[Answered] I thought the Nomad plugins were untethered?

Maybe my insomnia is catching up to me and making me imagine things, but I thought I was able to use the Nomad plugins in other programs.  I could have sworn I did use them in other programs.  Yet, yesterday I got a popup message saying it was installed with Cakewalk and would not work with other programs.  Is this happening to anyone else?  Was it always like this or did it change?

The Nomad Factory BlueTubes Bundle works exclusively in Sonar...
No other host.  They ARE tethered to Sonar.

Thank you.  Probably was a glitch that allowed them to work previously.

Very likely....the only way that they will work is if you owned them
before buying X3, in which case, they would be free of the Sonar tether..

It would be nice if there was an upgrade option to untethered.  The gate worked well in a video project.

Craig Anderton just said this on another thread:

"Actually, Cakewalk is going in the opposite direction of what the OP thinks. Addictive Drums ($150) is a full version. The Nomad Factory bundle ($199) is a full version. "

AD definitely works in other programs.  It would still be a full version if it did not work in other programs.  It would just be nice if they worked elsewhere.  Not that big of a deal if they don't

The Nomad plugs are the full versions "tethered" to X3.

I have the Nomad collection and the ones in X3 are the same as the unteathered ones I have.

Surely it was obvious that Cakewalk wouldn't offer £200 worth of Blue Tube plugs for less than the upgrade price?

Otherwise some unscrupulous people might just upgrade to get the plugs to use in  studio one  another DAW.

How cheap would that be?

They did that with Addictive Drums.

Exactly.  Me, I had no idea what the Nomad plugins cost.  Heck, EZdrummer cost me $150.00 when I bought it when it first came out.  Now you can find it for $30 - 50 bucks at times.  I figured Cakewalk got a heck of a discount.  And yes, I'd love to use them in Studio One as well.  Or at least be able to use it in X2.

I can't imagine someone upgrading for the purpose of using those plugins in another app.  I was trying to use them in my video editor.  Would have been a nice bonus.

Yes, but that was in the context of not being "lite," "bait-and-switch" versions. The concept of using the plugs in other software was not the focus of the thread.

That said, I was glad to hear that AD works with other programs, but that's not surprising given that XLN sells added content packs...so the more people who use AD, the greater the odds of people wanting extra content. I've also noticed that several Cakewalk plug-ins work in other programs.

Hi-

Just so there is zero confusion, the Nomad Factory Blue Tubes FX are locked to SONAR X3 Studio and Producer. This was the arrangement with Nomad but not to diminish that when you use SONAR X3 (which we are selling), you get the FULL version. The deal with Addictive Drums was different which is really a bonus for those using multiple DAWs.

I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned the irony of the word "Nomad" being applied to something that lacks portability.

I hated seeing the "Kitchen Appliance Center in Berkshire" and "Smooth Wrinkles with Dr. Blurfle's Super Vitality Cream!" spam topics. I said I'd be willing to nuke them if Cakewalk told me how. Only way was to make me an admin, so here I am.

I have used my mod super-powers to delete several spam messages, which always makes me feel warm and tingly. I have also used it to mark threads I've solved as "solved." I haven't banned anyone, did sticky threads, or anything like that. I'm kind of like "Admin Lite."

And I got the whole mess of Nomad plug for $99! Yep I was one of those that got in on a "No Brainer" deal.

Having never heard any of their plugs, I went on advise from users on this forum that said if you didn't own them, now was the time to get 'em! And I was so glad I did.

I'll look for the place that sold them to me for that price and post back. Maybe this will jog someone's memory and they can say where it was. I got all the info on what price and where to get them here on these forums. Software forum I think IIRC.

It was Florida Music Company back in Nov 2011.

One last question on this topic, if I may.  Will these plugins work on future releases of Sonar?  If I use these on a project I hope I can get the same sound in the future.

Thanks,

If the past is any indicator, yes.  Many of us use plugins included with previous versions of Sonar that are no longer included.  The only plugins i have encountered that have some difficulty are because of compatibility due to being 32-bit in 64-bit environment and even most of those work just fine.

Ugh!! I know! When I went to 64bit I just rather not use 32bit plugs. But when I open an old project.....there they are. At least X3 now offers me to replace them.
