Despite my personal CL gripes, the PC in general is great, cant live without it now, if you don't have expanded then its well worth the upgrade, looking forward to some new modules in the near future :-)

The conclusion of this thread , imho , is that Cake should allow a "try " period like 15 dayz for all modules and new coming one ....buying on reviews or pushed by a sale isn't fair for me .....

I just tried the Concrete Limiter and EQ on a drum loop from Session Drummer 3. I set it up so I thought it sounded great, then turned off the whole Pro Channel, and it sounded like I had cotton in my ears. I turned it back on and it sounded great again. Just like with Ivory II and my 12 string, it brought Session Drummer to life !!

Ouch! The Amazon Cloud crash, screwed up my store account, and I need validation.. Going to have to wait till Monday. Really puts a damper on the instant gratification thing.

Hi djwayne Dont know if you have already purchased the CL but if not - wait / dont. I know others here have already referred to them, but about 8 months ago a friend put me on to the toneboosters plugs - see here:- http://www.toneboosters.com/ I'd *never* heard of them and quite frankly just assumed they were yet *another* " bedroom-plugin-with-a-pretty-GUI-but-crappy-sounding " - you know what I mean - theres literally millions of these on the web. Anyway - long story short - these plugs are amazing - you can get the whole suite of 18 [ 14 + 4 free ones ] for only $85EURO I realize thats a bit more than $49US for the CL but its just a total no-brainer. They sound AWESOME - low cpu loads - great GUI - their developer *knows* what he is doing. The mastering-grade brickwall limiter plug [ Barricade ] and the Gate plug are worth the money by themsleves. Plus - and this is just ridiculous - you also get the ReelBus Tape Sim plug also. We A/B'd it to both the Studer and Ampex UAD plugs [ which my studio colleague owns - not me - you probably know my view on UAD ] and it easily does %95 of what the UAD's do - only time you could tel them apart was when you really pushed the signal, the UAD's were much smoother and sonically nicer / warm / real - but that was *only* when you really pushed them really really hard and hot - sonething most users will never do or want to do unless you are specifically going for that sound. Seriously djwayne - buy them - they sound great - are fully VST compliant - are fully standalone - this guy could triple the price and they'd still be a total no-brainer !!! Tim

Too late, I bought CL and love it so much I also bought the Compressor and Expander/Gate just to have the full set while they are on sale. So for $90 I've got it all. The Compressor and Gate are on sale for $19.99 each...That's a pretty good price for Pro Channel plug-ins, I think.

I bought CL after a long wait. The sale and this thread were the final push. Bought it last night and still no serial number. Rang Cakewalk, but of course they're closed 'til Monday. They still managed to take the money, though. Having read of your inital experinces I'm dying to try it. Will just have to wait.

I have checked my store account, It shows the gate and compressor as it should but no serial number or registration number. It was supposed to post within 45 minutes of the sale but no luck, I'm guessing everyone went home for the weekend and there's no one there to review the sale. So it's looking like I'll have to wait till Monday. I think I'll survive....

Other VSTs are very useful but nothing is as handy as a PC module or as CPU friendly. Plus they stack up well against any other choices. I have too many plugins but I only goto a few for the most part. PC offers ease of use and high quality. Its a major improvement to Sonar. One can use any plugin they want but none have the above characteristics.

No I haven't tried the Voxengo limiters...mainly because I'm setting up the Pro Channel to be like the one in the Cakewalk Webinar...there's zillions of plug ins out there, but this is what Cakewalk is using in the Webinar. So far the plan is working out niceley. Having everything routed to the Pro Channel makes sense to me in terms of workflow and latency issues. Using third party plug-ins would be a gamble vrs a sure thing.

Djwayne - glad to hear you've picked up the collection of the ProChannel modules. I've been similarly impressed with their impact on the sound. I know it's a tough choice to cough up more cash each time one of these come out. I'd like to relay an additional experience I've had. I scoffed and ignored the Softube Mix Bundle when it was promoted as something to add to the ProChannel because it was off the charts in price, it was like $179 I think and then to make it work you had to pony up for an iLok and then actually always use the iLok if you wanted to use the Softube stuff. So I dismissed it. Then later I saw and heard the Softube Bundle in action and realized what I was missing. It was really hard to get over the hump to make the purchase. Once I did I was thrilled and wowed. I have various options from the Softube bundle stuff in a lot of my tracks and on my buses. Tough purchase, but amazing results. I wouldn't get by without it now.
Two internal 2TB SSDs laptop stuffed with Larry's deals and awesome tools. Studio One is the cat's meow as a DAW now that I've migrated off of Sonar. Using BandLab Cakewalk just to grab old files when migrating songs.

Another point to consider is cost...Voxengo Elephant is $119 vrs Concrete limiter on sale for $49.99....big difference, expecially when you need to buy mulitple plug-ins. Voxengo has a ton of plug-ins which could run into the $1,000's of dollars before you know it.

Not gonna happen.

@djwayne: I fear you are being mislead by the fact that the CL output volume is on full by default. Do the following: Turn down the output (right-hand slider) of Concrete Limiter whilst comparing the activated and bypassed audio. Find a point where the volume level is the same activated and deactivated. Doesn't make quite the same impact anymore, does it?

Do the following: Turn down the output (right-hand slider) of Concrete Limiter whilst comparing the activated and bypassed audio. Find a point where the volume level is the same activated and deactivated. Doesn't make quite the same impact anymore, does it? The whole point is to increase the presence of the signal which it does compared to a dry track. Yes you can lower the volume of the output but why would you ?? When you can get a much better sound with the output raised. What I'm comparing is CL "on" vrs CL "off"....on my 12 string recording that I just did your test on, the 12 string guitar sounds much richer and fuller with it on than without even with the output volume down. Turning the volume up gives the guitar the much needed presence that I'm looking for...Without the CL my recording sounds bland, with the CL and a bit of EQ, my guitar sounds like the 12 string in the Eagle's song Hotel California. That's a huge difference from the bland recordings I have been getting. Turning the right hand output volume down defeats the whole purpose of the effect. If you're going to turn it off, why bother having it ?? It's not just increased volume, it's increased presence. It makes my guitar stand out, instead of being a bland background sound. Think of it this way what if the slider said "wet" and "dry". Would you turn the control to the "dry" setting ?? What would be the point of having it at all, if you're not going to use at least some of the "wet" setting ?? The bottom line is "Howzit sound ??" ....I think it sounds great !!
