Timeking No you are a musician. Or in your case a naicisum. Seriously, I am having to get a new roof here in Florida. so money is wee bit tight. Just need to know the minimum I can function in, which apparently is not my 19" widescreen running at 1440x900. Hi Timeking, My brother lives in Ft. Pierce. His name is David. He plays drums in a group called Barracuda and he has a fabulous MCI 24 track / M3700 equipped studio at his home. Do you know him ?

deanx Hi Middleman I'm stumped on weather to upgrade to dual 24" or a single 27" or even bigger, (32" TV with HDMI as my PC has HDMI on the graphics card). With Sonar 8.5 i could see the need for dual monitors for TV and CV views but with X1's multidoc and screensets I'm thinking one big monitors would suffice, but I see you find the need for dual 27"s so now I'm stumped again. I haven't installed X1 yet, I'm doing it this weekend now that shiny new PC has arrived so just trying to get some advice / opinions. Thanks Dean I have a 27 and although I get a lot on the screen, I find myself missing my two 17 inch monitors because frankly, I could get more stuff up in front all the time, smaller in size graphically but more stuff. I guess it depends on if you want to learn key strokes to access all the multi dock screens or just have a full layout in front of you. I tend to use multidock just for the piano view and nothing else. I don't use the CV just the TV with the browser and inspector up on the screen. I find I am missing just about a 1/3 more screen when using the 27.

I wound up with a 23 inch 1080 widescreen for the main monitor, and my "old" 19" 1440x900 res monitor as a secondary I can turn on if I need to. The thing is with 2 monitors moving the mouse around a lot ain't good for the old carpal.

You wouldn't get more views etc on a larger screen of the same resolution as a smaller screen wuld you? Like a 20" 1920x1200 would have the same ammount of stuff as a 60" 1920x1200, is that right? I guess it would al be larger and maybe you could use the zoom, but would that actually fit more onto the screen? and... is there a point where larger is meaningless? I was thinking of getting a 24" 1920x1200 and also using my laptop screen or with a desktop, using an older ower rez LCD screen I have. Can you mix resolutions with two monitors? Lots of questions, sorry but I have ignorance to cure. Julien

I did much of that in the late 80's and suffer from substantial hearing loss and permanent tinnitus as a consequence. Today I suggest only using headphones for a que mix.

I think the only advantage to having something over 24 for me (the 40 or 50) is when I wanna really just relax and play around using my wireless keyboard and mouse-I might even take it out to the patio and still be able to see the monitor fine out there.

Lots of questions, sorry but I have ignorance to cure. Julien The extra vertical resolution of a 1920x1200 (16:10) monitor is worth it, especially with Sonar X1. Most newer graphic cards will support this resolution and you can mix resolutions with a second monitor. You won't be dissapointed. This monitor is a really good buy: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Lenovo-4420HB2/13215556?adid=77777777913300000003&wmlspartner=PSGooglePLA&ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=13215556

Only problem is they will block your monitors so you won't hear anything! Seriously, can any of you actually see the graduations and minascule numbers on knobs and so forth? I sure as hell can't and I just spent $600 on progressive glasses (near sighted) and spaced my monitors so they are in the "sweet spot" of my glasses. I see all other programs crystal clear BTW.

The numbers dont do anything for me either. I watched a few videos from other engineers and was surprised that they relied on inputting numbers on their plugs the way they used to with the hardware (a set figure). I do it all by what sounds best to me for what I am doing at the time. Presets give a quick start but fine tuning IMO is really needed to put the right touches on it for the taste and sound desired. So for me, the numbers on the knobs mean nothing. As for multiple monitors, Working (TV, PRV, or ??? etc...) screen on Main and all the plugs your working with on the other is GREAT regardless of monitor size.

Even though it might not be optimal this is what cakewalk says is the minimum requirements. The following are the minimum recommended system requirements for SONAR X1 Producer. - Windows XP Service Pack 3 (32-bit)/Vista Service Pack 2 (32- or 64-bit)/Windows 7 (32- or 64-bit)*
- Intel Core 2 Duo E8200 2.67 GHz/AMD Phenom Quad Core 9750 2.4 Ghz
- 2 GB RAM
- 1280x800 minimum screen resolution
- 4.5GB for minimal installation, 15GB for complete installation
- SONAR on DVD: DVD-ROM, DVD+/-R or DVD+/-RW Drive
- SONAR download: Broadband or better internet connection for download
- Cakewalk Publisher requires available web server space with FTP access
So you are ahead of the minimum but as you've discovered it isn't as good as it could be. As others have suggested 1920 x1080 in a 23 or 24" monitor is much better, I've jsut moved up from a pair of 20" monitors @ 1680 X 1050 to 24" @ 1920 x 1080 and the difference is awesome.

The thing is with 2 monitors moving the mouse around a lot ain't good for the old carpal. There's a little program (forget waht it's called) that allows you to use a key press that moves the mouse cursor to the centre of the other monitor. It saves heaps of wrist action. Do some googling for mouse acceleration or stuff like that.
