Anybody got the Acoustic Bass Guitar - "ABA" ?  The demo tracks sound good.

The only one I don't have...

Side note: Have you been successful at dragging a midi file into the riffer? I have tried both in Splat and stand alone with no joy. I did use the same midi file (created in Sonar) so maybe I need to try a different file.

I can drag them from the riffer to Splat and everything works just fine.

Thanks,
Rick

I have not tried it. I have been preoccupied trying to improve the string parts on my latest piece after feedback on the songs forum. I will give it a try tomorrow.

I am waiting to use that Stingray bass in anger.

I wonder what you could do with this to create variations using a basic bass pattern???

Has anyone tried bringing a midi file into the riffer?

I have tried everything I can think of in standalone mode, within splat, tried re-installing all Bass libraries using the full installers. No Go for me, I can not find anyway to drag a .mid file into the riffer.

I can convert tabs to riff files but the midi import just don't work for me on either machine.

Kind regards,
Rick

I tried to buy their P-bass, but you need a user ID, and I couldn't find a place to sign up for a user ID.  Can anyone clue me in on that?  Thanks!

I went ahead and bought the ABA acoustic bass guitar and on the inital audition it really does sound good and is a welcome addition range of bass sounds.

Sorry I have not yet got around to trying to drag MIDI into riffer as a non music project and finalising a mix has been taking up much of my time.

Congrats on your purchase of ABA.

I have been working with the guys at Ample Sound about the midi to Riffer issue.  At this point, it appears one needs to select the midi track, do a 'Save As' and choose either type 0 or 1 midi file. At that point you can drag the saved file into the Riffer but only a couple of bars will show up.

They are working with a midi file I sent them but it currently seems very limited vs. the tab to Riffer. I still have high hopes for this feature as it matures.

Also, they just released a 2.5.1 update for the bass instruments. I don't remember what all is involved but the updates should be in your Ample Sound account.

Kind regards,
Rick

I bought the MM 5 string. I just "had to".

It's installed. Not used it yet, just quick perusal.

Guess I need to install the 2.5.1 update now. And so it goes.

OK, I've held out so far, but this sale expires on Monday.  So I looked for a demo download for the new basses, Yin Yang & Metal Ray5, but the only electric bass that they have available as a trial is the P-Bass.

I already have the free P-bass, which I think sounds quite realistic, but I would opt for one of the new models for this deal.

I like the idea of the 5 string model, but they are marketing it as a metal bass.  All the examples are in this genre.  Is it possible to play it clean like an actual Stingray5?  Can you control the pick up and EQ settings?  Or is it only sampled as an angry metal bass?

I like the sounds of the actual Stingray5 being demoed here.  If this thing can sound like this, I'm in!

The Stingray does have an aggressive tone but all the effects can be turned off. Clean it still has attitude. Through Amplitube Fender 2 bass amp sim it sounds bloody marvelous.

Thanks Glyn!  I like the natural tone of the real Stingray5, but was a bit hesitant on the Metal Ray 5, thinking Ample had jacked it up or something.  Must be marketing!

I'm having a hard time convincing myself to get this. I just got Modo Bass a couple of weeks ago and I have NI Scarbee Pre-Bass and Jay-Bass,as well as Sonivox Classic Bass.I'm happy with the basses I have,I really just want the Riffer feature,I wish they sold the Riffer feature seperately(maybe expand it a bit).

OK, so I pulled the trigger on the Ample Metal Ray5.  I was trying to decide between that and the Fodera Yinyang.

I found a review on the Yinyang that mentioned it had a lot of great articulations and was great for a solo, but that it was harder to fit into a mix.

So I tried the trial of the Ample P-Bass with the riffer.  The riffer is great, but I already have the free Ample P-Bass Lite, so I wanted a different sound.  I did consider the J-Bass (hey, it's good enough for Geddy Lee!), but I thought I would stick with one of the two newest models.  Besides, I already have a real P-Bass.

I like the sound of the Metal Ray, and it is a lot brighter sounding that the P-Bass, but I assume that has a lot to do with the active electronics it was sampled from.  So both of the new Ample electric basses are based on active bass models, compared to the standard P-Bass and J-Bass which are passive.  If you EQ the sound some you can dull it down.

So the AMR doesn't seem to have a finger mode, just picked, but I found another way around that ...

Reading the manual pays off!!!  There is an option for "MIDI Out" that sends out all MIDI generated by the plugin, including the Riffer.  You turn that option on, and you can then set any other plugin in your DAW to use the Ample plugin as MIDI input.  It even works fine with the free Ample P-Bass, which gets that nice fat fingered sound rockin' the riffs!

I even tried the Riffer with bass synth presets in Z3TA+2, SynthMaster, and Hybrid.  What a monster!  Just find a kickass bass preset, like a big fat analog bass and have some fun!!!

I'm really liking this!!!

I've had my eye on the Ample Sound basses for a while and remember seeing something about the riffer feature last month but, wanted to wait until I heard more about it. In the mean time I found out that I qualified for the crossgrade on Modo and there was a sale a couple of weeks ago and I got Modo for around $150.

Think of it this way.  You pay $89 (last day today) for the riffer, and they throw in a bass for free.

The riffer is real.  And like I found, with MIDI out, it can be used with any MIDI instrument.

The interesting thing about Riffer is each string can be output on its own MIDI channel and the Amplesound basses respond to this. ( Midi guitar mode.)

Riffer is like a piano roll editor but instead of a keyboard its a fretboard. Controller data and key switch data gets generated when selecting articulations. It would benefit with some further development but its pretty nifty now.

One thing that I hope gets enhanced with future development is that the riffer includes other scale modes, such as minor keys, etc.  All of the riffs provided apparently use a major key, and you can transpose freely among them, but what if you want to use a minor key?  I noticed that you can click on individual notes in the riffer view and change them, so if you know the degree of the scale notes that you need to change you could manually edit, but why not have it to begin with?
