Addictive Drums 2

I've been practicing (pretending) drum rhythms with my keyboard. I've played with a lot of drummers in my day  and one thing I learned was to create rhythms.  I finger for each piece. Kick, snare, high hat, cymbals, Latin percussion etc. and all the things they do. There have been times when I spend 2 days just playing around with the kits. What a blast!

I like to import or play a walking bass and jam !!!
I think I have almost all the kits

I'm jealous.  I picked up an MPD26 last year so I could be a pretend drummer with EZD/AD.  I don't like the pad sensitivity.  I'll start being a pretend drummer if I ever get the corx thingies and install them.

Bill, do you have EZ Player Pro? AD2 and most other drum vst's map out very nicely/organize all your midi files (not just drums).

I got it but I can't do anything with it. I also can't figure out how to download the sample pack. I give a purchase number but no where to use it I can see. I managed to download both the 64 and 32 bit  versions. It say the path is wrong

EZPlayer Pro installs as a VST2 plugin. The 64-bit version installed to the default location of:

C:\Program Files\VSTPlugIns\Toontrack

To use it, you need to either bring it up in SONAR (as a VST2 synth), or use something like SAVIHost to run it standalone. To use SAVIHost, copy SAVIHost.exe to the same directory as EZplayer.dll, and rename it EZplayer.exe. You can create a shortcut on your desktop to it. Easy peasy.

http://www.hermannseib.com/english/savihost.htm

If you have any of the Toontrack synths (SD, EZDrummer or EZKeys), you can use the free Toontrack Solo app instead of SAVIHost.

Good luck!

Did you install the 32-bit version instead? If so,

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steinberg\VstPlugIns\Toontrack

Alternatively, start a File Search on the root "c:\" for "EZplayer.dll".

.DLL files are system files. You may have the default option to HIDE system files still set in Explorer. To get to Options, click on the Files tab, and the select Options (this text can be slightly different; can be something like Folder and File Options).

Your setting should look like:

And then search via Explorer:

Do you have Sonar set to manual scan for plug-ins?  If so, you need to kick off a scan to get EZ Player picked up for selection.

Wow Bill, you had to jump through a lot of hoops to install this.....but, glad it's finally working out. I didn't have any installation issues but IIRC, at the time I didn't realize you needed Sonar or another host program to run it.

Anyway, how do you like it?

Bob, I have Maschine Micro MK2 and have to say the pad sensitivity/response is very good (being clumsy playing drums on the keys, this is a treat). I haven't mapped AD2 (which I really like) into the MK2, but it works really well with all the drums it comes with (and there's a ton).

Thanks for the tip.  I can get Corx for $15 for the MPD26, so I'll try that first.  I'm sure if I spring for a Maschine, I wouldn't be happy until I had KxxU  :)

What I usually do is record and play the kik, snare, and ride cymbol then do another to add hi hat( open, closed etc.) and other percussion enhancements to get the rhythm I'm looking for on a song. It takes a while cuz I have to practice it then play. It works for me but is slow. I got carried away doing NOW and Autumn Leaves cuz it was so much fun. The problem is it took 50% of the total time to add it.

That's kind of my problem too....time....I'd love to take the time to play the beats/program it in detail, but my time at the DAW is a bit limited and I end up using AD2.

It's the easy/lazy road out, but it works......I'm taking mental notes on what you're doing here.

I hear ya Bob.....KU is on my radar too (if the price is right).

I'm still considering Komplete for 4 bills, with a maybe upgrade to U later during a sale.

I have to say, Jamstix is my absolute favorite go-to for programming drums. Once you get into the song layout and "brain" editing in depth you can get some incredible results, the sort of beats I would have never achieved in a piano roll or live playing. I even use it for electronica drums by hooking it up to Battery or Geist...right now I'm programming some insane Aphex Twin style craziness which changes time sigs every measure...3/4 then 4/4 then 3/4 then 5/4 then 6/4 etc...and with Jamstix I'm even changing playing styles with every measure....here a breakbeat, there a march with snare rolls....here straight eights, there a swing feel. And then adding fills on certain measures and tweaking those in all kinds of interesting ways. Not to mention changing the drummer model from measure to measure, so certain measures have bang on timing while others are behind the beat and others ahead of the beat. You wouldn't want this kind of craziness in a straight ahead C&W number of course but for insanely complex mayhem nothing "beats" it (heh heh).
