You can get the Softube bundle from Softube's online shop. Dunno if it's still going for $179 or whatever it was. But you get the PC skins for them and they will work in the Pro Channel. I got this bundle when it was on sale here at Cakewalk Store and I haven't regreted once. The Focusing EQ was almost worth the price on its own. That's a killer PC Module and I can't stop using it. I already had the iLok and I'm on a desktop. If I was lap top based only I'd be more reluctant to get it. But when I got it - a small reward to myself for quiting smoking - it was a no brainer. So with the Cake modules and the Softube bundle I feel well catered for in terms of bread and butter plugs. All I really use of 3rd party VSTs these days are for special effects or some high end stuff when needed. Like using the Pro-L from Fabfilter on the mastering bus rather than the Concrete Limiter. It's luxury, I know

I don't have the luxury of buying an unlimited amount of plug-ins so I guess I'll just have to get by with what I've got.

Ya I'm doing fine, I've got the gliss eq, both compressors, the expander/gate, the concrete limiter, the Soft Tube knob and the tube gizmo...all on top of Guitar Rig 5 and the Sonitus effects, Sonar effects.......so I think I have plenty of effects at my disposal now. I don't feel the need to spend an additional $179 dollars at this time.

I really wish they'd sell the Focusing EQ on it's own - you'd love it! With everything else you got you don't need to worry. It's easy to get a good stack of effects with Sonar, and now you have everything they offer

Well I don't have the Leveling Amplifier, which I'm not sure that I'd need it anyway. Nor do I know what it does. I've got enough stuff to make my music sound great now. So I'm pretty much done buying stuff.

John Look in your store account for the serial and reg numbers. Thanks for suggestion, but had already looked in my account and my registration list and nothing there. Like djwayne's gate and compressor, my CL shows up, but no serial or registration code. Like djwayne, I'll have to wait 'til Monday to ring Customer Support (International rates, in my case). Not the end of the world, but would like to have had a chance to play with it this week end, so could maybe use it anger next week. Ho hum. From the OP's comments on here, it looks like it wil be good when I get it working. :-) Thanks, John, for bothering to reply, and thanks to djwayne and some of the others on this thread for making me realise it was time to grab it. Been umming and ahhing for months. I'll report back how I find it in the week.

Well at first I wasn't sure about it either, but the more I dug into it, the better it looked. Comparing it to Voxendo's Elephant limiter at $119, the Concrete Limiter at $49.99 is a bargain. I really got into it by watching the Cakewalk Webinar, watching them use it and bringing the mix right to life !! I want the same tools those guys are using !! They are waaaaay advanced from me, and I learned a lot from them. Their Pro Channel is loaded up with all the goodies, and it makes sense to have it all in the Pro Channel. Now that I have it, I love what it does to my recordings.

Can't wait.. Having watched the webinar, then read your thread, I watched the CL video. It was finally the sound of what it did to the drums that made me reach for my wallet. I've spent a fortune recently upgrading my gear, and was loathed to spend any more and risk a divorce.. But I was working on a track last week with a student and really felt let down by the drums sound in one part. Watched the video and the CL seemed, to my ears, to be just what that track had needed. Especially when I read your reaction to the effect it had on your drum sound. It's the only Cake PC module I don't have. I think you'll like the others when your codes arrive. wish mine would turn up NOW.. :-) I would heartilly recomend the PC2a - it sounds fantastic, and I think I've used it on every track I've done since I bougt it. But I understand the "I've done buying stuff." I had, 'til your thread and the sale came along..... Thanks again for posting.

Well the whole Pro Channel is the sum of a bunch of different parts which all work together nicely to make your music sound better. So in the Webinar video they used both compressors, the eq, and the Concrete Limiter, they also used a little of the Sonitus "reverb" on the guitar part which also seem to work well with the Pro Channel. After all is said and done, it's a pretty nice set up that does wonders for recordings. This all just re-inforces my decision to go with whole Sonar X1 program. It really is great !!

djwayne This all just re-inforces my decision to go with whole Sonar X1 program. It really is great !! +1 to that. I find prochannel and screensets a real boon. While tracking and mixing it seems so much easier to use prochannel than opening VST GUIs etc. And I love the sound and functionality of each module, too. I've used the gate for some really nice effects, and like trying out different compressors to get the right sound. It seems to let me concentrate on making music more. Having said that, I can waste hours just "Tweaking".

I've found that I don't have to waste hours tweaking, I can find a great sound right away with the proper tools. It didn't take me long to tweak up my 12 string to sound like Hotel California, just a couple of minutes... Watching the Cakewalk Webinar I saw how they went about to tweak things and was quite impressed that they could get the sound they wanted right away. At first I thought they were just being very picky, but after a while it all makes sense. After hearing their final mix I was impressed on how good it sounded. When they did the with and without tests, it became very obvious I needed to get the Pro Channel. There's a lot of good knowledge in those webinars...I can't wait for the next one !!

It didn't take me long to tweak up my 12 string to sound like Hotel California, just a couple of minutes... I agree. I can get the sound / effect I want straight away, or I can spend hours fiddling with parameters. I demoed EZMix, etc., and liked the fact that it instantly sounded great, but I had little chance to alter it. With prochannel I can get results quickly, or I can spend hours twiddling with it afterwards, if I feel like it. It was the ease of workthrough I like. I got the sound very quickly, but could spend ages fiddling around if I wanted to. Admittedly, with my cloth ears, I invariably went back to my initial settings, but I learnt a lot on the way...

I took a college course on music production a few years ago, and the teacher was a real fanatic about sound and mixing...he said he would spend a month mixing and re-mixing a song, he wanted to keep going back with fresh ears. I thought he was nuts, but his final mixes were impecable. He used to mix for Pat Metheny. For a final exam, we had to mix a piece of music that we had created. We had two hours to mix it the best we could and a week later the teacher came back with his mixes of our songs, which blew us all away. We all found out why he was the teacher and we weren't !! LOL !!

I'll report back how I find it in the week. Thank you. I am very glad that both you and Djwayne are happy with the CL. I wouldn't have given any positive advice about it if I thought it wasn't a very good addition to X1. My first post on this thread was short and to the point. It is how I look at the CL. It is great for many reasons. I posted a thread on it when I first got it and I was very pleased with than and am just as pleased with it now. I would have linked to it except I can't find it. LOL I am also glad you have the reg numbers now too. Take care both of you and have fun! I do want to know your findings on it JB so let me know what you think.

Well now that I have the expander/gate and compressor...my Pro Channel is complete. I just tried coupling it with Guitar Rig 5 on an electric guitar recording of a mellow "Crossroads".....I had to try a few presets but found a jazz one that sounded fantstic with Pro Channel...this is a mixer's dream, I've got so many options, I can't help but find something that works...I'm getting some fantastic results with my A/B tests !! This ain't about volume, this is about tone.

Trying not to be a smart arse, but its "Pat Metheny",I saw him live with "Lyle Mays"about 15 years ago,an utterly amazing concert! I find the CL,and the Boost11,really brash, and don't use either much, and I'm still looking for something that will magically, make my mix as loud as a modern CD,without obvious pump,or muffled squash,I think it's called being a good "sound engineer",and wow,is it a LOT harder, than I would ever have believed. I always used to blame my gear[cassette 4 track-Tascam 244-home stereo],and when I got to record,in some studios with an SSL desk,Studer 24 track tape machine,I always thought, they messed up my guitar sound, but now a similar[?] quality is available through software/computer,and I realise now,how incredibly precise every decision must be,as it affects everything else.........to the maximum! I don't mind the Nomad Factory Blue Tube Limiter, but I just bought the waves tapes/tubes bundle, and Guitar Rig 5 Pro[which for "distortion" is not a million times better than"Player"by the way] ,so it's "No to spending" for a little while. It's funny, I haven't heard any demo's of the PC2A anywhere on the Cakewalk site or in the webinars. I'd have to hear it action BEFORE I'd even consider it. Even then I'd be inclined to wait for a sale.
