Any 2nd week problem/kudos reports on Dorchester? Seems pretty quiet.
Hi, guys. Kind of out of comission today from crummy pain crap (stoopid weather) so thought I'd check in to see how people are faring with the new release. We had that one thread where a few folks were having some issues but scanning the thread queue it seems that was pretty isolated. I'm guessing no news is good news (otherwise people would be wigging). Maybe if I'm still feeling crummy tommorrow I'll d/l and update if folks are indeed finding it reasonably trouble free. Cheers.

Thanks. I'm about to start learning how to use Drum Maps but don't really use track templates so maybe that won't affect me? As far as Boost11 (and plugins in generally)... do these monthly updates reinstall all the plugins too along with the main installer? Obviously I don't need Boost11 reinstalled since I've got every Sonar version since X1 on this machine. If so then I guess that would affect me but I never use the bugger anymore anyway. Not sure how that would/could affect me but I'll read your thread to see what the fallout is of that issue. Cheers.

If I am reading that correctly you have Boost11 (and all your other plugs) installed on your D drive? I thought those were better off living on the program drive (along with SOnar) seeing as how they are programs. My plugs live on my C drive anyway so I'm guessing that would not even affect my install. Thanks.

I expect boost11 to behave the same as any other plugin during installs (where I put my plugins is irrelevant a bug is a bug). In a nutshell Cakewalk say they fixed the Boost11 installation issue in the Dorchester release notes but it isn't. If you use default path's it should not effect you although a new version of it seems to be built and overwritten on every release. And Track templates seem to be crashing "randomlyish" if you are using multiple tracks (perhaps). People have validated the issue and is a PITA for me. Not sure if it's drummaps or not at this stage. For further discussion probably best to stick to those threads.

Yeah, that's cool. Wasn't questioning/diminishing your reasons. Just trying to understand the issue to wrap my head around whether it might bite me in the butt. I appreciate you pointing those things out and I will have to keep an eye out for the track template thing. It is possible I may start setting some up as my endeavours get more elaborate and I'm getting a feel for what I like. If they bork out right off the bat that would annoy me especially if I didn't know what was going on. Anyway... thanks. Cheers.

No problem - I just stated my config was irrelevant in than context because it's true. I wasn't getting irritated about it sorry if it appeared that way.

I had some early issues that turned out be more related to some Windows mouse and screen settings. After several more days since I found the problem, I've had no more recurrence of weird 2nd monitor glitchy windows issues.
So all good here. As Craig said, you can always rollback. Which is a painless process that I also tried back to Cambridge then forward to Dorchester again. Easy peasy.

I'm liking these releases and the bugs they quash. In a way iit seems they have been treated as a priority over the drum replacer, I hope so. Not to knock it, it won't be of use to me, but it will be for others. I wonder if it was planned for an earlier inclusion, but they thought better. I wonder if they will start to reach a point, being that Sonar is now one version, where the volume of fixes will drop away, where they will have the space to focus and release more core new features, as well as not leave Staff View on the shelf.

Cool, guys. Might install today in that case. I have been having some slight quirkiness with Braintree so maybe this will resolve that as well. Want to get my hands on the virtual keyboard too so I can really dig in on my synth/instrument studies without always having to set up a controller. Thanks.

I'm looking forward to ccc getting updated so I can get rollback-able I've done the updates right away so far and the worst gotcha (for my use) has been the Control Bar problem with S-PlatC

I had 2 (SONAR Plt) crashes yesterday, when trying to use change velocity on a SI String section midi clip using clip fx / velocity. Have not done it that way before, so I am not sure whether it was user error, or not.

Really bold of Cake to do "What's next", rather alone doing that. And TBH, I'm not sure it's smart from a sales point of view. "What's New" though will always impress - it's what most get in a year every month, not far from. And also show dedication on doing fixes etc. Sales psychology is more about building imagination and dreams forward, expectations and so on. We might think we want all the facts, but really, we don't.... but as Manuel in Faulty Towers used to say - I know noooooooooooothing....

Hi, Jonesey (and bz)... I'm sticking with the old versions of Dim/Rap so that's not a concern. I'm actually thinking I made the right choice now by waiting for this release based on this thread and just looking at the forum vibe. I'll probably squat on this one for a few months as well and see what comes down the pipe. The new monthly additions are nice but I've got so much now it's doubtful I'll really NEED any new stuff and I mostly just want things as stable/problem free as possible. Honestly I think X3 was a little more stable than Braintree but it had some really annoying quirks that affected my personal workflow that Platinum fixed so it was a bit of an even trade (more hangs/crashes but saved time/annoyance by the bugs being gone). If Dorchester resolves those core instability issues so I can push it harder worry free without annoying issues (like the CB bug that wasn't a big deal but I didn't want to deal with it and some of the other Cambridge compaints) then that is awesome. I didn't really play with it too much yesterday but did check out the Virtual Keyboard. It confused me a little at first but once I figured it out it was extremely responsive which is a good sign for stability (especially with a new and kind of complex feature). I was just using it to trigger AD2 (which was the only synth I had loaded in my tester project) but it was automatic, snappy and just worked. No latency or weird routing. One thing that seems to have really improved is related to the new FX "Rack" (as opposed to the old Bin... kind of weird they changed the name but whatever). I used to get some quirks, hangs and even hard crashes/corruptions when Ctrl/Drag copying VSTs from track to track. I have to do this often with my multitracked/layer guits and it always caused a bit of anxiety because I knew that bad stuff could happen. Now things just drag and drop trouble free. It's faster (it used to be a little hesitant even when it was working now it is smooth as silk). It's obvious there is something going on under the hood with all that that is just more stable/reliable. I would still like them to allow us to simply link our VST instances so I don't have to constantly do that but the fact I don't have to hold my breath while doing it is nice. And that freaking horrendous jumping bug in X3 that made it so when you clicked between tracks with lanes open it would jump to the parent track (instead of keeping focus on what you were looking at) being gone has saved me an ENORMOUS amount of time and angst. That drove me up the freaking wall. lol Anyway... just blathering about my experiences so far. I actually did some REAL work recently for an actual client (which is now completed) so I've been working a lot with SPlat... just haven't been really posting about it all because all my brainspace was going into that instead of boring you guys. But... I'm baaaaaaack. lulzity Cheers.

There are definitely more pluses with Dorchester than minuses. I hope those two regression bugs get fixed in the next release. The track templates issue is killing me. There are also a number of track templates issues reported in the problem reports forums.

Something new for me. I don't recall the last time Sonar was so crash prone for me...
