Warren,
Some real smooth playing there, buddy!

RDL,
Excellent!! Love your tone and riffs!

Blipp,
You are indeed the Blippinator of the geetar.

Thatstrat,
Now there is a tone I wasn't expecting. Cool stuff!

Kenny,
You're so smooth that we ought to name a drink after you......like "Smoothie" or something.

Herb,
I'm so glad to see that I wasn't the only one going a little heavy on this one. You even did a riff in there that I was going to put in, but changed my mind. Crazy, eh?    Lovely tones, mate!

Frank,
I almost didn't see your post!
Nice pure tone as usual. Nice feel.

I think that Ohgrant's comment "many tasty shades of blue" was a great thought.  I expected all of the regular guitar players to bring what they did.  Excellent stuff.  I do want to say that Scotty was the biggest surprise to me.  Gheeesh, dude, I should have listened closer sometimes I guess.  You blew me away.  I thought you were going to do a fiddle lead.  I am standing up right now doing the "I'm not worthy" bow.

Re:A Minor Affair: Guitar Center Blues Play Along 2010/04/29 23:46:13 (permalink)

so far ,
all the tunes so far have been highly individualized

a few off the top of my head

Blip has some nice fluency w his guitar playing

Frank had a nice authentic blues tone & playing
he  brought a big smile to my face when he did the volume swells ,
i thought Roy was in the house

Herb got a nice heavy crunch tone going  X2

Scotty brought some real unexpected heat

Roger had a tasty sounding rendition , nice & melodic w good story telling in his playing

Warren's  tone was smooth & clean
then his cell phone rang must of rang & he had to take the call during mid song
what I heard was good

if I didn't mention a player yet , I will as soon as I can
this is a lot to absorb

to the  forum members  that had kind words regarding my song version & guitar playing
thank you

Kenny

Hey, Kenny, I ran out of notes.
Hi Warren ,
well ...that explains it
I started feeling like I was running out of notes after my opening melody phrase
say,
we could pass the guitar case around & take a few notes out of mine & Scotty's

All of you did some fine playing there really!  I loved all the different tones & phrasing.  Scotty's surprised me the most, and was closest to what I would probably try to do if I could play that well.   Great job everyone!

That was  a great idea Mike, and it was great listening to the different styles everyone used!

Wow, there's a ton of great stuff here! I made the mistake of listening to everyone's take on this tune and almost chickened out but, what the heck...here's mine.

Kudos to Mike for taking the initiative on this.

Great stuff everyone.

I'm glad people are having fun with this... it seems like a simple way to just have good ol fashioned fun.

I need to re emphasize that the rhythm track is from Guitar Center's web site and it was produced by Pete Anderson.... not me :-) I felt comfortable posting the link and suggesting we have fun with it because Guitar Center provides the tracks just for folks to practice with... presumably in anticipation of a contest... but we can practice just for fun as well.

Honestly, I think it's a brilliant move on their part... and I want to make sure I don't confuse anyone by seeming to be associated... I am not... I just like to play guitar. :-) and listen to other people do the same!

I've enjoyed everyone's contribution.
Interesting to hear the different takes and personalities of all the members.
From Mikes, which redefines "laid back"...to Scottys "I can't drive 55" and everything in between.
Loads of fun.
Thanks for hosting Mike...we should make it a regular event.

Gary, that was so fine… I loved the harmony lines (not overdubbed), and that cool jazzy lick at the end… I really love how you play so much, so tastefully, while leaving plenty of air and room to breathe… Tone to the bone… I want to know how you got that…
Kenny, your jazz styling is so real and tasteful… you’ve got that Wes M. vibe happening and the bigbody guitar tone is delicious…
Scotty… slow down, take a breath, leave a few holes… just teasing...  technically, that was awesome… Am I still bleedin ?
RLD, you are dangerous… your hands are like lethal weapons… Masterful soloing… After hearing your take, I quit playing for 2 hours… Scary good…
Blipp, I love your playing, everything you do is so musical… great touch & tone…
Mike, Bruce, Herb, you guys are all great players with your own cool styles… Very impressive…
Warren, that was hot-licks aplenty, from an ol’timer, hippie, mountainclimbin’ bassplayer… I think I’m goin’ back to being a bassist, after hearing all you gunslingers…

I hope I didn't leave anyone out...
Thanks again Mike...

mike_mccue = Nice tone with tasty placement of notes

evadianepug= More nice tone with a nice take on the blues

RLD = Being I have you listed as one of my favorites on Sound Click I was expecting something good and I was not disappointed. Great tone and playing.

blipp = Yours was a surprise to me as I thought of you as a keyboard guy. Nice take on the tune.

Kennywtelejazz= I new Kenny was a player and was expecting something kind of jazz oriented, and that’s what you delivered. However, I was not expecting the hollow body tone that you used. That was nice.

Guitarhacker= Knowing Herb as player I was expecting his almost patented harmony lead, and you delivered plus change.

nomnat = I also knew Frank to be a player and was looking forward to his totally tasty blues background take on this. Your tones are always a treat and I knew I would enjoy listening to your post.

Scottytunes = Well Scotty didn’t fiddle around with his post. (LOL) You totally sold this one.
Water cooled guitar, that’s a hoot.

geeare1= I really liked your G Benson style on this. Also a fun post to listen to.

Those that were not on my radar are there now. This was fun and I hope to do it again.
I feel like the guy that gets a backstage pass and is aloud to hang out with the talent for a moment. Thanks for letting me hang out.

Re:A Minor Affair: Guitar Center Blues Play Along 2010/04/30 23:07:54 (permalink)
Hi everyone. I just wanted to take a minute to tell you how much I enjoyed listening to everyone's take on this tune.

Mike: Loved your tone, laid back approach and phrasing.

Warren: Your tele has a sorta 'springy' tone when you dig into notes that I really like. Great tasteful guitar playing from an outstanding singer/songwriter/bass player...doesn't seem fair, somehow

RLD: Man, you can really play. I love your phrasing and the way you move in and out of different tonalities. Outstanding.

blipp: I used to think you were strictly an 'electronic' guy, then I start hearing some guitar on you music and then BAM! here you are playin' the blues! Guess I was wrong about that 'electronic' guy thing...I love your tone and approach on this tune.

Thatsastrat: Love the 'leslie' speaker tone. I like it at around 1:20 when you sorta back off a little and then come back in screamin'. Great job.

Kenny: Wow. Love the sound you get out of that guitar. You've got a real nice style that works well with this groove.

Guitarhacker: Herb I get a kind of Santana vibe from a lot of your playing on this...and then the harmonies come in and take in a different direction altogether...very cool.

notnat: Frank, there was never any doubt that you would absolutely nail a tune like this. Your tone, phrasing, vibrato are all first rate, as always. What kills me, though, is the way that you somehow 'own' every song you play on...I mean even though you're playing to someone else's backing track once your guitar is on there this wouldn't sound out of place on your CD. How do you do that?

Scotty: Wow, wow, wow!! I love how you can put down that fiddle, put aside those waltzes and jigs...pick up an electric guitar and let the 'other' Scotty take over! Awesome playing...gotta love the 'take no prisoners' approach

Thanks again to Mike for gettin' the ball rollin' on this.

I'm blown away by all of the versions I've heard so far. I was listening yesterday and everyone has had the unique touch of the performer in each rendition. Thanks for participating and sharing.

I just got done listening to Scotty's version and I have to say that I am really blown away at what he can do. Is there any instrument you are not proficient on?

I feel the way "Thatsastrat" feels.  I feel like I am backstage and being allowed to sit in with the big boys.  This thread is a testament to the Cakewalk Forum talent.  Thanks for letting me join in.

Mike- Great idea for this thing.  Great tone. Nicely understated lead.  There when it needed to be.

Evadianepug- Quitter!

RLD-
Wonderful sound and interpetration.  Nice runs!

Blipp- What's next?  The fiddle?  Great job, buddy!

Thatsastrat- I wouldn't have thought of that effect but I sure am glad that you did.  Excellent job!  Innovation!!

Kenny- Smooth is right!  A great tone and a great lead!

Herb- Here comes the rock tone.  Nice thought and I love the "spaciousness" of it.

Frank-I knew it would be great, whatever you did.  Gary was right about it being yours.  One of my "bucket list" wishes is to see you play live some day.  Loved the volume swells!

Gary- What can I say? You are a premier string striker.  One of my favs.  Tasty, skilled licks.  (Oh, thanks!)

All of you folks rock!

Oh, Scotty, I already gushed enough over yours!  LOL!
