You know I really don't care what others think about this forum. I only care what I think about it.

I'm sure that Oprah would approve of this message.

It's all behind the scenes.....

Ok... last one for me... for a while... But be warned: any "20-40%" reference from this point forward necessitates a retaliatory "Oprah" reference...

And according to the coders and devs over at the pig-pile that is the Cake forums right now,(bold mine) there are a bunch of core improvements to the audio handling, that it is more efficient now and has no effective limitations to size.

Well, as the maker of said comment, it was meant in jest. Pig-pile meaning that there are just an alarming amount of threads being started and buried. And, come on, that 6000 thread thing was a total pig-pile. There have been more members on these boards in the past week than probably ever. Hence pig-pile. And, you know, if you like piles of writhing bodies pig-piles can be good things.

I'm glad that person doesn't frequent this forum. I think most people can just from the tone and what they said, the value of the comment.

As for what I think of this forum,,, Top Shelf.

Yeah, hate to break it to ya, but I check in here frequently.

Despite my low post count, I've been around here since the newsgroup days, so I think I'm allowed to make a few jokes at the expense of an online software forum.

Do, I think we Sonar users get a little clubby? Sure. And I like hearing how other people work which is why I prefer spending time on other forums. But, you know, go ahead and mock me. I've got a pretty thick skin and don't take too much too seriously.

And, come on, don't you see the irony in this?

Thanks for getting my back, Keith.

Though I'm a relative n00b on this forum, I think it's safe to say,
Actually, I think the Sonar forum has gone downhill. A year or so ago I thought it was the most useful music-production related forum out there
that the downfall of this forum correlates negatively to the enourmous rise in CJ's post count!!! I think the time is right for a good ole' medieval witch hunt !!!

Personally, I've seen a lot of changes here over the past 3 years or so. And not all of them good. A lot of very knowledgeable and expert users left here because it changed for the worse, and their absence is felt by many. We used to have some amazing discussions that hit on the top-end of music production, the real inner workings. We don't get that so much any more.

RE: what others think of this forum 2007/09/22 22:45:00 (permalink)
Hey guys

First off I would rather have a train wreck of a forum than one that is like a police state (cubase bless em)

The thing i find really interesting about all this is that you can almost profile people based on the software they use. I love Sonar, really do, probably because after years of struggling to translate my creativity in Cubase I came to Sonar as a last ditch effort before giving it all up and taking up Macrame. I guess my fierce loyalty to it is through the sheer gratitude that came from the realization it was not me who was useless, it was that the software i had been using did not gel with me.

I don't think software is bad or good I think its about you work creatively and how you approach the world. I think that Sonar users (and the company Cakewalk, for that matter) are all optimists and positive creative people who have huge amounts of passion and enthusiasm about what they do, and that sometimes bubbles over into a bit of a mess in the forum, but i love it. What we have here for better or for worse is a community, yes there are some characters, CJ and Jinga please take a bow, but they add to the flavor of this forum and make it a fun place to come.

I mainly come here to help out others and to answer my own questions when i am stuck, and often when i am stuck i am stressed as in take a hammer to the computer stressed, and almost without fail by the time I have found the answer to my question a post or a comment somewhere has made me smile, and chilled me out.

Anyway back to the profiling I think other forums around all have their mix of profiles. Cubase is a mix of future Sonar users :) and some pretty harsh admins, Reaper, bless em are a sweet bunch and possibly even more in love with there software than we are, and GearSlutz are the world weary 'professionals', so we should not take there critisizm of Sonar to harshly becuase they are just scared that if they started using it, they would have nothing left to moan about :)

This is not meant at a poke at anyone, but I think its interesting that maybe we don't choose our software based on the features as in hard logical choice but because the features appeal to our musical characters.

Just a thought and probably not a clear one at that but its 3 in the morning.

What a bunch of crap. These forums are great. One of the reasons I buy only Cake products whenever possible. They are well frequented by Cake employees and well moderated. I've even been banished a couple of times!

Great post Gordon.

I have been here awhile and for those that say things have change over time I say no they haven't. But ones need to be here may change over time.

Things are much the same as they have ever been. We see jerks come and go. We see newbies ask something get an answer and never post again. We have long term members that use this place for fun and games. We see long term members that try to educate us all and do a darn good job of it. We see long term members that still need some help or want to help. Many long term members do all of the above.

No not much has changed.

Hey CJ, Desperately trying to finish my bands album before I start a new contract which will leave me De Nada time otherwise :( Actually you can check out some rough mixes and hear for yourself how its progressing at http://www.myspace.com/thepyrofessional , let me know what you think feed back is always good, especially as I still have chance to fix things. the track Falling, definitely needs work i know that.

And now for the first ever smooth segue in a forum post, the bass used on that tune is the same as the one in my avatar which to answer 7Xl question is a Warwick 20th Anniversay 2002 Ltd Edition FNA Jazzman my one is #149/200. I love it.

Yes, the real problem with this forum is that people here really like to flog a dead horse as far as lame jokes go. Now it's Oprah, but the whole "20%-40% better" thing makes me cringe everytime I see someone still making that lame joke.

I've been gone from this forum for the last couple of years, and when I came back I could not believe that people were still making that joke! And then they always put smileys afterwards as if to remind us that it's supposed to be funny! It wasn't funny EVER! I digress...

I really like it here

Being new to this forum, I'm just wandering around reading this and that, I'm getting use to where things are, although I'm still trying to find where the lavatory is (Busting to go), but other than that everything else appears in to be in order

I have found that most of the time if you are decent to others others are likely to be decent to you. This is true in life and it is very true on this board.

It is also true that discord and stridency are likely to get one discordant articulations from others. Sometimes a little discord is a good thing if in the end we learn something new.
