updates
Couple worthy updates. Jamorigin has updated their midi guitar software to beta 0.93. For my setup, this has been the best improvement in tracking and response. Still a ways to go but this was a major step forward. http://www.jamorigin.com/midi-guitar/ Hideaway studios has done an upgrade to their Orbitone library, basically a new add-on to the first Orbitone with new samples and presets, and presets that merge both libraries. I consider Orbitone to be one of their best efforts so far. Soundclips are impressive. Note that Orbitone II has to have Orbitone I installed to work. http://hideawaystudio.wordpress.com/ Cheers, John

Thanks John. I've been having problems with Jamorigin 0.91/ASIO driver (apparently not recognizing ASIO type of error) in Win8x64 and Win8x32 stand alone. I could however get it to work in WMD mode, but would like to use my Line6/Toneport DI ASIO as that's my interface. I was just about to purchase the full version, but not if I can't get it to work. Scook suggested I try it in Sonar, but I haven't (yet, as I'm on the Beta version as it times out regularly) and would like to see it working in stand alone first. Maybe 0.93 might work.....will DL it tonight and see. I'd love to trigger some of the presets from OT Samples "Rick". :)

Mesh, Hope this works for you in win 8. It is far more accurate here than the previous betas but still running win XP. Definitely run it in the vst mode to take advantage of Sonar working out the ASIO link. The Hideaway Orbitone server was swamped last night but got the Orbitone II library today. Comes out to a bit over $13 and has to be about the best $13 investment in a long time. One of those times that the real thing sounds better than the demo sound clips. Best, John

Hey Mesh or anyone else out there, Never used the midi guitar software as a standalone, but fired it up and tried to use the Line 6 Toneport ASIO drivers. Couldn't get it to work in win XP without resorting to non ASIO drivers like you experienced. Can get it working fine running as a vst plugin within the cloak of a generic DAW program. This should be a more desirable option for anything live or recorded, better than the standalone in any case. Offers a lot more flexibility. Jamorigin in Sonar is way cool. You don't need the standalone if you got Sonar. The standalone is just redundant and really useless. Smarter and more educated minds than me may have better input however. John

If getting the standalone version is important, try contacting Jam Origins directly. The product is in beta and they are pretty responsive to problem reports. At least, they were quick to acknowledge my email and fixed the issue I reported in the next release.

Scook, I'm probably missing something here. If we got Sonar, Reaper, and the vst version functions well, what are the benefits of having a standalone program. What's it good for if we have a viable host DAW? I know many heavy weights, Amplitube, Guitar Rig have standalones. I have never used them thinking that they are just excess disc space wasted. John reread your post and saw the "if". Maybe you don't need the standalone as well. Are there any benefits to having any standalone program if you have a dedicated DAW? I can't find a single advantage to be gained...

Yeah, that was a pretty big IF (more for those unable to use MIDI Guitar at all). I have no problems with either standalone or VST. At one point the standalone would crash if my interface was not powered up. I reported it and it was fixed in the next release. I do use the standalone when I just want to play around but could live without it. For some the standalone is the only way to get the product to work with their DAW.

I have to admit that I had a misconception view on standalone (S.A.) and thought it should first work in S.A. before working in a DAW. I generally fireup my POD Farm software and noodle around a bit before starting X2/recording, so I expected midi guitar to do the same. Thanks guys for totally clearing that up and John, I'm glad to see you tested it with your Toneport as well..... Hopefully, I'll have some time tonight to run it through X2 and get ready to purchase. Are there any special settings/routings in Sonar that need to be enabled for midi guitar to work? Thanks again guys!!
