lawp i suggest that fixing the forum search functionality would be a good thing
Ha - I was just scrolling down this thread on my phone and exactly the same thing popped into my head, and the next post I looked at was yours. Every technical forum should have a grade-A search function. It's absolutely vital. This forum doesn't. It was awful in the old version and not much better in the new one. I know we can search the forum via Google and get great results but it's a shame the forum search isn't so good.

If they can't do it any better than Google, then don't devote resources to it.
However, put a Google search box up with instructions on how to search the forum with it, that would be nice.

Search works very well for me, not sure what the issue is? The forum software being used here is APG vNext Commercial and is on Version 4.3, see link at the bottom of the page. Latest version is 4.5 as demo'd here: http://www.aspplayground.net/community/Forums.aspx

ok, for example, i searched for "solved" and get: 200 threads since "the beginning", filtered to 134 threads in the last 2 years; if i change it search to 'actual posts' it returns no results, when obviously it should be far more - this is across all forums. it's also so slow i wonder if anything is happening (same cause as multiple posts perhaps?) in ff23 on win7. in ff on android i get the first 200 but no date filter options... (same for "arse") ... and posting this reply gives me "An unexpected error occurred and logged. Please try again later."...

That same search filter returns 257 results for me. Keep in mind we didn't create this forum software. I've noticed search can be a bit slow too when pulling up results initially, but it's actually searching millions of posts (well over a hundred thousand threads) dating back several years with a complex query. I think saying it's broken is a bit over the top. It's actually working quite well. Perhaps it could be a bit better, but we're in the business of making music software not forum software. CakeAlexS mentioned there are some updates to the ASP Playground software and we have some optimizations planned for this server in general, but I think it goes without saying that our focus is more geared towards improving SONAR at the moment.

When on my phone I use the mobile version of forum. I like it better. It maybe Ryan. What I have noticed is that I will hit the reply button and nothing seems to happen, so I think I haven't touched it long enough for a touch to register on my screen, and when it does take, and starts to load I get a message (something like this) "that I can't post twice in such a short period of time." And I also agree with you. CW is a music company. Work on that! The forum sw is workable! I can definitely live with it!!

Ryan Munnis [Cakewalk] I'd like to know what's wrong with the search. Claiming we need to fix something with no context as usual isn't really helpful. :(
Well for instance, I started a thread entitled "Tracks routed to Kontakt multi exhibit mute/solo grouping" yesterday, yet it doesn't show up in a forum search for "Kontakt." I don't think it's the case that the forum search won't return results from as recent as yesterday, because the first result in that search is a post from yesterday (when the "last update" filter is engaged).

Sharke if you search for Tracks Kontakt it works it needs a little more detail. That's not uncommon with website search engines (don't expect everything to work as great as google :) ). I have a hunch though... * A slash in the title may not help (try editing and removing it). * After a post, full search indexing may not happen straight away so the search engine may handle the search differently. Ryan you may wish to review the period search gets indexed (without hammering your servers of course), also please check this: http://www.aspplayground.net/community/Change-FullText-Index-Language-m407789.aspx Although hardly a priority. Cheers...
