I am planning to have to create my own beats and such. I have numerous songs that I did a few years ago with a drummer, and they are very rough recordings that I never got to finish. My intention is to recreate his beat and re-record the songs. If that makes sense. But yes, I have all intent in having to do my own work, just like having to program a drum machine. I was never that good at doing it, but I also never dedicated too much time to learning how to do it.

yes, it will be "similar" to programming a drum machine, but also very different. there will be a learning curve if you're not familiar with entering MIDI notes in a window using the mouse.

Haha, not familiar in the slightest. I'm sure I will be driving my daughter crazy as I learn how to use this thing. She's itching to start recording some stuff, so I know she is going to be mighty impatient. My wife, on the other hand, will also probably lose her mind listening to me make goof up after goof up, and sweat at the computer time after time after time.

FINALLY got word that the dang thing has shipped! I am expecting to get that UA-1G here today. So now it is just a waiting game. In the meantime, I have been digging through a bunch of the older threads. This seems like a wise move, as I am finding out what problems I can expect, and to not get frustrated, and if I have too many problems to just ask you folks a question. Seems I can save hours of headaches if I just read these threads and/or ask a question.

Well, you can go ahead and install the software, hit the Cakewalk Support website for any updates. Then you can see if it works by setting Windows Media Player to play through it.

Ya know, for poops and grins I re-installed Multitrack recorder today, just to see how the interface works. I had a blast with it at first. Then I loaded up an OLD song I had previously done in the studio, and added another track to it. I come to find out that the UA-1G doesn't seem to like over drive pedals. Both my Hagstrom 1 ( a single coil guitar) and my Hagstrom Viking 1N ( a humbucker style, completely different style and sounding guitar) sound exactly alike through my RAT pedal hooked up to the interface. I think what I am experiencing is not so much the distortion of the pedal, but rather the interface saying "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING TO ME!?!" I think I will wait for Cakewalk and Amplitube and run a clean channel and mess with it in the Amplitube program.

This wait sucks. Can I ask another question before the program shows up? Will I be able to hear my guitar, with distortion, while recording? Or will I not hear a guitar in the mix until after the recording is done? I know the multichannel program I have on here does not let me hear it, and it drives me batty.

you can do that if you use the INPUT ECHO button on the track you're recording your guitar to. there will be an "ECHO" audible, but if your latency is low then it will be minimal. your soundcard will have much lower latency than your onboard soundcard did, but I don't know if it will be low enough on your system to use without a bad echo for real time tracking with FX. you won't know for certain if it's low enough for that until you get everything hooked up and try it, but it's possible.

All part of the learning curve, right? Just did some wonderful tracking with this dang multichannel freebie. Killed the program when I tried to mix it down. Dang it. The wait is now seriously killing me. :)

O.K., I have it loaded up now. But I do seem to be having a small issue. I get this message when I fire it up: "The following plug-ins are reffered to by this project but could not be found. They may be missing or improperly installed on your system." This is in regards to Amplitube. Then it goes on to tell me some way of re-installing the program. Yet when I installed MC5 it finished with telling me it was successfully installed. Am I just missing the registration for Amplitube? If so, where do I find that aspect? Loving the way the program looks so far.

Ah, it could be the problem with the program thinking I am using a 32 bit program it says, while I am actually on a 64 bit. Is there some way of correcting that?

you need to register amplitube. open your default project, on the guitar track click on the arrow beside the FX and then double click on amplitube. it will give you instructions how to register. you'll need your registration number which should be in the box on the disk cover.

I click on that and it still tells me "this plug in is missing." It's not even giving me an option for anywhere to enter the registration number. When I click on the info thingy, it takes me to this page: Missing a plugin? This can happen if you're opening a project file that contains a plugin that is not installed on your computer or if your project references a 32-bit plugin and you're using a 64-bit system. To find out more about the plugins missing from your project - click the links below to visit KVR's plug-in database When I click there, I don't get any info at all.

give us some time....some of have to work sometimes. our bosses sometimes get upset if we play around on the forums all day! ok. you've got it registered, but MC won't recognize it. this looks like the vst scanner has not picked it up. first, I'm at work, so I don't have MC in front of me, so this may be a little difficult to work thru. worst case I can look stuff up when I get home. you need first to figure out where amplitube was installed. hopefully it was installed in the cakewalk default vst directory but we need to verify that. use windows explorer and look at C:\PROGRAM FILES\CAKEWALK\SHARED VST and see if you see a file in there or a folder in there that looks like amplitube or something similar but you're looking for a file with the extension of .dll once you find it, open MC, go to OPTIONS>GLOBAL>VST PLUGINS and add that directory path to the scan list by clicking on the ADD FOLDER button and navigating to that folder. then click on the SCAN VST button then try to open amplitube again when it's done.
