X2 - "Too many plugins" warning
SONAR X2 is there, we have a reworked UI, all is fine. BUT one old and annoying thing remains: The stupid warning that one has too many plugins installed to fit into the menus. When will this silly limitation finally be resolved? I know of no other modern DAW that has such a limitation.

Two reasons. 1. Actually too many plugs installed 2. You have duplicates vsts somewhere. I'd start with Rapture (since this does install with Producer) and/or Dim Pro (in case you reinstalled). Note: 32 bit "seems" to allow less than 64 bit. Not proven scientifically, just a feeling I get.

Well, I have to ask the "64" thousand dollar question. How many plugins do have installed? Especially third party plugins.

The "too many" warning is an undocumented feature, born of wisdom. Your signature should list the total, and number of each type, you have installed. We will then all be in awe. And we will also wonder why you spend way too much of your life collecting stuff you cannot possible use. And so on.

My question was quite serious: Why still such a limitation if all other DAWs have none?

I know you were/are serious. My facetiousness notwithstanding, you are wasting your life collecting what you will never use. Stuff requires space, time, and attention. Every bit of stuff costs at least 10 times the original price. And since there is no such thing as "Free," each thing will use more than 10 times the amount of life you use to aquire it. To paraphrase a bit, "Be careful what you aquire. The more you have the less you get to do with any of it."

synkrotron jm24 To paraphrase a bit, "Be careful what you aquire. The more you have the less you get to do with any of it." +1 to that statement :-D I admit my list of acquired plugs is greater than what I use on a daily basis by about a factor of 76.9886765765. TBH my "too many plugs" errors cam about (mostly) due to mono and stereo versions of many plugs (UAD being the biggest list) and initially some freebies that I (gasp) never really used. However (here comes the justification) I buy a lot so that as I collab I have available to me nearly anything anyone could throw at me in a .cwp/.cwb without having to imagine what they might have done as a starting point. That includes all the Pro Channel modules even though I may not necessarily think of them as my go to plugs. jm24 And we will also wonder why you spend way too much of your life collecting stuff you cannot possible use. I find that statement funny as the time required to collect any plug amounts to minutes not hours, days or weeks. The time to collect my extensive list of plugs is probably on the order or 24-48 hours of actual work since 2006.

I have 506 plus Sonitus/DXI,or all of X2's stock/PC plugs. I deleted all my UAD mono and light versions (I have 2 UAD-2 Quads so light an mono are not typically required).
I seem to get the message when I accidentally install a duplicate plug (same plug two locations). You'll ask how can you do that? Well, I had a "install location configuration" error on a plug and so on an update the new version was installed in a different location than the previous version. Once sorted out the error went away. Someone once say they believed the error would occur with either 512 or 600+ plugs. I don't recall which number it was or maybe there were two different speculations.

The new search-function in the browser also makes it even more justified to have many plugins (and stuff in general) since things now are so easy to find

Gregmang Have you all missed the point ? Who CARES how many plug-ins a user has ? The issue is why does Sonar complain about it ? Is there some way to disable the message ? +1 It's really easy to max it out these days I'd have thought with all the suites available. The plug-manager ought to be able to cope the original question is completely valid. When will this silly limitation be addressed? It's been cropping up on this board for several years so some people are bumping into it, it doesn't need a defence, it needs and explanation or better still a solution.

pwal does the limit have a number? Again, someone once said something on the order of 500-600. But I too have never found anyone from CW to give that exact number, They usually just say "use the plugin manager".

pwal does the limit have a number? IIRC, it depends, is about as conclusive a figure that has been found so far. I'm pretty sure it's around the 800 mark including any and all the DX(i)'s and VST(i)'s you have installed. One of those mega Waves bundles alone must take a big chunk out of that.

In my opinion, the plugin manager is no real solution, since it introduces the need for manual maintenance when new plugins are added.

Everything has a limit at some point.... and with plugs.... every one you add requires a certain amount of processing power to allow it to run properly and in real time. When the computer's ability to keep everything running has been exceeded..... you might get such a warning. Personally, I have never seen that kind of warning because I try to use as few plugs as possible and use busses for plugs that will span several tracks. You might want to rethink how and why you are using a certain plug.
