A Couple of Screen Set Examples

There's a pretty good discussion of Screen Sets here and I thought I might add something to the discussion and perhaps learn from some of you.

I'm hardly qualified to tell anyone how to use these new features in X1 but I thought it might help to see a couple Screen Sets and to get some feedback and input from others on how they are using them.

This is my first attempt at posting a pic so it might take a bit to get the resolution correct. Please bear.

SCREEN SET 1 - I named it 'Tracking'

I start with a blank 'Normal Template' created by inserting a single Audio Track and using The Track Manager EDIT (cntrl 'H')  ('H') - cntlr H hides tracks at random - I hide that track so I can start without any tracks.

With the browser set up on the left and the default screen set to my custom Track Templates I can drag in any instrument I want. Even if I'm dragging in an acoustic bass from DimPro I can quickly change the instrument by double clicking on the MIDI icon in that track and selecting another instrument so it also acts as a synth insert tool.

Also with the browser set up on the left the drag to the TV is really short and quick.

My Screen Set 2 MIDI Edit

After recording a MIDI track I switch to Screen Set 2, scroll to the track I want to edit, double click the track/Clip and the MIDI notes appear in the PRV ready for editing.

Then back to Screen Set 1 to insert another track

Screen Set 3 Console

Pretty simple and haven't really had a need for more Screen Sets yet. I hope that helps someone

I like those ideas. I really haven't played with SS's too much. I've been concentrating on b/c/d/i and t. Especially d with the mutidock.

You have to have a 'host' of some kind to post pics to. Then use the url of that host to post pics. I've got a couple of web sites and I can upload pics there. Never done it here in the forums though. Went pretty well.

I hate to say it but you don't need the Piano Roll. The In line Piano Roll will do most if not all that PR will do. Including the CCs.

John, Can you elaborate a bit? I'd really like to learn.

EDIT: I get it John. This way works best for me as I can have separate editing environment, but good to know that the inline is there if needed.

looks logical but WHOAH ........  I can better understand the complaints about XI's new "Studio One"  BLUE & GREY monochromatic color scheme.

    Yuk

Cakewalk really needs to work on the color schemes for X1B update.

I guess we have taken color for granted in the past simply because Cakewalk did such a good job .......  but this monochromatic scheme with all the backgrounds Grey and all the buttons Blue makes it difficult to tell at a glance what is really going on.

Yeah, I've very little color changes - because they don't work yet! But agree the scheme is a bit drab.

Yes, the blues and greys look a lot like Cubase.

Now I like Cubase, but I would really LOVE full configuration and total control over all colors.  But I don't want to engage in further deceased equine battery...

One of the things I was after from CW was a better IPR. To me it will be a lot easier to have notes align with audio using it then the PR. The thing is now we have options.

You can zoom it to just include the area you want to work in. But I believe the microscope is still around. But I could be wrong about that.

Yes, the Microscope feature is still there. Choose View > MIDI Microscope in the Track view menu. It's on by default.

Fit Content is my favorite thing to do when I have a Inline PRV that looks like that.

What's nice is that you can have 3 or 4 screensets each with a different midi track in view with a different snap setting.  And with one key press you're back in your Track View at a different snap setting or even your console view.

Fit MIDI Content - SWEET. Didn't know about that feature.

I see the MIDI microscope but I haven't gotten it to work yet.

I've already made it clear how much I love screensets. They are whatever you want them to be, limited only by imagination AFAICT.

This is real simple example but I have a 'track console view' and a 'buss console view' in my main template. Both maximised console views one with only track strips visible, the other just busses (obviously) jump between them by pressing a key. Simple, fast, efficient.
