Quick question... Does "extract individual hits" mean that this can pull samples for use in say Session Drummer 3, or that it simply "removes" them discreetly? (I.e. is this sampling capability?)

It means you can get the time of all kick drums, for example, from a drum mix (in most cases). Those hit markers can be used to trigger samples in Drum Replacer, or can be converted to MIDI by dragging the clip to a MIDI track. It does not mean you can "lift" a sample from a mix.

I'm sure there is more info coming but that material seems to imply we'll be able to load samples right into the DR thingie. If so kind of curious how that will work and what kind of files we can cram in there... and I guess whether that gets printed right to audio. Like choose hit(s), load sample, sample audio replaces original audio. That could do some interesting stuff and with a few extra steps accomplish what I think mettulus was asking about (drag copy a hit from audio to create a one shot sample the drag it into the DR load section). Probably pipe dreaming but you got me ole imagination abuzz. Looking forward to a vid of this in action. No need to reply. I'm just brainpoopin. Edit: and I've been curious about those CF drum samples (almost snagged a kit a while back with some of the Cake bucks we got for something or other but got something else instead)... so that's a nice add on.

Thats my main question too really.....will we be able to use our own drum samples like you can by just dropping a file onto the appropriate drum in session drummer or is it a proprietary format?

I'm looking forward to playing with this. It just might open up a whole new area for recording drum tracks for us non-drummers.

Yeah it seems intriguing to me too, though likely for different reasons than most - I hardly ever (well basically never) record real drums but it could be a very cool creative tool to misuse...

As someone who records multi-track drums all the time, I am looking forward to giving this a try. Having said that, there are already mechanisms for doing this in Sonar, such as using AudioSnap or Melodyne to generate midi notes from audio transients and using those midi notes to trigger a sampler or drum synth. What intrigues me, though, is the potential to detect a particular drum from a mix. Although I mic each drum individually, sometimes bleed from another drum is detected as a beat (which I usually edit out manually). If Cakewalk's new tool takes care of that aspect, it will definitely save me time.

Wow, looks pretty kewl. The only hesitation I'd have is if it doesn't use Melodyne math for any of its work. Despite the revamp of Audiosnap there's still some transient weirdness, and with drums that could be disastrous. But heck, I'm on board. Could make building tracks VERY quick, since I use a stock drumbeat to write to and go back and "beef it up" later right before mixing anyway.

Sweet. Just realized this is going to come in handy for a live of the floor project I should have gotten polished up ages ago. Good thing I procrastinated because this should make it a lot simpler. lol

Cakewalk is making good on its promise to deliver these new features, and the fact that we don't have to wait a year or more as we used to (and still do with other software) is a very welcome approach. Well done so far!

I'm interested. I have definitely used drum augmentation in the past. This looks like a big time saver.

Wet your pants if you like... But spare a thought for the poor drummer .. All his life playing at the back of the stage... Never getting any attention... And now this...
We need your help.. For just 1 dollar a month you can keep a drummer eating.
For 2 dollars you can contribute towards his drug fueled existence.
For 3 dollars he may get on X factor.
Folks.. The drummer is nearly extinct.. The studios he plays in have all but disappeared.. Please give generously..
And if you give now you will get a free pair of drum sticks as a special thank you..

Is there going to be a way to integrate a 3rd party drum instrument? I've invested thousands of dollars in Superior Drummer and it's content. I don't want to spend yet more money on drum packs from yet another vendor.

Based on the reply I got (post #3), I am *assuming* this is similar to AS in that it will create a MIDI track of events it detects which can be then used to drive any drum VSTi. Sort of the previous methods of drum enhancement with the added feature of removing the initial drum sound from the mix. (Pure speculation, of course, but the MIDI track was stated.)
