Midiboy I can confirm that as well. The additional content is the Artist stuff. If you have either Artist or Plat, you do NOT need to download that. Save yourself a 1GB dl.
What if I own Platinum but don't have it installed? I'm planning on reinstalling Windows soon and want to know if I can use only Bandlab Assistant going forward, or if I will have to install Platinum legacy first in order to get all my plugins/instruments

Certain plugs that came with Plat are NOT included. You have to have them installed. (Melodyne, AD2, etc.).

*** EDIT *** I get what's streamlined, no 3rd party plugs which is understandable. Why is it "Streamlined"? I like my Sonar just fine. Don't streamline me. ......waiting.

Anyone tried out the new setting for the piano roll?

Downloaded and installed - all working fine. Just one thing (as mentioned by others) I was a lifetime purchaser and now Cakewalk by Bandlab is only valid until 04-10-2018. Restarted Windows to see if that made a difference - it didn't. The question now is - will we have to connect once a week to keep the installation valid? I wouldn't be too happy about that as I try to keep my DAW machine off the internet as much as possible.

I just want to know if I can completely migrate and only use Bandlab Assistant, given a clean machine. I own SONAR Platinum but I don't want to have to install 2 DAWs

Yeah I'd have to do that, like I currently do with my full versions of AD2 and TH2 and Melodyne 4 essential, but I just want to know whats included with the basic install.. what about Dimension Pro, or VX64 Vocal Strip for example

Loaded up a small project in the new Cakewalk. Same interface as Platinum - The branding now say Cakewalk in place of Sonar Platinum. All my plugs loaded (>100) except for 3, which I assume just require re-authorization. No issues. Thanks Noel and Meng!

The new version reset my Control Bar modules but that only took a minute to re-do. I haven't spotted any other issues. The PRV now has a dark background, so as Meng said, easier on the eyes. Clicking on 'Help/Documentation' there's a page saying the manual hasn't been migrated yet with links to it elsewhere pro tem. 'Help/Support' goes to a support link all in place. And as others have pointed out, I'm a 'member' for six months to 4th October 2018. I loaded a project from yesterday (the recent files were all still showing under 'File') and nothing burped. So, all good so far. I bought full Melodyne and Addictive Drums so I can't speak for those that had the 'included with Sonar' versions.

Quick update - will sticky this at my first post too - the 04-10-2018 is just an arbitrary 6 month date set for authorization checks - it's confusing and will be removed! It's NOT an expiry date :-)

Open a BandLab page. That's it. Then you can download the latest version of 'Sonar Platinum' as was, now called 'BandLab Cakewalk'. I suggest using the same email address on BandLab that you used for Sonar.

Having a problem with Synth Rack, it will not change from Sort by Category. It is leaving a huge Uncategorised list. My custom list shows but will not come up. Anyone else having this problem? Fixed. Altered the settings in the 'plug in window' (which is below in my browser setup). This altered the settings for the synth rack as well.

msmcleod Plantinum is still there for me, and still works fine, however... I started SPLAT and changed some of the categories of some of my plugins. When I went to do the same in BL Cakewalk it was already done for me, which leads me to believe it's sharing SPLAT's registry settings or config files. Something to keep in mind. M.
Thank you for the information!
