Direct question to Cakewalk re Playlist

To Cakewalk....are you ever going to address the concerns of those of us who use/want to use the Playlist tool?

EG this thread http://forum.cakewalk.com/Playlist-still-broken-m2923421.aspx and others that I am sure you are aware of.

If so, when could such work be anticipated?

Thanks

PS: Even if the answer is in the negative, please still answer as at least that way users will know for sure and can then explore other possibilities and stop trying to "make a silk purse out of a sows ear"

It's on my buglist, you are able to contact their support:

I doubt anything will happen until X3E and that hasn't been fully confirmed yet.

Thing is Alex they have had three updates now (sorry 4-including original release) and still nothing. Now that to me, seems a pretty clear indication that they think the Playlist is fine as is and really want nothing more to do with it. I mean, after all, your issues (among others) would not be all that tough to sort - not when you consider the depth of code repair needed for a lot of the other repairs that have been made.

Let Cakewalk come out and give us an unequivocal answer either way as per the OP - I daresay nothing will be forthcoming for the reason above. I am sure if one of the guys in CW HQ were using/wanted to use Playlist in a serious 'live gig" way, it would be sorted PDQ! Of course if I am wrong, then by all means I welcome CW to refute all that I/we are saying and asking for.

Have you seen my buglist? Join the queue, I'm sure it will be resolved eventually. There are some bugs in there which will be older than that. BTW the reason why I created the buglist was to make issues like yours more visible. Since X3 has been released Cake has been very proactive at fixing bugs, bugfixing takes time esp when you have a backlog (issues weren't dealt with as efficiently before X3 release, or maybe the invisible bugs were fixed first).

    Cheers...

First, there have been other updates to the playlist in the past. Second, I believe you are drawing the wrong conclusion: I think it's a pretty clear indication they prioritized other bugs in the queue.

I realize some particular issues are of particular importance to some people, but the decision of what to fix for a particular rev and what to postpone depends on a whole lot of factors.

The first 3 books in "The Musician's Guide to Home Recording" series are available from Hal Leonard and http://www.reverb.com. Listen to my music on http://www.YouTube.com/thecraiganderton, and visit http://www.craiganderton.com. Thanks!

Yep - totally agree with both of the above (although @ Craig "in the past" encompasses a WIDE time range ) - where did I say any different? All I (and I daresay others too, who just don't post) am after is some form of definitive reply from CW as to the future of the PL and if they can see any improvement warranted (and Alex does have a list available)..that is all...not bagging CW per se, they do a great job on pretty much everything!

    Joden -

First, this is a user forum and it is not an appropriate place to post open challenges to the Cakewalk development staff.  This is not a place where you can expect to make a direct communication with these folks.

Second, My experience is that the bakers do take action on properly formulated problem reports.  They do have to prioritize them and one of the considerations that they have to make is how many people are affected by a problem.  Frankly, I can think of a dozen or more items that I would like them to address before wasting time on Play List functionality.  I would be surprised if there are more than a dozen users who even know about it.

Try making a case for how usable the feature is (when working as you expect it to).  Explain how you think it should work (backed up by their documentation where possible).  This does appear to be something that would be cool for sequencing a live show (lights, backing synths, etc) but you will probably need to convince Noel that he isn't spending his programming resources to fix a feature that only you (and possibly three other people) are going to use.

The bakers have fixed problems that I have reported (nearly a dozen), so I know that the process can work.  You just need to find a way to get engaged in the solution instead of whining about something that nobody else cares about.

Many many years ago, they dropped the playlist feature from Cakewalk Pro Audio. There was a huge outcry of upset people. After that they put it back in. I'm sure they want to keep it and have it function properly. Have faith everyone. I believe it will be fixed soon.
They've put together an amazing DAW with X3 and they want it to be as perfect as possible.
In the meantime . . . I'll be using X2 for live use.
