CDs are silver because silver is the colour that humans hear best. MP3s are mud coloured but they were never intended to be used as a medium for listening. MP3s were originally created to hold sounds that scare moles out of your garden.


Ahh yes. Those sounds so high in the spectrum only animals can hear them. Or as my psychiatrist calls them "subliminal messages." No wonder I always feel like doing strange things after listening to a play list of MP3s.

As far as I know there was no actual music until colours were invented in about the 15th century by Donald Coolor, who accidently discovered colour while looking up at the sky. He turned to his wife and said the sky is...and after a pause said.. bloo. His wife had no idea what he was talking about and he suggested that all objects had what he called 'coolor', named after himself. He told her he spent many hours thinking up names for the different coolors. Green Sleeves, a song about a man with a cold and no handkerchief, was the first song ever and even used a coolor to celebrate the fact.

Discos came to the fore because the multi-coloured lights confuses the brain. If you listen to disco music in a dark room you will find the tempo is about 50bpm and sounds like a romantic ballad. Play the same track in the disco and it suddenly speeds up to 170bpm and lyrically or musically it makes no sense. You tend just to hear a constant thud and each record after that sounds like the one before. The body cries out for fluid and people become more attractive especially the longer you're in the environment. That's all due to colourful lighting.


Disco....50BPM...Who ever knew... Man, I seem to learn new stuff every day...by you....!

So does the OP imply that if X1 is much much more colorful, I'll be able to make more happy and colorful music? This is why I think they should give users more color options and at least something in the next update.

It's where does noise become music, bob? They may have squawked but no recordings exist. There is a cave drawing of early man spinning two birds on some pottery turntables and the writing underneath seems to suggest he's saying 'wave your hands in the air like you just don't care'

I have my doubts though.

For example we are hearing different transients based on what we see. Colour and what Bob Katz says about the beige concept could be well good.

It is simple though, all you have to do is close your eyes at some point while you are listening to a mix and you are removing all visual input.

In the 70's when I was really into Hi Fi at the time I was hanging out with a group of perfectionists. One thing that listening to whole sides of records (and of course this is not happening now much) is that you had to sit down in a comfortable spot for say 20 minutes. This often put you into a semi state and of course we all closed out eyes during critical listening tests as well as the longer listening sessions.  This thread made me think of the long listening sessions we had and with our eyes shut. 

It is good to push your monitor right back if you can on an articulated arm right back behind your speakers (reduces reflections and comb filtering effects) and close your eyes to check important mix stuff. Even looking at your DAW playing back may influence what you hear. After tricky edits I always close my eyes and listen over edited sections. In most cases any edits are not heard at all. But if you look at your DAW I swear you can hear your edits.
