Well I'll join the chorus in singing a large thank you Craig for all your effort. As everyone here has stated it's been an enjoyable part of the monthly update. I, like others have kept the ezines in a library for reference. I'm sure that whatever new information pathway the bakers take will serve us well. Thanks not only to Craig, but to all the bakers involved.

Ohhh... :-( The e-Zine was my monthly highlight. Very helpful and interesting information in one document. Especially the case studies are very helpful to see the business a bit more holistically. As I wrote before somewhere in the forum i noticed that I got no more newsletter-eMails (including the advertisement for the e-zine) since I bought my SPLAT lifetime updates. Could this be a reason for the reduced coverage, too? However, an alternative e-mailaddress of mine gets these newsletters - strangely enough... Best regards to the best bakers in the world Keep on going!

+1 bluesplayer CW/LANCE, PLEASE, no multi-media, noisy, distracting, over hyped videos that I have to sit and watch for 15-30 minutes to get 10 seconds of FACTS.
+1000 also, it seems odd to stop the ezine before deciding what will replace it? let's hope it doesn't take too long...

Tom B The eZine PDF format was convenient for printing and later reading. I hope Cakewalk will provide something similar soon.
Actually Cakewalk didn't like the PDF format because they felt something like a Word doc would be more searchable and give better SEO. Of course Google can find things in a PDF; for example you can search on "Anatomy of a SONAR Project" and all the eZines that had that feature appear, however serach won't take you to the article itself within a PDF. (OTOH I felt that was an advantage because it would make people aware of the eZine .) I also felt the PDF format was more convenient for users because you could, for example, load it in an iPad along with your other manuals and documentation or print it out (I keep all my manuals in an old iPad, it makes a great "library"). But another reason for discontinuing the eZine was because when I started doing it, I was providing a lot of content for the updates like FX Chains (VoxTools, Monitorizer, Sizzle Bus, etc.), amp sims and pedalboards, loops, etc. Instructions for how to use them was not included in the release notes, so the only way to describe applications was through the eZine. However Cakewalk feels that users weren't that interested in the content I did, so as you may have noticed there hasn't been any new content in over a year - but to Cakewalk's point, I don't think they've received any "Hey what happened to the content" emails. This meant that a main reason for starting the eZine was no longer relevant. (I do hope to do something like set up Dropbox to make the content Cakewalk never used available, I have a lot of stuff sitting on the shelf and I think at least some people would find it useful.) Meanwhile there are the release notes to cover the various new features each month...when you open SONAR, just go Help > What's New and you'll be up to speed on the new features.

I don't use Word. I like Wordperfect. It bothers me that a somewhat "rebel" company is moving toward a more reserved and cautious corporate entity. The eZine brought us Sonar users a look into the ins and outs of the release we just installed. The good will it fostered in knowing it was given to us free and always updated meant a lot that can not be easily charted to us end users. No one else did this and it had power way beyond the number of pages included. To dismiss it so easily is letting corporate thinking invade a creative endeavor. It speaks poorly of CW to let it go. This to me is not that much different from learning one of our long time members has past away. It feels like a death in the family.

I miss the content you provided, Craig. I didn't email because I didn't think there would be any point. I know yu are busy, and it has been mentioned on here that you had several things that Cakewalk weren't interested in. It is both Cakewalk's and our loss. I think you will find many people on here use your FX Chains and Amp Sims. There is a thread at the moment here someone had forgotten where a vocal plugin was, and it was one of yours. Cakewalk will do what Cakewalk will do, and obviously I do not see the whole picture, as they do, but I do not understand their attitude over these things. Thanks for all the work you do. I hope we see some more of your "stuff" soon, whether via Cakewalk or not. And on a more trivial note, why do people keep calling you " Graig"? Is there even such a name? Ho hum..

I found the EZine to be a very useful resource because 1) it often had more information than the posted release notes and 2) it was a good learning resource beyond the details of just what was in the release. At the very least, the release notes really should be expanded considerably to make up for taking away the EZine. Sonar executives should consider that providing a reliable and consistent learning resource (like the EZine) can provide a marketing advantage compared to the competition. Those moments of "I didn't know we could do that in Sonar" make Sonar appear more desirable than ever (even when there might be ways to do the same or similar in other DAWS). Also makes it mover desirable to potential customers (but only they have a chance to find out). Having a highly functioning "ecosystem" is something users value even if they haven't been loudly squawking about reduced EZine content over the past year.

Many thanks for Craig for his excellent job! To be honest I completely don't understand Cakewalk decision. Really users was not interested? Which one? Could any of them say a word to confirm they really exist? PDF was very convenient especially during travels just after updates time... I guess everybody has kind of PDF viewer on his device but really evrybody has Word reading thing? YT videos would be great additions for some content but they don't replace PDF doc as small, easy to read in any conditions helper...

Yes, that may be a contributing factor as to why Cakewalk feels "not enough users are accessing it in its current form." But Cakewalk also didn't like the PDF format. And to be clear, this was a mutual decision. It wasn't Cakewalk saying "stop doing the eZine." We just had different ideas as to its value, format, and future. However it is gratifying that many people found value in it, and the PDF to be convenient.

Thanks, Craig! I have them all in my eBook archive I have found the EZine publications very useful, especially since jumping aboard Platinum at 2016.07. Lot's of catching up to do, so I needed more info than what appears in the release notes, or the Cakewalk What's New page. If I was Cakewalk's web designer, and had to find a substitute medium for the info, I would migrate the bonus content to HTML and link to it from the What's New page. Instead of a link to the Knowledge Base like they just did with 2017.01, instead of the EZine. The Knowledge Base seems to be limited to a feature and menu walk-through. It's rather terse and uninspiring. Just enough to let you know a feature is there, and how to access the menu options. But nothing about what the feature is really all about, or how to actually apply it.

I was always kind of surprised the e-zine, such a valuable content, was not under "Support" next to "FAQ". On top of everything else it was also a good example for the people who visited site for the first time how alive Sonar is, growing on a monthly basis. I have just realized how natural eZine was for me. From the first eZine, it become almost automatic to wait for the next one: "New eZine, I can read whats new this time...". It was always written in serious and convenient to read style. With deep explanation of all features. Thanks for that, Craig! Kidding adverts, quite strange looking videos, bakery, possible word format for new updates... eZine definitively was better for me. At least they have made some improvements in 2017.1 which I need and like. So I am not completely pessimistic at the moment
