Silent Busses Detected
Recently upgraded with a new system. When I open a project in X1 I get a dialog box with the Window Caption of "Silent Buses Detected". The body of the dialog says the following: The following tracks and buses are currently assigned to a silent hardware output. The items listed below will be silent in your project until their outputs are reassigned to an appropriate hardware output. Then there is a list of buses which contains one item: Master I pick Ok the project opens and the Master Bus appears to be assigned and if I hit "play" everything seems to be working fine. Is this just an annoyance or do I have a problem? Thanks,

It means one or more of your buses are not out putting to a hardware out. This could mean that you have a project that had other buses with them going directly out to an out you no longer have. Or to buses that are now unsigned an out. Check all your buses to see what they are out putting to. Once you have all the buses set save the project.

The project was set up as a test. There are three audio tracks and one bus, Master. The Master bus is assigned to the correct device and I'm monitoring sound. If I save, close project, open project I will get the same dialog. The Master bus will still be assigned to the correct device and I will still be able to playback and monitor the tracks. Does this make sense? Thanks for the response.

Something isn't right. You should not get the silent dialog if you have no silent buses or tracks. Are you sure you have nothing hidden?

I got this message a couple of times like when I loaded the Cori Yarckin demo song but I think it was simply that that song/project had no idea which device I had. Once I spec'd the device on the bus it was good to go. I don't why it would keep happening.

John Have any of you changed your audio hardware? Are you up to date on the X1 patches? My DAW is new, I'm in the process of configuring it. My RME unit is a few weeks old but was running on my old DAW fine. Yes up to date on patches (a, b) except for the QuickFix. I've looked pretty hard for busses and all I can find are Master, Metronome and Preview. Metronome and Preview are assigned to Master. I have tried reassigning Master and it doesn't seem to have any effect. As I said originally this really is a test project to work through issues with my system so the project is exceedingly simple and straight forward. Also how come I can hear something that is silent? I'm not having any trouble monitoring...in fact everything sounds fantastic. Thanks again,

Hi Mike- Are any of your tracks (mis-)assigned directly to an output, by any chance? I don't have X1, but I seem to remember a similar message in 8.5.3, and the culprit wasn't the Master at all, but one of my tracks instead. -Susan

I was getting this message from an older track created with sonar 8 or something. Somehow there was some old sends set up that I removed and the message went away. The track was audible the whole time though!! Weird. Check and see if there are some rogue sends in the project.

Hi Susan Yes I revisited all of the sends on the tracks (there's only 3) and they are all going to Master. I did notice that all of the Inputs were unassigned so I did assign them. No help there. It may be worth noting that the audio tracks are some imported CW supplied REX loops. I'm going to give a go again tomorrow with a new project and recorded audio see if that solves it. Thanks for the response.

miguelito Hi digi2ns, Yes I'm pretty sure the audio device is turned on that's why I can hear it. Or can I? Thanks. My bad I missed/skipped over the more indepth post that you can hear it. My other suggestion would have been to recheck the assignments on the tracks and busses. Mine have changed before for what ever reasons unknown but I still think I had to back all the way out before and relaunch X1 to get it to work. Curious to see what ya come up with

I hate to say it, but I'm getting the same error message and everything is working fine. It's reporting errors that don't exist. I never got this prior to installing the quick fix patch. If I remember correctly, this is an error listed as being fixed by the quick fix patch. I think I've had an unintended consequence. Is there a roll back thread???

As with almost all the SONAR patches there is no rollback. Have to do a complete uninstall including registry edits and reinstall to the update you want.

My apologies. There is an undo for this patch as there was for the Hotfix. For the hotfix they explained that it was simple to undo as the only file changed was "sonarprd.exe" This is what Cakewalk says about the Quickfix: "Backup & Recovery The QuickFix installer will automatically backup your existing SONAR installation, the default location will be 'C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\SONAR VERSION\Backup\DATE\Version_Build.Number' If for any reason you need to restore to X1b you can do so by replacing the files in your installation directory with the ones found in the Backup folder" The only file in the back up folder is "sonarprd.exe" They could say that instead of saying there's a backup of your existing SONAR installation.

Why not just route to a muted bus then? I get the OPs issue intermittently, and as noted, it's a false alarm. Seems to be specific to certain projects, so I assume some kind of corruption happend somewhere along the way.

Check if your Master bus has any sends assigned to "None" since that would also trigger this. There is a Cakewalk.ini flag that can be used to suppress this warning. Go into Preferences | Initialization file, add a variable called WarnSilentBuses and set it to 0. If you can't find the source of the silent bus upload a project and I can look at it.

@ osd: Routing to a muted bus is a really good idea - Thank You! @ Noel: Thank you! No, all is well with my template. I have a split bus setup that uses the sends only. Intentional, thus the silent bus. - I can't wait to change the ini file. Going to do that right now. This has been annoying to me for a while. Going to miss that alert box, we have some good times together. :)

I got this warning a few times. It happened when switching sample rates for different projects. I would switch the sample rate for the AI and would restart Sonar. The only problem was, I forgot to power off then power on the AI before I restarted Sonar.

I have seen this warning also. I have it popping up on the screen all the time with 1 project. I just ignore it, as it doesn't mess with anything. I can also reproduce this at will, whether in an existing project or a completely new one. All you have to do is set up a send to anywhere, then remove it. Save your project, close it and reopen it. The error message will popup warning you about "Silent Buses Detected". Is this what you're all talking about? @ Noel Thanks for the "ini" tip! Much appreciated.
