOTU Ultralite MKiii with the latest drivers, ASUS P5B Plus Mboard.
    Anything I left out?

    Of course, lots of controllers.

I had a crash too, and a few times my audio engine just went dead, had to restart the project. Not sure yet what the cause is, could of been something with the sonitus eq in an old project and then i used the pro channel then I lost audio . That was 1 time the other times I dont recall, I was click happy.

    Billy,

try this. Re-save a second copy (not over the original) of whatever you are working on with x1 and see if you have any problems. Ive seen glitches go away once I committed my normal.tpl and test stuff to an x1 save.

So far, 15 hours, no crashes, nothing.. Did have a few visual glitches but since I resaved my default normal and did some minor tweaks, everything's been well.

Just to crash (sorry..) this thread. I've had several crashes within the last 12 hours. I don't see it as too bad as 8.5.3 was never that stable for me.

Scott, I've actually just done all that.  And working on the 'new' NORMAL.CWT (saved from the previous 8.5.3) continues to do strange things.

I'm up to 8 crashes in total now.   Just changing screensets gave me an "Out Of Memory" error.

I'm feeling quite a bit stressed on this now.   I'm not sure how to approach this.   I'm thinking of uninstalling and reinstalling - but my intial install went without a hitch, so I suspect there's more to this story.

But this is not fun now.

Just to crash (sorry..) this thread. I've had several crashes within the last 12 hours. I don't see it as too bad as 8.5.3 was never that stable for me.
The entire 8.x releases were very stable for me, though - and 8.5.3 was extremely stable for me.

I'm not feelin' good at the moment about these crashes.

Sonar has always crashed at least once a day for me. If I could be bothered to buy a new interface to give reaper a spin on a different machine I would. But these updates are always at the end of the year for Sonar, And I'd rather look foward to Christmas than a new DAW....
