Can't hide individual automation parameters. When you have several parameters in a track, it gets very cluttered. This has been mentioned before but I think it's very important; I miss a lot of the tool buttons. All CW had to do was leave in the customization of tool bars.

Have you tried the automation filter AKA Edit Filter? From what all are stating from CW and elsewhere it is just the opposite of what you describe.

John T Maybe a shock when it was announced, but you can't claim it was a shock on purchase. Well, John T, it isn't a good practice to tell people either what to experience or how they're supposed to experience something. I'm telling you that, yes, I can claim that X1 was a shock on purchase. It doesn't matter if you think it shouldn't have been. It was. And I know from being on the Forum that I'm certainly not alone in being shocked by it. Please don't claim to know anything about how I feel about X1 or anything. Just take my word when I'm talking about my own personal experience, and that experience is that X1 was a shock when I finally had my hands on it, and I still can't make it replace 8.5. Hi, John - "...That may be in the eye of the beholder..." re: the graphics of X1. Yes, of course it's in the eye of the beholder. But, as far as this goes, you can see that there are quite a few eyes which are beholding X1 in the same way - as the ugly, drab, blocky, program design 101 monstrosity that I consider it to be. And so it goes. Back to "The Nutcracker" on the telly - done without Any version of Sonar, I'm willing to wager! Randy B.

John Thanks John T for getting the idea I am trying to point out. What is being talked about here is not any function or ability that Sonar offered as a feature being removed. What is being said here are really cosmetic issues. Sure it impacts how one works with X1 as oppose to how one did work with Sonar but not that any real function or feature was in fact removed. I would like for example a user created button bar perhaps as a way to get some of 8's usability back. But I was given the impression that X1 was not as capable as what I already have in 8.5.3. That is false. I think it needs to be stated that one is not going backwards as was stated so many times in other threads. In fact one may gain things. Such as GPU support for taking processing off the CPU. I have seen posts saying that one should get an ATI card for this new version. To my knowledge ATI does not support this. I need to look at this further to know the facts. The manual is not clear about what is supported and in what way. But something is being supported. I am not talking about Areo either. Good advice is really not being thoughtfully given in the wake of us all scrambling to come to grips with this new version. Robin or Seth (whoever it was) didn't say anything about X1 taking advantage of a Graphic's cards GPU. The question was asked of them was this the case and they said with the increase in screen graphics manipulation in X1 it would be best to have a graphics card with 1 GIG of memory. In X1 they were taking advantage of more SSE instruction sets (CPU not GPU) Believe me I'm using a QUADRA FX 3800 and there's nothing loaded off onto the GPU. I wish people would read posts properly

They didn't have to; read below. This is posted in another thread from me Mike. ● New graphics framework ○ In order to streamline graphics drawing SONAR X1 has a new framework (graphics engine) to handle all graphics drawing operations ○ This framework abstracts the work of drawing objects minimizing kernel use, thereby reducing glitches even when navigating large projects in the UI ○ We built a new graphics layer for the future which allows for the best possible rendering on various OS versions and affords the use of modern graphic primitives. ○ The benefit is manifold. Easier to code, easier to debug, and nice to look at. ○ We’re taking advantage of several things that were a bit challenging to render previously. A few examples are anti-aliased rendering of many different types of geometric shapes (both outlined and filled), alpha blending, gradients, etc. in many places. ○ We’ll be bringing more and more UI code into the future. The above is from the fineprint PDF of Noel Borthwick. This could be all they mean about what is in X1. I may be totally wrong in thinking CUDA was implemented.

InstrEd Craig Anderton has running dialog on his site http://acapella.harmony-central.com/showthread.php?2711068-I-Have-Sonar-X1-Up-and-Running-Here.../page5 I found really interesting the posts starting on page 5. Yes indeed. I particularly find his comment in post #91 (also on page 5) interesting. The post where he says he won't use 8.5 unless it's the only thing on the computer he's using at the moment. I also noted his comments regarding audiosnap and the new inspector (in other posts, I think). And just to keep this on topic, in the posts I read, I did not see any comments from him regarding any possibly missing features in X1. There could be...I have not read the whole thread.

P.S. John, we definitely needed a "can-do" thread of this nature. I mean...yes, we might identify missing features in X1, but based on my reading thus far, I think we will more often learn newer and maybe faster ways of doing common tasks. Together, as a community. And that is a good thing. So thanks!

some of us feel that reorganizing and moving things did remove functionality, others of us feel that everything is still there. To me these are mutually exclusive - either equivalent capability (equivalent in terms of ease of use and efficiency counts too) is there, or it isn't. Just goes to show how different we all are because I disagree with this. For example I suggested somewhere that the PRV/TV snap to settings wasn't a problem as there are now screensets. To me a screenset change is a push of a button which is great and IMHO far better than having to take my hand away from my CS and keyboard to move a mouse. Of course many more others want to have the ability to move the mouse from one view to the other rather than push a button. I can respect that but for me the biggest scourge of the whole computer set up is the mouse. I would much rather have my cursor centralised on monitor one and then push a button bringing my PRV into view than I would move the mouse to my second monitor. i.e. bring the view to the mouse not move the mouse to the view. I know it's probably never going to happen but if I could chuck my mouse away tomorrow I'd be much happier. I even went to a tracker ball for a while but couldn't really get on with it. I look forward to the day when there's a touch pad in-built into every keyboard much like it is into most laptops. (In fact if somebody makes one, please link me). That's mainly because of the way my whole work space is set up but a pushed button is my far preferred way of working than moving a mouse. Even though there are many, many functions where I have to do that. If I can achieve the same without touching the mouse that's going to be my first choice every time. That's just me I don't expect anyone to agree of course.......

"... I can't find anything taken out of X1 that we had in Sonar 8.5.3..." - I miss the "global layouts". I must open hundreds of projects made on other computers. Therefor I cannot use the Screensets made with other computerdisplays. They used a template, that is inappropriate with my computer displays. The "import screenshot" is very awkward. - "C" for splitting clips. The Edit Tool (F8) is now cycling between Trim, Timing, Split. But I want a "direct" shurtcut for "Split".

then I found out that with the Smart Tool selected - which I am liking more and more all the time - you can "scissors" any time by holding down Alt. So you split, and then you're back in Smart Tool land. This is way better than the old way because you're not just kicked back into the cursor after splitting, you're back into the Smart Tool. This is taken from the Anderton thread on Harmony Central. I hope he doesn't mind.

As stated earlier, the save button is missing as are the undo, redo, cut, copy, and paste buttons. Of course, one can use key bindings for these functions, or use the edit menu, but for those who are physically impaired, key bindings are a pain, and using the edit menu adds yet another click to do a function that used to require only one click. For me, X1 is still as powerful as previous versions, but no matter how well I get to know it, it will always be a little bit slower until CW addresses some of these issues. BTW, this is a good topic of conversation to have because I believe it can and should get CW's attention. All the best, Lynn

Menu customization is gone. I used it to set up more logical keyboard accelerators on right-click menus. Visual indication of the auto crossfade status is gone. Visual indication of the new project sample rate settings when no project is loaded is gone. Polarity invert is gone from the track view, it's now in the inspector which is a usability step back for me--so ease of working is gone. Many midi controls are gone from the track view and are now in the inspector, which is a usability step back. Much of color customization is gone. FX bins are narrower, showing less information. So information is gone. Track View I/Os show less information. From my point of view, while there are lots of terrific new features, and lots of old features are re-worked to work better, lots of items --the little things, the polish, the minor things that make using the program just a bit easier-- are gone or made just a bit more difficult. Out of the box, I'll agree that Sonar 8.5 and earlier versions had a cluttered, overwhelming appearance. But I was able to customize it into something very streamlined for how I work. X1 has lost a lot of that customizability. I was talking about this with one of our usability designers where I work--a game company. I brought up my initial 8.5.3 normal template and then my best-of-my-ability X1 template. I pointed out all the various little differences and she agreed that X1 is a step backwards in those areas. I also pointed out lots of the terrific new features that are better in X1 like smart tool automation handling. From a purely graphical, informational, usability perspective, X1 has lost a lot. It's very frustrating to me.

Lynn and Eotn; I believe that some of the things that you are missing are going to be put back in some form or another in either a patch or in a new version. Brandon and other CW people have been clear on that. CW is not finished with X1. X1 is hardly perfect but it is no where as bad as many say it is.

Pos-Charged, Craig said this in the thread: The more I work with X1, the more I find these kinds of functionality issues where the old way doesn't exist or seems broken, but then I find the new way, and realize it's better. John I think he said it very well there. Because in my case, this is exactly what happen to me. I went to work on some midi drum parts and had a fit over the "No Midi Tools" and started a thread about it. Then I saw a couple of suggestions and went back, worked with it for a lot of hours, and sure enough, I now prefer X1 over 8.5. The Smart Tool is really good. But you have to know how to use it. So John I think it is more ignorance than anything else.

I struggle with the fact that you feel it so important to make a point against those of us who are not happy with X1, when you don't have it. I think we could have a far more honest discussion if we are all talking from experience. I 've made that clear in so many posts that it should be general knowledge. Nor does it invalidate this thread. If you read the title it is asking not telling anyone anything. When I answer a post with facts its from either the manual or from posts on this forum from people that do have it and people I trust. These people include CW employees. When I am wrong on a point or don't know the answer I will admit my error or say I don't know. I have tried to be as neutral about this as I can. In a way because I don't have a dog in this fight I am less likely to be emotional about. What I see is a misrepresentation of what a feature is and ease of use issues. The fact is no features were taken out of X1 unlike Sonar 1 when it replaced Pro Audio 9. The audio edit window was removed. This was a full audio editing feature including a draw tool. Also the ability to make Studioware panels was remove as well as the Cal editor. That is removing functionality. Changing a GUI but leaving the complete feature set from the past version is not removing features. Sonar 1 was a total GUI change with a loss of real features. I don't need to have the program to delineate those differences. Further, this thread is not what I think but people posting examples of a feature being removed and a response that I believe will show no such feature was removed. This being done by explaining how to get that feature working for them. When I get X1 I will be far more able to give my impressions of it which I have so far not done anywhere. I am hoping that this thread will be helpful to all in clearing up some of the information being spread. Also a lot of posters have given their verdicts on X1 without having it. I have not done that.

That makes no sense to me as an argument. I am using logic and deep reading and study to get the answers I have been putting forth. I believe I am accurate in everything I have said. I have made a comment here and there that is encouraging or synthetic. I have not made any comment that devalues some one else's issues anywhere.

John +1 on that. I wonder how you are so sure that these issues will be addressed in the future. Why should we have had to wait in the first place? I hope you are correct, but now that I know that you don't even have X1 I have to wonder. I've been using it since the 9th, and I'll be curious to hear your evaluation after you have used it as long. Still, you often seem to have insider knowledge that no one else has, and I hope that's the case this time. Regards, Lynn How on earth would my not having X1 detract from the validity of me repeating statements from CW? By having it I am thus given more info on future patches and versions? That makes no sense to me as an argument. I am using logic and deep reading and study to get the answers I have been putting forth. I believe I am accurate in everything I have said. If I am not show me where I am in error. In fact, I'm encouraged that you believe that some of these issues will be addressed in a future patch or version. I must have missed some of the threads that you've seen from CW saying they will address these issues. However, as you point out, you're just repeating something someone else said and not speaking from experience. If you get X1 before any changes are made, please let us know what you think of the work flow. Does it speed up your work? If you could provide a link to information you've heard from CW I, and I'm sure many other users, would be happy to know that we're being heard. Last, but not least, I would like you to know that I, too, am using logic, reading, studying, and experience to arrive at my conclusions. Best regards, Lynn

Rothchild I even went to a tracker ball for a while but couldn't really get on with it. I look forward to the day when there's a touch pad in-built into every keyboard much like it is into most laptops. (In fact if somebody makes one, please link me). http://www.amazon.com/Ade...B-4000US/dp/B00083Y0YG Shop about though, I didn't pay anywhere near that much for mine. Child Thanks for that. Now that's my idea of a way to work. Thanks again, I'll have a good look round. Ebay here I come...........
