aidanodr Does this mean they have ported PLATINUM to Mac???
Yeah it only took a couple of days... Kidding :-P No the Mac version of BandLab assistant allows access to the loop content and of course the BandLab Mix editor today.
Great to see you back in the saddle, Noel!!! Thanks for everything!!

Congratulations to all who made this happen! Oh, and I totally understand not including 3rd party stuff for which BandLab would have to pay royalties and therefore lose money on the program. Think about it - if Cakewalk is free, then it's much easier to justify the cost of Melodyne Studio :)

Worked well for me as well. I only found out about this today via a Facebook post. Yea! I tried a couple of other DAWs over the last few months. But, I am so used to s/Sonar/Cakewalk/g that I found it difficult to switch and not get frustrated and quit ;) My old projects load and run just fine, and Splat is still there as well. Hopeful.

Id imagine you re-install them from the files you downloaded as a backup from the command centre? The STUDIO MIXING FX Suite?

This is an exciting day and I am really happy that Cakewalk lives. I am also a fan of the public having cheap access to powerful DAW and other music making tools. That said, it does burn my ass a bit that a program I previously spent hundreds of dollars on (including the lifetime shenanigans) is now free to all. Makes me feel mighty foolish and acts like more salt in the paid lifetime updates wound (I'm not any manner of a wealthy guy). That said, still really psyched to see where Bandlab takes this, and I'm genuinely happy for those who now get it for free. It will certainly make it easier to collaborate with people.
Tangled roots perplex her ways. Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 DSP, Windows 10 x64, i7 5820k, Asrock X99 OC Formula, 16 GB Corsair DDR4, Asus STRIX GTX 970, SSD's for OS and samples, Akai MPK61, and myriad VST's.

Question: I've got both SONAR and the new Cakewalk by BandLab installed. Can I uninstall SONAR Platinum now, or would that create problems (worrying about losing plugins not just problems with the main program)?

meng Quick update - will sticky this at my first post too - the 04-10-2018 is just an arbitrary 6 month date set for authorization checks - it's confusing and will be removed! It's NOT an expiry date :-)
You might want to also mention that that is October 4th then. Us American's thought it was the 10th of April.
haha i'd assumed it was us format

I'm thinking new users will be paying for the likes of LP-EQ, LP-MB and Adaptive Limiter as they are not installed in this iteration if the installer. On this virgin machine I did install from my saved CCC installers the LP-EQ and LP_MB. They did not appear to need activation of any sort. Boutique FX Setup will not install on this Cakewalk by Bandlab virgin machine. Seems to need SONAR Platnum installed.

Can't do without VX64... In fact, can't really do without anything I've paid for.. I just don't want to install 2 DAWs on my lovely clean Windows installation :)

Then run all the installers that came with SONAR Platinum EXCEPT the 2 SONAR Platinum installers (NOTE: if using the Command Center these 2 installers are the ones run from the SONAR Platinum install option. They appear as a single item in the Command Center)

I am leaving all my Sonar programs on the computer. Then I think that I will still have all the plugins ( without updates).

The progress bar is in the bandlab app that you downloaded first.
Yeah... a little confusing as the progress bar opened underneath all else. The big Cakewalk picture helped with the confusion...

The only drawback I can see so far is the inability to "tell it where to install". With SPLAT installed along side, the CBB .ini will address the multiple drives I used for SPLAT and my samplers/vst/data drives as installed. If functionality appears that truly outdates SPLAT, I could see dropping my install of splat but for now the SPLAT only takes up about 600megs as does CBB core since they share plugs/samples and data and the SPLAT artificially creates the flexibility CBB lacks.

I wouldn't. SONAR Platinum comes with plugs *not* in Cakewalk by Bandlab. Unistalling SONAR Platinum will remove those plugins. JMO.

My post above expands on this but yes, keep it, they reside together nicely and if 600megs makes or breaks your operating drive, you are not going to have a good experience trying to create music on it.

They still use the same shared utilities. BandLab Cakewalk installs like a SONAR upgrade, in its own folders and updates all the Shared folders in the Cakewalk Program Files folder. If you really want to run only Cakewalk and not have a previous version of SONAR available run one of the Clean install options from the Knowledge base http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/Knowledge-Base/2007013392/SONAR-2015-Clean-Install-Instructionshttp://www.cakewalk.com/Support/Knowledge-Base/2007013372/Clean-Install-All-Cakewalk-Softwarethen install Cakewalk run install the parts of SONAR you want. Be careful with step 8.1 of the Clean Install ALL Cakewalk Software. If you use the default "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins" you may NOT want to delete this folder.
