Anybody have a problem with my sig file?

Does anybody else other than artsoul have a problem with the sentiments expressed in my sig file? The moderators here don't seem to think so, at least I haven't been contacted by them. And if they don't then I don't, and tough to anyone that does have a problem with it. It's not obscene or pornographic.

    Nope, I'm with you Jack.

You're not a Ted Nugent fan by chance?

Nope... as a matter of fact I love it.

I'm a NRA Endowment mamber myself. I have a "Ted Nugent for President" bumper sticker on my pick up.

I don't hunt, but I know how to..... and I love punching small 9mm holes in things.

    Guns?

Uh, I have about 20. I enjoy skeet, clays, trap, 5 stand... I probably love the shotgun thing the best. But I also really enjoy long distance shooting (over 300 yards - more work than people know) and pistols.

The only hunting I like is wing. It is a totally different sport than say deer. Here in Texas, people put out feeders all year long, then in deer season, they shoot a deer at a feeder using a 30-06 and a high power scope. That is not very sporting to me.

However, Quail, Chukar, Pheasant... That is all reactionary - the bird fly and you have to aim right then and there. No patience. No guaranteed hit. It is an adrenaline rush. And we eat all that we shoot. No trophy hunting for me.

I am also a believer that you cannot wait for the government to assist you if someone breaks into your home. Police are overstretched. Their jobs have become more of the clean-up variety than the prevention. Also, the government is less and less on our side of ANY issue - much less gun control.

For those of you with strong anti-gun policies, I just ask - "Do you think any criminal really cares if guns are legal or not? Do you believe that by banning guns, citizens are safer from criminals?" Is DC a safe place? I have been there countless times and I don't think so.

I too am a member of the NRA.

My two fave pistols - I have a Nighthawk Larry Vickers custom 1911. It is unbelievable. It is probably the finest craftsmanship of ANYTHING I own.

I also have this: A S&W 460 XVR - outfitted exactly like this. It is to protect myself against some of the Russian Boars (est 2MM) running wild in Texas. A bunch of them get up to like 600lbs or more and are omnivores. For reference, this has a 12" barrel and a Hornady 200mg load puts out a fireball about the size of a basketball. This is somewhat intimidating to the uninitiated. It makes my fillings hurt.

I have trouble finding a place to shoot. Here in NC it's harder and harder to find a safe place to shoot.... there are a few ranges... for a membership fee and a per visit fee. Many farmers are leasing their land to hunting clubs, and the woods that used to be behind my house are gone and in it's place is now a housing development. I guess I'll have to look harder to find a place to keep my skills up.

With a CCW my choice of CW is on my site.

My carry is a H&K P7. Really compact 9mm that is a tack driver. Great safety too. It would be NEARLY impossible to accidentally fire the thing.

Well, I don't agree with you by a long shot. But I have no problem with it. I'm pretty much of the mind that people are allowed to think what they think, believe in what they believe in, just as I am. No restrictions, no exeptions. I often find myself the most liberal person in the room, which is fine because I'm SO liberal that I think whatever anyone thinks/believes/does is their own business unless it affects me. So keep on keepin on Jackn2mpu, just don't shoot me and we'll be cool...

[image of jinga as tough Wise Guy comes crashing down]

I don't particularly like guns, either. Would use one without batting an eye, though, if needed - I did visit a shooting range just for the heck of it. But we don't have as many guns here in Holland, fortunately. Getting a license isn't as easy, either.

And I'm not condemning weapons per se, it's a different country, different traditions. I even think it should be easier in Holland, if you had no prior convictions etc. you should be able to carry one, if you wanted to.

I believe Switzerland is an example where everybody who was in the Army has an automatic army rifle at home, with their army kit. Yet it only happened once since WWII anyone fired one in anger.

Let's cover several replies with one post:
Clean: yep, big Nugent fan. Some of the great guitar work of all time. Once sat 15 feet from his amp stack at Great Adventure here in NJ and my ears rang for 3 days while my wife fell asleep. This was back in his Gibson Byrdland days; now he plays a Les Paul it look like. Does Gibson even make the Byrdland anymore?
Guitarhacker: where'd you get the sticker? Would like one myself.
Space Cowboy: knew you were one of the good guys. I've tried clay shooting and quite frankly I'm not that good at it. I do love the P7M8 which is the one I assume you're talking about. H&K's are my absolute fav semi-auto. Colts for wheelguns. BTW, my wife is also an NRA Life Member; nice to have someone to share a hobby with. Now with the 8.3.1 Sonar update and if I could only get a CCW in NJ I'd be in hog heaven.
jinga: We don't have to agree on everything; that's what makes this country of ours great. Ordinarily I wouldn't have done or said anything, but artsoul (who I didn't call out - he fired the first shot (ouch) started this in another thread here and I just thought if he was getting hot under the collar about my sig file sentiments, then someone else might also. Apparently he's the only one and quite frankly I'm not ready to go politically correct for anyone. I always know my target.

It's always cool to find kindred souls in unexpected places.

I have no problem with guns and those who own them.

However, before my kids hang out at your house, I need to see that all of them are locked up and there is no way our kids will shoot each other.

Secondly, I honestly do not believe I could shoot another human being. If you own guns you have to be prepared to use them. If our society goes Mad Max in the next few years I will load up, but for now, I hope that I can just hand over all my possessions and I will live to see another sunrise.

Yes, I am a pathetic liberal too.

no problem with anyone's signature (and I keep changing mine!). After all, it is still a free country (here in the US) and what you put in your signature is your own damn business - tho we all can see it.

I'm not a gun-fan, but there are so much hunters in Finland that I don't have a problem with guns in general, though handguns can be a bit tricky...

One thing though: I think the cliché "Guns don't kill, people do" is wrong. It's the existence of guns that kills. The more guns you have around, the bigger the risk that any conflict turns into a kill-or-get-killed-situation. I think most people, even many of the trained ones, are not cool-headed enough to carry a handgun. You see / read about it regularily: When one shot is heard everyone starts shooting in frenzy.

In places like US or Afghanistan you've gone past the point of no return. There's no way to cut the number guns even if the government wanted to.

I don't have a problem with your signature Jack.

Personally, I think anyone who does have a problem with it should grow a pair and deal with it.

One or 2 members have been more than just a little touchy about certain subjects in recent weeks.

Maybe a little of the truth hurts..........

Surely there are far, far more important things to consume people's attention these days than getting upset on a message board.

Thanks all for the vote of confidence; I won't be changing a thing. This thread shows civil discourse at it's best.

    Kalle:
Granted, there are some that are not suited for carrying, let alone posessing guns. I'm cool with that. At least in the US (don't know about other countries) those who chose to be armed are amongst the most law-abiding people around. The hoary old Dodge City shoot-em-up scenarios that the anti-gun crowd likes to cite when a state is talking about allowing personal carry (open or concealed) has never happened. Sure, you have your Columbines, and due to the news mentality of "if it bleeds, it leads" those stories get the publicity.

And on the subject of Uncle Ted (another NRA Lifer), kind of surprised he plays a PRS. He does have the huge hands for it though. I've tried them and just can't get used to the feel of the neck. Too chunky for me, even more so than the fat 50's LP necks. I do like the sound and looks, though.

    I do the gun thing.

I'm very suspicious of people who proudly boast about their gun thing.

The NRA is a lobby that promotes fear in society to promote sales of firearms and accessories... They're not conservative enough for my taste.

Ted Nugent is self admitted Statutory Rapist. I've got no use for the son of a **** and I despise the fact that he has rallied the gun advocates behind him as if he's some sort of gentlemen hunter. Gun nuts should put Ted up to the wall and clean the herd...

IMO, It's just crazy that one would get all gun rights righteous and then put up a freaking rapist as the poster child of personal freedom.

Jack, your statement: "in the US... those who chose to be armed are amongst the most law-abiding people around." is ridiculous... I mean let's be real... but now that I know your slinging... I'll try to be a bit more polite ;-) We've got our rights... why rationalize with crazy statements? The statement seems to undermine the relevance of a self defense sidearm.

Space, "My carry is a H&K P7. Really compact 9mm that is a tack driver. Great safety too. It would be NEARLY impossible to accidentally fire the thing." That's a good thing... because if that gun goes off and you actually hit someone with the 9 they are gonna be pissed off... and then they may just beat the daylights out of you... ;-) ;-) (hint that's a double wink)

I'm OK with the Guns and Rock n' Roll thing but which God are you referring to?

I've noticed quite a few Christian emblems on show in the forums, but I can't imagine that there aren't quite a few (lots I suspect) Muslims amongst the Sonar user base. Anyway it doesn't really matter as their Allah is the same guy as the Christian's God and the Jew's Jehovah. No, don't shoot me!

I support the local Pheasant Shoot and do a bit of clay shooting myself but I'm actually happy that it's now extremely hard to acquire a Fireams Licence here.

I have a shirt that sez:

"Guns don't kill people, people in Texas with daughters do."

Its a good one when boys come over that remind me of myself at their age.

if I could only get a CCW in NJ I'd be in hog heaven.

you need one up there. I used to live in NJ.... I had to get a firearms license from the local PD just to buy a Coleman 761 air rifle...and that was back in 1973...still have it BTW... in working condition..... use it on varmints.

EDIT: Oh yeah you asked about the Ted for Prez sticker.... it is a custom made sticker sold by a local motorcycle shop owner... if you want their phone number email me.

If our society goes Mad Max in the next few years I will load up, but for now, I hope that I can just hand over all my possessions and I will live to see another sunrise.

I'd never shoot someone over material things. But to defend my wife or daughter, I would do it without hesitation. I am willing to live and let live, but unfortunately not everyone shares that sentiment. So if someone forces me into the position to where I have to choose between them living or my family living, I choose my family. I would rather just never be put in that position, but sometimes we don't have a choice. It sucks, but that's life.

I hear ya OFF, but it is my wife who won't let me arm.

I joke about getting one once in a while, but she is dead serious - no guns in our house or she leaves and takes the kids.

And I agree with you - I would shoot someone threatening my wife or kids, but looks like I won't ever have the option.

"I'd had a lovely supper, and all I said to my wife was 'That piece of halibut was good enough for Jehovah'."

"There you go - you just said it again - you're only making it worse for yourself"

"Worse, how can it be any worse?".
    "Jehovah, Jehovah"

Always look on the bright side of life.

In that case a baseball bat can work very well, especially if you are able to get the element of surprise on your side. Then there's always kitchen knives and things like that.
I have one of those retractable police batons in my center console in my truck. Never needed it yet, but nice to know i have the option.
