Anyone having issues with A/V while trying to install?

Yeah, Windoew Defender and my antivirus both flagged the Bandlab Assistant, but I ignored them both. I think they don't like the "phone home" feature. So far my system seems to be OK.

The install stalled during extraction (I think because A/V kicked back in after 10 minutes) and I aborted it. Now the assistant still says "installing" even though I've logged out and in. How can I restart it?

Nevermind, M$101 - reboot. Beginning to think "free" may not be worth the price of dealing with the BL Assistant "virus" triggers...

Installed and working. I'm coming from X3, which I never got fully comfortable with so also have 8.5p installed.

SHS and Artist do not have the full PC, they have Mixstrap, a feature introduced in Music Creator 7. CbB not only includes all the Style Dials bundled with SHS and Artist; it has all the ProChannel modules that were bundled with Platinum. The QuadCurve EQ is much nicer that the MixStrip EQ in SHS and Artist.

It comes with the Overloud Reverbs?  If so, that is surprising.

Just a follow up.
There were no theme files in either the Cakewalk or the Sonar Theme Folders..Hmm

So I opened Splat, In preferences/themes I chose EDIT, didn't do anything, used "save as"  Named it "My Tung"  It put a  sth. file in the Sonar Theme folder.  I copied that to the Cakewalk Theme folder ( Just realized I could have done this as part of the save as, duh)
Opened Bandlab, Preferences/Themes and the loaded up no problem. So that was a biggy solved. Once again saved by Steve.
One day with the Mercury theme and I was going crazy...

IS there a complete list which functions/plugins are in the new DAW Cakewalk by bandlab without heaving Sonar Platinum before

Reason: I give the information to new CbB user that VocalSync and Drum Replacer are in the Core Application of CbB.
They find VocalSync but no drum replacer

I've been a happy user of Cakewalk Music Creator for years. For several days now, I've been enjoying Cakewalk by Bandlab: I'm still familiar with the interface and user experience, but I benefit from some more advanced capabilities. It's really, really nice.
However, there are still a few VSTs (instruments in Kontakt Player) that I'm unable to use. I'm not sure if Bandlab Cakewalk is to blame, or rather my installing of those instruments (they work in Music Creator).
On the contrary, there are a few (free) VSTs that I was unable to load in Music Creator, and that show up in Bandlab.
Finally, I would really recommend this new Cakewalk to anyone.

Edit: Cakewalk was not to blame for my VST issues. I managed to fix them all.
So now, I'm a 100%-happy Cakewalk/Bandlab user!

I've downloaded & installed it 2 different times successfully from Bandlab Assistant. (Serial number stayed the same both times).

1st time was from Bandlab Assistant on a Win7-64bit image with Sonar X1 Studio & VS-100 USB audio interface. Ran a few of my VST-heavy test Projects-No problems. After a couple of days, realized I didn't need Sonar X1 Studio any longer since I never used the few free extra goodies it came with, so I Revo-Uninstalled it, CbB, & Bandlab Assistant. Spent an hour or so cleaning Windows & the registry.

2nd time I installed directly from the Cakewalk.exe file I saved from My Downloads, but CbB was in Demo mode. Revo-Uninstalled it, cleaned registry, CCleaned, etc.

3rd time I (correctly) downloaded & installed it from Bandlab Assistant (like the 1st time). Serial number is the same as the 1st install.

Lots of improvements from X1 Studio. I'm on a quad-core laptop from 2012 so sometimes I want to use it outside and don't want to lug around my audio interface & MIDI keyboard. With onboard audio and WDM KS driver mode (or ASIO4ALL, which is just a WDM-wrapper), Sonar X1 was a mess-high latency with underruns and dropouts all the time so I never bother going 'portable' with Sonar X1. With CbB I can use WASAPI Exclusive driver mode with low latency & high reliablity with the onboard audio, finally.

Plus the other tweaks and improvements from 6 years of development from X1. Learning about the new features like Ripple Edit, improved Audio Snap, & Groove tools, Matrix View, etc. GUI improvements-it is easier to navigate too despite having more functionality than X1. Plus just having a QWERTY virtual MIDI keyboard is great.

It reminds me of why I never bothered upgrading beyond Sonar X1 Studio - I wanted all of the core features of Sonar Platinum, but didn't want the extra 3rd-party goodies since I have most of the Waves plugins and a boatload of soft synths already.

Install went surprisingly smooth, no AV warnings of any kind. Things work fine.

I was a bit annoyed by the BA autostart in the beginning, until I was able to tweak it away.
Also miss an option to select which browser the MixEditor starts in. Was forced to change my default browser.

Missing a 32-bit version, but I can live without it.

Overall very satisfied and pleased.

With some trepidation, I downloaded and installed it over my latest version of Sonar Platinum and it seems to be working fine. What a relief that Sonar (Cakewalk) has found a new home! Now I just need to figure out how I can use Bandlab. I listened to some pieces that people had done on Bandlab and I was very impressed (maybe even a little jealous). Maybe this will start a new era in my musical development.

I'm not sure what your concern is exactly. We had the Command console with Sonar and now we have a similar thing with BandLab assistant. Others have cross checked it for any kind of virus or spyware and it's clean. You can turn off BandLab assistant after you download CbB.

After using it now for about a total of 16 hours I'll say this-- no more random crashes. And I'm purposly NOT saving all the time which seemed to be the fix for SPlat crashing.

So to anybody sitting on the fence- Jump over, it's an update and they seemed to have made this version more compatable with W10.

The only thing to be aware of is you need to do a few things like import your track templates and mess with the Plug in scanner. Otherwise it's working better than Splat for me. I probably will remove the Splat shortcut and forget about it.

I actually didn't have to do anything with the plugin manager. In fact, it went one better than what I had in my Splat install.

I didn't realise but I had separate paths for, for instance VST/FXpansion/BFD2 and VST/FXpansion/BFD3

In the new version this has been rationalised to just VST/FXpansion.

There were a couple of other anomalies as well which the BLA managed to sort out.
No paths were omitted from my Splat install when building the new paths.

I'm a Sonar Pro owner and upgraded to CbB. The new core update added a few Pro channel modules and everything else acted basically the same as my Pro version. Interestingly, I was able to add the new modules and a few edits and saved the CbB project. I went back and was able to open the CbB project into Sonar Pro and only had a missing plugs dialogue for the Pro channel modules . So this seems to be a backwards / forwards compatible update. Hoping that a future update will bring this up to a full featured Splat compatible install.

Re: Any opinions of Bandlab after downloading and installing? 2018/04/13 05:25:55 (permalink)
Download and Installation: Some anti-virus software might better be switched off while installing, then it's smooth.
First launch: No VST neither instruments nor fx. Closed it and launched again: The plugin routine started and worked heavily.
Some of the VSTs were found, but in case of instruments the sound libraries didn't come up. I'll have to find out where they are. That's strange, because all the VSTs are in the same VST folder that used to be effective for the "old" Sonar.
This applies only for some "minor" VSTIs, however, in some of my projects they play an important role, but are silent now. Will keep you up to date.
I like the dark surface actually, cause you see the clips and automation lanes better. They almost glow. (Don't need a lava lamp then  )
After the first shock, I had turned to ProTools, learned a lot which is also useful with Sonar. So I think I will keep a "parallel production line", some things might work better here, some others there. And most of the plugins which I became aware of in PT also work as VST, so I can use them either way. I am very happy to have the choice since Cakewalk is back.

If you do not like the dark PRV, copy the TungstenTheme.fth from the SONAR 2017.10 program folder into C:\Cakewalk Content\Cakewalk Themes changing the file extension to .sth. You may also change the name of the file if you wish. Then load the theme in Cakewalk Preferences.

Also check the VST paths in Preferences along with the rest of preferences. This ls a new product and you have to set it up like one.

Hello! Is it possible to share the theme TungstenTheme.fth from the SONAR 2017.10 ?
I would love to work on light colored piano roll.
Thanks in advance!
Best,
Dimi

I just cloned a 128gb to a 500gb ssh. I have splat as well as Console one and some Waves plugins. I opened some older projects with Cakewalk by BandLab and it just worked flawlessly! I wonder have there been any updates? How would we know?

There have been updates every month since its release. The updates have been announced pn this forum. Run BandLab Assistant, open the App tab. If CbB is not current there will be an Update button. The version is shown in the CbB About screen. The current version is build 32 of 2018-08.
