A really disappointing opening 45 minutes tonight. Tedious, dull, uninspiring, and without any real direction.... But that’s enough about Adrian Chiles, let's talk about the game.

They were a bit lucky today, no? First the ref saying the Ukraine ball didn't go over the line, then Sweden coming out like gang-busters and putting a 2-0 hurt on the Frogs! Go figure. France now gets Spain as their reward - bye bye!

Heaven knows he's pug ugly. He's vastly overpaid and he certainly didn't look up to the task tonight. And his annoying, whiney accent grates like sandpaper on the eardrums as he struggles to form half a dozen words into a coherent sentence. But that's enough about Adrian Chiles, let's talk about Wayne Rooney.

You should have heard the French media. Before the match : its merely a formality to go through the next round After the match : ref's fault, we were robbed, sack the trainer etc. Oh, and they also played incredibly badly. Cheets, Jerry

I don't think Wayne should worry about hair loss, he should cultivate a 'Walnut Whip' like Sir Bobby Charlton's. Then he can learn to lash the ball into the back of the net from a yard away.

Hi, I just thought it sad ... that the folks running the Euro and the WC are not interested in the technology to up the ante in their butts, because they think that technology is the devil and he will ruin their sacred cow! A couple of years ago, England kinda died in that moment, and never recovered, and neither did the Ukraine ... if you want to kill someone, tear down their heart and make them fight a fight they can't win ... and it was another sad moment in a game that is getting uglier by the minute and I would like to see several big leagues across the world tell Fifa and Eufa to get screwed and go ahead and use goal line technology or the TV replays (much cheaper!!!!!) ... besides the fact that the TV can show it to you ... and one more person for 2 hours to take a look at the shots, is cheaper than any technology. In the end, this is a scam ... by rich bastards ... that are not interested in the game ... just in protecting their power and money, and not share it with anyone else. You would think that kind of political system dies and that the World Wars were about extinguishing that scum ... but no ... they are still around!

Well last night's game proved one thing beyond a shadow of a doubt - the 2 additional "assistant referees" placed on the goal line are totally superfluous to requirements. I'm all for technology to help the referee come to a correct decision, and I don't buy into the ideathat it's use will slow the game down. By the time the ref has dealt with all these affronted players waving imaginary cards around, the incident can be replayed "upstairs" from as many angles as there are fleas on a dog and relayed down to pitchside. If a decision cannot be made inside 10 seconds, decision passes to the ref. Simples.

The game in Europe does not like to "credit" America for anything ... thus, things like "Instant Replay" will never be used, because that would be admitting that America did something right to a sport! Which some of those Europeans do not like ... It's just ethnocentric and xenophobic behaviour by old time industrialists still fighting to keep their control ... 150 years after they all should have died!

That's some mighty strong words there Mr. Pedro. Of course it's debatable that "America did something right to a sport" by introducing "instant replay"...... I would take the stance that this takes away the human element away from a sport and bringing in technology only diminishes it's natural environment/flavour (so to speak). Refrees, umpires, judges etc... are all part of the sporting environment and will make mistakes......but, that's all part of the game and the players have to accept the decision(s). It's money that drives all these sports into becoming more scientific and as a result using much less the natural human ability (whether good or bad).

Pedro Instant replay would kill one of the things that is great about Football - controversy. I don't have a problem with goal line technology (maybe a light goes off when the ball has completely crossed the line) but any other decisions made in the game should be left open to human error as that is what keeps the beautiful game flowing. How boring would it be if they had to stop the game to look at an instant replay every time someone challenged an offside/no offside. Sit through American Football (Throwball), the 1 hour game that runs to 4 hours, you wouldn't be saying what you're saying.

I must admit that while much of the FA needs embalming and putting in a museum, I have to agree totally with our Daryl.

Let's not be too hasty to reject Instant Replay (or DejaVu Cam or Tardis Cam or Referees are Winded and Need a Break Cam). It could provide an enhanced viewing experience for Football (or, as it's known in the US, "What Else is On?"). Extreme Slow Motion could be very useful when evaluating just how far a fan's teeth flew or when investigating strange lifeforms living on certain individual's heads. Regular features could include, "What is that guy eating?" and "Sucker Punch!" Granted, none of this may have much to do with the actual game itself, but isn't most of the action happening in the stands anyway?

I'm not aware of any cricket challenges during the game.
